For future birthdays, that's what I'll do. But this was her first. And she was born in the middle of a pandemic. She'd never even seen a toy aisle before. We have another 17 years to set up her college fund. :)
My friend's pandemic baby saw a shopping cart for the first time back when she was 10.5 months and cried because she was terrified. 2020 was a strange year for babies to be born in!

Looks like Boone and Gracie had a visitor last night. Black and white cat loves to come and torment Gracie by jumping at the sliding glass door downstairs.

*there is currently mud there because we are reterracing the walkway and had torrential rain on Friday so the dirt collapsed a little right outside the door.

Went to lift up a section of the sectional couch downstairs in search of Gracie's hidden stash of springs. Didn't get the end up high enough before I started walking towards it to snag some springs and bonked my nose on the wood part of the couch. My first instinct was to drop the couch and check to see if my nose was bleeding but I couldn't because I didn't know if Boone and Gracie had gone underneath. Managed to slowly put the couch down and check my nose. Yep... bloody nose. :ohwell:

Boone and Gracie thank you for rescuing their springs.

Did some light cleaning of the house and a load of laundry. Started watching some cleaning and decluttering videos on YouTube and would get motivated to do more cleaning like sweeping the cat hair and litter off the basement steps and scrubbing out the silverware trays. Decluttered some unused stuff that was just taking up space too. Just waiting for youngest to roll out of bed before I can do a first floor vacuuming.

You’re a nice mom waiting for him to get up. My stepdad used to blow a whistle on some Saturday mornings to get us up to clean. If DH ever wonders why I don’t wake nicely; this is definitely one reason! Fortunately that wasn’t a weekly occurrence. Eventually they got the idea that we were just dealing with natural teenage sleep cycles and could still clean at 11 am just the same as 8 am. And probably do a better job. :rolleyes2:

:lol:frying pans still trying to decide if i want trying out a stainless or non stick again or a good old cast iron pan:lol: have to make a list of pros vs cons i guess
I never cared for stainless, a good cast iron pan is pretty versatile but heavy to use and requires proper method of washing and seasoning, so I say non stick is the way to go for regular frequent use.

Willow, my not that smart girl, has learned a phrase! Today was the third time I tried it after she seemed to understand what I was saying and I stayed sitting in my usual place to make sure my body language or movement wasn’t giving it away. When I warn her “it’s going to be scary”, she now shoots down to the basement. I use it and have used it for a long time when I am ready to vacuum but she has finally figured out what it means.

I like owning a cast iron pan for some recipes, especially ones where they want it to finish up under the broiler in the oven, but non stick is the general go to for me as well, and cast iron is more of a special occasion pan.

Oh, I was definitely getting to the point where I was going to vacuum whether he was up or not. It was after 1pm and he wasn't up yet.

As it turned out, my sweet Boone was a causality of my vacuuming today. He got himself trapped in my bedroom and was too scared to dart out. I happen to look at my bed and it's all disheveled and there is a lump under the comforter. I turn off the vacuum and put my hand on the lump and there was something under there. Pulled back the comforter and it was Boone. He had crawled up under there to hide until I stopped vacuuming. Both he and Gracie are scared of the vacuum.

I told him to go and he darted downstairs to hide under my husband's bed. After I was done, I went down there to tell Boone I was sorry and gave him lots of love.

Ugh. We have rules for the kids' power wheel. Only 1 driver and 1 passenger at a time. No kids riding on the hood or the back or the sides. Period.
Neighbor 1 has 5 kids, neighbor 2 has 3. Aislyn and Aedan have been told that they're allowed to say, "no, we're playing with it right now." But they're too nice. So the other kids railroad them.
I was trying to enforce the rules of the car and get the kids to take turns. But most of them aren't my kids. Neighbor 1 is 8 months pregnant and "doesn't want to fight with. the kids today." Neighbor 2 is having issues with her baby daddy or whatever he is and she's "too depressed to deal with it."
Which leaves me to supervise a dozen kids who aren't wanting to listen to me.
We parked the car in the back and brought the battery in and later I'm gonna sneak the kids out and let them drive around back where they hopefully won't be spotted.

I have an entire set of ceramic, non-stick pans that I swear by. I also have a cast-iron frying pan and a cast-iron Dutch oven which are invaluable for cornbreads, and stews. LORD, stew tastes so much better cooked in cast-iron!

if you haven’t tried baking a pizza in a cast iron skillet, you need to try it for a crisp crust.
