A clean house is a happy house and a relaxing house! Around here it’s an ongoing chore! Lol I chose a closet yesterday because no cats allowed! Lol It will stay clean unless I mess it up mysel and frankly, who has the time? I mostly just dusted, reorganized and tossed some things. It is nice to still have a place that stays just like I left it. Although once in awhile a catnip mouse manages to find refuge there.

rubysmama rubysmama and Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Love the pictures! So cute!

Lari Lari BJ was very pleased that you would buy from him. He was a little shy about modeling at first.

N NY cat man Fresh pain on the wood? Woo hoo should be Wood Hoo!! Fresh paint makes everything feel new.
The vet chose the purrfect picture. So is Miss Eleanor doing some modeling now too? Very cute.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 and surya surya It seems we all have a desire for a fresh new year!

dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 OMG those are precious pictures! Thank you for posting those. It looks like you had , either very capable help or a cativated audience! Very glad the tape didn’t end up on anyones’ paw! That would have happened here! Or maybe a nose? Lol

Furballsmom Furballsmom Happy New Year to you ,Poppy and family.

I was glad I finished the closet before the fireworks started! My neighbor decided to fire them off between our houses!!The kitties here were all running. I know it reminded them of their time outside. I spent the night comforting kitties. It did have a happy ending though. I will be asking the neighbor to go to the opposite end of their property next time. It is illegal here to be using them but it isn’t enforced since so many people ignore the law. The officers could not possible arrest everyone who sets off fireworks. I love seeing fireworks displays but I don’t think they have a place near homes. Today was flea meds day here! Lol It took much longer than usual since the kitties are still nervous. I still have three to go. Even Banjo and Whistle were hiding out when they realized what I was doing.

This is our night last night.

Poor Flowers was the first to run to Mom!

Then Thrasher.
Mom, please tell me that’s thunder!
48331917-8F89-4A5A-A31A-40AA52FE19C1.jpeg

It’s not thunder! Why don’t you make it stop? Go outside and chase it away!

The kitties were moving so fast, they were fluff blurs. This is Smokey!

Mitsy kept holding her paw up to me! Awww!
07E3996D-B7FB-49BD-8B82-752DD7977B46.jpeg

Banjo got fluff tail!

This shows that even cats that don’t normally snuggle will join together to comfort each other. Flowers and Smokey snuggled each other.

Whistle ran straight to Daddy , BJ.

He even dropped his mouse!

The kitties didn’t know which way to run as fireworks surrounded the house.

Whistle doesn’t have a lot of fluff but his tail was as big as his eyes!

Not one kitty wanted to go into their beloved cat room.

At first I just sat on the floor to offer comfort.

I put out extra food but only one taker and that didn’t last.

Whistle finally climbed Mom for safety.

During a break in the noise , Thrasher, Kodiak and BJ went to their room but as things started back up BJ and Thrasher came back inside the living room.

BJ finally grabbed my finger and threatened to eat me if I didn’t take action!!

It’s okay BJ! Mom has an idea!
F7237562-E54F-4A41-AF8B-81222ED375EF.jpeg

Heh! It’s amazing what a warm blanket and a Mom layingbon the floor will do to calm the kitties. I guess if Mom thinks it’s safe, kitties do too.
9B93977C-66D3-4928-9152-A4E7E18A4D94.jpeg

Putting toys under the blanket helped! Lol

There were still some who weren’t convinced though.

The rattle of a bag of treats can work wonders! Notice on the upper right the Flying Bonjure! Treats up there!
AB1D4DDB-177A-4DA2-B2A4-551C05730568.jpeg

Things were calm except for the scramble to get the treats. Lol

I’m glad you finally understood me Mom!
See how calm everyone is now?
ADCCBEA6-009F-428D-B291-DAECA9F68622.jpeg

Next time don’t wait so long to get the treats!
D8B40705-E192-40AA-B3DD-EC728A3185F3.jpeg

:flail:Good boy BJ! He really did try to tell me to get out the treats! The next time he tries to nibble a ginger, I’ll go straight for the treats!
Peace is restored! That makes it a very happy New Year!

Have a great and peaceful night everyone!:heartshape:

Happy new year!! I'm so sorry about the rough night. I hate to be such a party pooper, but I really resent fireworks after 10:00 pm. So inconsiderate. I get that it's New Year's Eve and many stay up til midnight, but many don't. It's so hard on the animals; all the pet lost and found organizations are always overwhelmed the day after, posting pics of pets who got spooked and are missing. Don't get me started on the owners who leave their pets outside on a fireworks night. I'll stop moaning now. Glad that the treats made such a difference for the poor kitties. I woke up around 2:00 this morning to find Charlie missing from bed and nowhere to be found; I was in bed by 10 pm and I sleep with ear plugs, so I had completely slept through the fireworks. He didn't come out from hiding til around 4 am, poor little dude.

Anyway, we survived another holiday season! I always emerge from the holidays feeling somewhat victorious. ;)
Welcome to 2020, everyone! New decades are always exciting and full of promise, aren't they?

That's the only good thing about the freezing cold weather here. It's too cold for the neighbors to want to be outside shooting off fireworks on New Years. They sure make up for it around July 4th though! They do it for like 2 weeks then. :argh:

I agree, after 10pm there should only be silence, so I can get my beauty sleep. 👍

Our neighborhood starts the week before the 4th. Thank goodness New Years there were only a couple of random small ones during the evening with a deluge of really big ones at Midnite and none after that. On the 4th sometimes there are random ones until 2am.

BJ is such an excellent head mancat! He is so protective of his family. The blanket, with treats, toys and Mom, is a very good idea, too. I agree with everyone about the seasonal noisemakers. Sure, a lot of people like to party at different times, but consideration for others should come before selfishness. It doesn't here, and it doesn't in most places now, I guess. I'm unfortunately allergic to latex, which most earplugs are made of, so I can't wear them. Noise cancellers ditto as I sleep (or try to!) on my side. Oh well!

You would think that outlawing the fireworks would indicate that the law would be enforced. Random ticketing might be a deterrent if it were done at all! People just drive across the state line where fireworks booths are set up along miles of road to catch the out of state purchases. Around here the noise starts at dark and continues for hours. I still hear some today. There are lots of big displays set up across the state and most are free. It only takes a short drive to find a legal place to enjoy a show. Fireworks can be extremely expensive but there seems to be something attractive about shooting them off?!?!? They don’t allow guns to be shot off in a residential area but you can explode things.:soapbox: I did come up with an idea though!! I wonder if I could gather those who enjoy them here and convince them to have their own display in the empty lot at the end of this neighborhood? It would save money and they could buy the really expensive, pretty ones with pooled resources. It would put the noise further from houses too! I think it’s worth a try! Wish me luck!

2018 4th of July we had idiots setting off large fireworks in the middle of the side street close to our apt. No police showed up . Luckily no car turned into the street. It went on for 4 hours. This is a residential neighborhood with tall houses and lots of tall trees, most of the trees are over a hundred yrs old.

I have seen Froggie! He is doing very well in the House I constructed for him and his family. He looks plump! Lol He ventured out on the warmer days to eat. I’ve put a dish of leftover cat food under the house so that the frogs can partake of that or any bugs that come to investigate. In the meantime, Banjo is really missing him. She goes to the door each night and waits for him. I feel so bad for her. Some nights she calls to him. She’s so faithful in her watch for him. Today I ran across something that made me smile and think of Banjo so I got it and brought it home. Here’s how it went. This is a long series of photos but it was worth every minute to me while I was watching. The end of the session was unexpected but very appropriate! I laughed!

Banjo, are you calling Froggie?

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I don’t know what they are made of but have you tried the ear plugs made for shooting guns? Maybe they are not latex. If all else fails I would make some foam pads myself but I doubt anything will cut out all the noise. Cork is the best thing I have found to soundproof. It is sold in small flat squares so you might be able to use that in some way. When the woods were occupied late at night by hoodlums partying and playing music it cost me sleep for many months. That’s miserable! I finally put cork up at the windows and that helped.
Crawling under the blanket was good for me too! Good BJ! He really is our protector. The Watch cat!

dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 I have aniciet large tress here too. During drought we’ve had fires started by fireworks. I’ve even found spent rockets on my roof and scorched places in my yard where the spent fireworks landed. I end up staying up on the New year and the Fourth of July to guard the property. It’s not fun. I sympathize completely!

Banjo has asked the new frog to chose a name. The rubber frog is.....

I did come up with an idea though!! I wonder if I could gather those who enjoy them here and convince them to have their own display in the empty lot at the end of this neighborhood? :goodluck:

I either slept through it, or no one shot off fireworks around me New Year's Eve. Likely the rain put a damper on any displays. Last summer on Canada Day, however, my next door neighbour shot them off at some point during the night. I was in bed, and the window was open, so it was LOUD. Nearly scared me out of my skin, and Ruby out of her fur. 😨

I love, love, love that picture. :hearthrob::hearthrob::hearthrob:

Banjo is so adorable with her new little friend Rubbit! :redheartpump::loveeyes:

TYSM for the info on cork. I'd be kind of leery of that for earplugs, as it might flake off and get into the inner ear, causing major problems. My sinuses are wonky anyway, and after having a pretty bad sinus infection last summer, I think I'll just have to tough it out. I have a pair of the gun ones -- they're orange and shaped -- but they don't seem to be any better than the other types in terms of irritating my ears.
I tend to cut people some slack on NYE and ID, because it's pretty much understood that that's what you do on those evenings, whether I like it or not. Fortunately, fireworks are banned in this city except for the pro displays, which are much more exciting anyway, and most people seem to take advantage of those; but we're very close to the Los Angeles border, and they're allowed there, so we get noise from those. Also, Southern Cali is close enough to Mexico that a lot of people go there, get the big, very dangerous firecrackers, and come back here and let them off. Where we lived two locations ago, South El Monte, which was mostly Latino/x-Hispanic in population, it would look and smell like a war zone at those times, especially July 4th. My ex was a private pilot and we used to rent a plane and fly around looking at all the smoke and stuff. It was pretty surreal. He liked the fireworks, so he'd buy a bunch of the permitted ones and we'd let them off in our large driveway behind our fenced/gated perimeter, making absolutely sure all cats, possums and others were well out of the way. Since everyone else was doing it, it didn't bother anyone human that I know of, and it sort of de-stressed me to be having our own little display, though I never would have bought them myself. When we moved to the Mojave where they were understandably VERY illegal, the guy across the road let a bunch off. I called on it, as I was concerned to be living in THE DESERT with this going on. Turns out the guy was a bailiff! and didn't like being called on his actions. I didn't care. It's illegal! for such good reasons!

There are foam earplugs that you can buy that, I believe, are latex-free. We used to get them in boxes of 100 pairs for use at work. They are the kind that you roll up and then put them in your ears where they expand to provide a seal against sounds.

I have two types of those, one of which is orange and shaped, and used for firing ranges; the other is beige/light brown and cylindrical. Both are not good. I've also had yellow, cylindrical ones. IDK if they're latex or not. All I know is that they bother me. Thanks, though!
