Yikes. My cats got me on the palm of my hand before and it took 2 weeks to heal. I couldn't use my hand for much. Now I always keep the palm of my hands away from them. The scratches on top of the hands heal much more quickly.
Thanks guys! Everything is canceled for today, He is still in the hospital
they are going in surgically to clean out his thumb joint.
I hope for grace from everybody I have to postpone appts for
Fumigation and the Vets, Thanks for all your concerns for my husband!
Oh wow. So glad you guys didn't hesitate getting it checked out. I think cat bites and scratches get infected more than people realize.
My Ruby accidentally scratched my finger this morning while we were playing, and I immediately squeezed out as much blood as I could, then put on antibiotic ointment and baidaids. It looks ok, so I think it'll be fine, but I also know to keep an eye on it.
Hope the surgery isn't too invasive, and that he has use of his hand again soon. Let your husband know we're thinking of him.
I had to postpone the fumigation/Vetrinary appt, as I couldn't capture
Walli by myself, and couldn't get anyone else in the middle of the night.
Everyone involved was very gracious and didn't charge me extra.
There was a lot involved in canceling, Fumigation, Vet, Gas, Mail.
I still haven't got my mail redelivering, but minor issue.
Joey bit him in the joint of his thumb, that's why it's so bad, Cats teeth have a lot
of bacteria, and getting bit in the joint caused problems.
He is still in the hospital, hopefully gets out today, if not tomorrow.
So if you ever get bit by a cat, wash wash wash! antibiotic ointment etc...
rubysmama you did the right thing squeezing the blood and washing.
The bites are more serious than the scratches, The hospital said this is quite
common of a thing.
Will prolly continue with the Fumigation/Vet next week.
Co worker had a good idea, get an empty box and put it over the cat
slide something under it and put her in the crate that way.
I'm going to cut a hole in the side I can open and release her into the crate.
I think this might work with the least amount of freakout.
I'm surprised too that Joey was the one that bit him! He's the friendly one. My cats don't bite me, they just knife me with their claws, so it didn't get infected. I had to tape up my hand once. But now I know how to avoid getting hurt. I try to only pick them up when they are sleepy and I face their claws away from me and don't let them turn towards me.
It wasn't Joeys fault, Joey escaped and went running up to Walli and it freaked her out and I think walli started the fight, my husband didn't know you don't break up a cat fight with your hands. So we get to start over next monday!
yay! [sigh]
Walli is at the Vet!!!!
Plan A did not work but Plan B with much freakout worked.
I have been going over and over this in my head, and it didn't go anything like it!!
We are all set for fumigation, Joey is at my dad's and Walli will be picked up
in a few hours. This has been the most stressful thing ever!!
We get back home on Wednesday and the Catio is set for Walli to finally go outside, I know Walli is going to take backwards steps and may take us a few months for her to trust us again, I don't think she will ever go in her cardboard box again, bummer. We are planning to socialize Walli and Joey outside, Walli in her catio and Joey on a line.
whew!! still shaking
