Boy, the squirrels have good eats at your house. Mine only get peanuts and sunflower seeds.
The squirrels need food to get through the winter. Usually I go a park in August and scoop up buckets of acorns but didn’t make it this year. So hazelnuts are my substitute although they are getting far fewer than the acorns.

We love our squirrels too,and this year our walnut trees did not produce. What we've done this year and last year too is go to the feed store and get 50 lb. bags of cracked corn. They usually run around $5 or so each, and hubby has 2 old skillets of mine...one goes out in the garden and the other down by the workshop and we are feeding the corn. All kinds of birds are enjoying it,a few rabbits and the squirrels are eating it as well.

The plastic jugs that some kitty litter comes in makes perfect storage containers for corn and sunflower seeds.

I used to do that but then I read that squirrels only eat the acorns they pick from the trees. I have very little acorns this year on my trees. I also give them corn when I can get somebody to carry the bags for me.

I don’t know about that but they sure scooped up the ones I put out. I gather them, soak them in water, pick out the ones that float as those are supposed to be bad and then let them dry until I am ready to throw them out for the squirrels.

...with the cats...
I miss the wood stove I had up in Show Low, that thing cranked out the heat... it was a large stove, so if I put too much wood in it the house temp would reach 90 degrees. I used to wear flip-flops, shorts and a tank top in my home during the dead of winter, the stove made it feel like Tahiti, LOL. One evening, when I was first getting the hang of using a wood stove, I put too much wood in before going to bed... my room was right around the corner, I was using a view room with banks of picture windows as a bedroom so I could see the forest, right? There was snow on the ground outside, and I was lying there atop my sheets just a-SWEATIN' in the heat.

Eventually, unable to sleep, I had to go get a large fan from a back room and set it up so I could cool off... I remember looking out at all that snow, the temp out there around 20 degrees, and there I was setting up a fan to cool off because my home was too goldurned hot. I distinctly remember telling myself, "THIS IS STUPID"---wasting electricity to run a fan because my wood stove kicked out too much heat, LOL. Later, I learned how to operate the stove more efficiently, and I learned NOT to put too much wood in before bedtime. Meh, live and learn, I still miss that wood stove, it kicked out the most wonderful radiant heat when ya loaded it just right. :yess:

my wood stove cranks out the heat too! and i'm currently sitting here in shorts and a short sleeved shirt with the wood stove keeping it comfy, while outside it's forecast to get down to low 30's F tonight.

that's my 'positive'......feeling warm and comfy!

Over the weekend I washed all my bedding. I didn't want to wait for Sherry to wash the quilt at the launderette so I washed that
as well. Well, now it has a rip in it from being washed in machine with an agitator. No worries, I covered it up with a pretty throw.
Doing that exhausted me but I waned it done. Nicole brought me chili, a new recipe I think because it had carrots and corn and
it was amazing. She put it in a 24 ounce container and I scarfed it down. oink, oink, ha! She also gave me a loaf of sweet bread
that I didn't try yet.

It's cold this morning and Cal is sleeping in a laundry basket on top of dirty clothes snoring and cooing away.

Same here! With the wood furnace going, I can only use a sheet, blankets are too warm. And I'm wearing short sleeved shirts.

Oh, I know what you mean. I can't wait until I can afford a washing machine without an agitator.

My positive for today is that I got some bananas and I'm going to try eating fruit every single day this week. I'll see if it improves my health any. It can't hurt.

Me Too. I am sitting here with shorts on and a short sleeve shirt with the heat on. I wear shorts and short sleeves all year long.
I am trying to eat more fruits, too. Right now I am eating white grapes. For later I have a cherry pie.

I like agiators but the quilt should've been washed in a commercial no ag washer. It's a queen
sized quilt and very think.

I've been having some positives lately, but I've been getting weighed down by the negative. Let's see if I can come up with some of the positives.

We've been painting the outside of our house in spurts for the past 6 or seven years. The whole front of the house is the same color now.

I've been wanting to make some changes to my will. I finally contacted a lawyer and we are going to sign it next week.

I got almost everything in the flower gardens set for winter.

I found a 22lb frozen turkey yesterday and bought it for Thanksgiving.

Abby ate well yesterday with no vomiting or diarrhea overnight.

My husband sold some stock for a profit.

Go Abby!!!, and profit is always good (just be sure you don't get nicked on capital gains taxes. We did one year, ugh :( ).

Poppycat weighs over 14 pounds!!!!! He has been eating well for the past weeks after being seriously sick in May, but this means his system is functioning more normally again and he's actually absorbing nutrients, thank heavens! He hasn't had to have subq fluids for going on a month, so hopefully this all means we're finally there and that his system is back. I'm almost afraid to type this, geez what a long haul this was. (Yeah, I'm weepy about it.... )

I love fruit! My fiancé barely eats it and I'm like "how?"
I'm the same way. I find fruit a little boring unless it's on pizza or salad!

For later I have a cherry pie.
Does pie count as fruit? If so, I could go for a slice of apple pie with crumb topping.

but I've been getting weighed down by the negative
Same here, but I try to find at least one positive. It's hard sometimes...

I didn't know Poppy Cat was sick. So glad he's feeling better!

My positive for today is I'm going shopping in town tomorrow. It will be fun to look around the stores. We are also going out to lunch at a diner I have never been to. I will probably get a veggie omelet.
