I tried the Beyond burger and that tasted nothing like meat but we'll see.
I haven't had meat in over 10 years, so maybe I've forgotten what it's like, but I thought the Beyond burger was pretty meat-like. Course maybe it's because it's cooked on the same grill as meat. :(

BK is bringing the Impossible burger to the lineup of Whoppers on the menu.
Cool. I like their current veggie burger, but I'll probably try the impossible burger if they bring it to the Canadian restaurants.

nd dessert will be a cherry carob brownie
So, about all those yummy sounding desserts you mention, do you make them? Or are they store bought?

It's fine to be upfront on a webpage but shouldn't there be something on their drive thru menu that tells people that? It seems a little disrespectful.
I agree totally. Haven't been through their drive thru, so don't know it it's mentioned or not. But if it is, I suspect it would be easy to overlook.

I haven't had a veggie burger in a long, long time. I'm sure they're better now than they were in the 70's, it was like eating a rubber frisbee
Some are better than others, but I always have to take a second look, just to ensure it's the veggie burger, as they look pretty real to me.

A vegetarian at the last job claimed that boxed brownie mixes contain beef fat. I didn't believe it and went through all the boxed mixes at the supermarket. None contained beef fat or any sort of meat product. No idea why that person made that claim :dunno:
Maybe lard?

McDonalds has beef flavoring in their French fries and they didn't tell vegetarians for years.
Isn't it beef tallow?
Yes, beef tallow. And Google tells me McDonalds Canada stopped using it in 2007. Not sure about the US restaurants though.

rubysmama rubysmama -- i bake my own desserts, from scratch. well, i do buy vanilla and sometimes lemon sandwich cookies from the store or the local auction. but my desserts with dinner are always something i've baked. :D

store bought desserts aren't as good (imo), and cost quite a bit. plus, i love baking and really enjoy trying new recipes.

I think that it would taste meat like to anyone who hasn't had meat in a long time but I don't think anyone who has would be fooled by it. When I eat veggie burgers, I prefer the ones that are what they are- and are not trying to be fake meat. I really like the Morningstar Farms spicy black bean veggie patties. I almost had to bribe DD to try them and she ended up really liking them a lot. That says a lot. She has to be one of the pickiest eaters I've ever met in my life. I always joke that Lilith and Sophie get their pickiness from her. They were great eaters UNTIL she came home from school on spring break. When she left, they were just as picky as she is. Lilith might be a little worse. I know that the three of them held secret meetings while I wasn't home and she taught them her ways.

We ended up having grilled skirt steak and mixed veggies for dinner last night. Tonight will be grilled chicken with salad or veggies of some kind.

Me? Well, um...um...I have 5 pounds of ground beef thawed, and am going to make up a big batch of my "meat loaf muffins." I may, however, have hot dogs with cheese and onions while they cook...MOST of them are freezer-bound, anyway.
I LIED! Like a RUG! While I did, indeed, make the meatloaf muffins (which are safely tucked in the freezer now), I did NOT eat a hot dog of any sort. Just as I was getting ready to make them, my next-door neighbor showed up with a bowl of teriyaki beef and broccoli with rice for me! GOD I LOVE MY NEIGHBORS! Between Jazzie and Danielle, they tend to feed me 3 nights out of 7. LAST night was hot dogs with cheese and onions, however, and may be again tonight. I'm also thinking about making a chocolate cherry fudge cake. I wanted to make a walnut cake with maple glaze, but I forgot to get club soda. It'll wait.

I came back from my trip to Costco with a rotisserie chicken which I cut up accompanied by a trio of singers at my feet: an alto, a soprano, and a squeak. We’ll have (two of us will have) chicken, lentils, and green beans with these cheese twists that just came out of the oven.

The girls will have chicken, too, but it’s raw and full of delicious vitamins. :)

Speaking of veggie burgers, while we were at Trader Joe's the other day DH tried a sample of their new Quinoa black beans & roasted corn burger. He is a meat and potato guy but liked this burger so much that he actually bought it.

I had a simple dinner again, a giant garnet yam and broccoli. Grapes, clementine and honey crisp apple for dessert. I'm usually starving at breakfast and lunch but not as hungry at dinner. :dunno:

I'm with you, I love to bake too. I usually make something in a 9" x 13" pan so we have leftovers for the week. My latest favorite are dark chocolate chip oatmeal bars.

There's no lard in boxed brownie mixes :dunno:

Where's Bruce? He didn't specify what ribs his wife was making for dinner  I hope he's ok.
We went to this little hole in the wall place that has great spare ribs. I ate the parsley sprig, for health purposes.
The bad part is the place can get really loud. Not really so awful rowdy but just loud, so the topic of our dinner conversation was yelling "WHAT?" a lot:flail:

I tried Trader Joe's Stacked Eggplant Parmesan for the first time and liked it very much. DH had their meat lasagna and also liked it. We bought their ciabatta baguette to go with dinner. Coconut milk mini-ice cream sandwiches for dessert.
