tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Thanks for the phone info. iPhones are quite a lot to purchase but handy. Of course with me, storage for photos! Lol I have been browsing at times. The hacker issue can be a bad one. Things here are fine as froghair! 🐸 Thank you for asking. Just a bit hairy. Lol

I saw some beautiful clouds today. Cloud pictures!

Froggie Prince investigating the flowers? Making sure all is well.
Yes, the phones are $$$ but this one is more $$ and even though I hadn't wanted to get a new phone, it was necessary so I'm very glad for our checks during these times! My roomies are changing providers and they are apparently going to get the same phones as part of the deal. That will be nice!

Hi everybody- happy Saturday!

Just caught another kitty last night- beautiful long hair calico. She looks to be almost full grown. I have been talking to her for a couple of months now and each week she would inch closer to my car. 'Mrs. O'Malley' is always chasing her off and the time she was able to actually attack her. :(

The trouble is, is that I think she may be somebody's cat. She doesn't act like a feral- she doesn't hiss, growl, or lunge at me, like the others did. I am really conflicted right now, I don't want to take somebody's pet.

Well, you can always post in nextdoor.com, etc. and/or put flyers up in your area...she sounds gorgeous! I hope she wasn't hurt in the fray.

jefferd18 jefferd18 I know the concern. I have had that happen. Post signs around the area that just say,” Found Cat” and give your number. If someone calls and described her, then you have some proof she is theirs. She may have a microchip which the vet can easily check. Posting on Next Door as tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 suggested is a great way to find her family. Cats do get lost sometimes. It’s good for her that you saved her. I hope she is okay. I also posted in common areas of bulletin boards at the local stores and post office. There is a picture at our post office right now of a lost doggy. Everyone here goes to the post office to get their mail so , hoping that family is reunited. Please do keep us posted. She sounds gorgeous.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 That will be great that you all have the same phones. That makes it easier to do certain things between phones. It may be $$$ but if it serves well, it’s worth it.

We had another visitor today but it was a visitor of a different sort. A lost little one. She did not appear greatly hurt. I think she just tried her wings a bit too early. Although I saved her from being in an unsafe place, I cannot keep her. That is not allowed here. She had to be sent to the proper rescuers. She will be getting the care she needs until her wings are strong enough to carry her into feerdom. This is a baby Blue Jay. I only took one photo because I didn’t want to frighten her further.
She has nearly all of her adult plumage so, hopefully, she will be joining the rest of the wild birds soon.
I think she’s beautiful. She took a little dip in
the water dish. Lol I guess she wanted a bird bath!

Hard head or hard headed?
BOTH!

Love your little jay. She'd probably appreciate some cat kibbles, as well. They do eat protein in the wild. In fact, I sometimes throw a handful of kibbles out in the yard. I'm VERY popular with the local jays, crows, and robins! It's a high quality protein source for them

Up here, it's starlings. Unless Grumpy, or the (still unnamed) tuxedo actually puts in an appearance, I don't put food out, because the birds will eat it all. They even fly down to see if there is any in the covered feeder, and if there is, it's din-din time for them. Strangely, if one of the cats is present, the birds are rather reticent. Go figure.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I love her too! I did give her water and kitty food. She is now being checked over by specialists so she is in good hands. I hated to send her to others but she needed some treatment. She will be released or sent to a wild bird sanctuary. There is a really good one in your state that is set up for readaptinv them to the wild before release or giving them a naturalized environment to live in if release is not appropriate. The Blue Jays are very smart birds. Much like a crow, they learn all sorts of neat tricks to aid in their survival. The way she talked..... maybe she is a Blue Jaycatbird? Lol

N NY cat man We have Starlings too. When I was growing up we lived in an old house and the Starlings often built nests in the chimneys. That drove the cats crazy. They could hear them very clearly but could not find them.
Shy birds. Imagine that! A bird that won’t socialize with cats? Hmmm. ;)

Oh, she's precious. I love blue jays, even though they're scavengers, and just prettier versions of crows.

Many years ago blue jays had a nest in a low tree a couple houses from my parents house. The fledglings escaped the nest and ended up in my parent's driveway. Dad tried to rescue them, and suddenly was attacked by the parents! He did get the babies back to the nest, but next day, they returned. They hung around for a couple days before leaving.

That fall, blue jays returned to the area, and Mom started leaving peanuts out for them. One of the blue jays got super brave and would take peanuts out their hands, and even off their knee, if they were sitting down. It also would land on the grill of the screen door and stare inside till it got a peanut. Sometimes it ate it, most times took off to bury them.

For years the same (we think) blue jay would return spring and fall. Sometimes with a mate. Once even with the "family". One spring when it returned, it had an injured foot. It was still the same friendly bird, but it was soon after that his visits stopped. :sniffle: We could never prove it, of course, but we always believed it was one of the babies Dad rescued that day.

They took lots of pictures of him, which I now have. I'll try to find them, and post a couple when I get a chance.

Ah, so the baby is a jay! I wasn't sure. We have a resident family of jays here. I think they're Mexican jays. They don't have crests, and both genders look alike. They're very friendly and will come quite close to me. I've seen three at once, but I call them all "Azul" ("Blue") because...well :crackup:I talk to them and they are very attentive. Yes, they are very intelligent birds, like crows and African grey parrots, among others, and they have attached themselves to people at times. There are videos on YouTube about this. Sure hope "your" little one survives and thrives!

Blue Jays are so pretty. I have gotten quite a peck from patent Birds too. Jays and Movkingbirds can give a hard tap with that beak! Lol Protecting their young. I have seen them chase others creatures too, including hawks and kitties. Both ran away.
That is such a sweet story about the family of jays. I am betting it was the same group. There has been research done that shows that Crows have facial recognition of humans so I expect that extends to the jays too. They know who can be trusted. Kindness is not forgotten. I’d love to see some pictures!

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Indeed they do attach to those they trust. They are also wonderful at sounding an alarm when anything threatens those they care about. I can always tell a little about the safety for animals, birds and humans by listening to the type of calls the blue jays make. They work as a group too. If there is a threat, they join together to repel intruders. Azul is a purrfect name. I hope the little bird survives too. She was a feisty one so I have great hope for her. She had already survived “on a wing and a prayer.” She has a flock of humans hoping for her now.

I remember lots of blue jays growing up in Ohio. For a few years we had one coming around that had lost most of the feathers on its head!
I've started to hear and see them where I live now. For all the years I've lived here we did not have blue jays, they must be spreading west!

pearl99 pearl99 Lost his head feathers?!? Aww!
I think that many species are spreading as climates shift, humans shift and we encroach into the environment. We have had reports of lots of creatures coming up from the coastline. It seems that having humans retreat to being indoors has also given the creatures a feeling of being safe to venture out as well. I don’t know all the whys but I am always glad to see the beauty of nature.
