hello guys i am planning to adopt a cat. lately I suddenly like cats for some reason and plan to adopt a cat.
Previously I didn't like cats because I didn't know about cats and heard that cats are not clean because they carry viruses that can be transmitted to humans such as toxoplasma.
I'm also worried about the open butt of the cat. I see cats always sleeping together with their owners and worry about the litter that still sticks to the cat's rump.
is my concern is reasonable and is there really a way to raise a cat properly?

Hello! :hithere: I’m so glad you found this site. You’ve come to the right place.
Firstly, cat litter can stick to a cat’s butt, but it’s okay. Depending on the type of litter and fur length and the litter box and the general neatness of a cat, this may or may not happen (it never happens to my cats). If it does happen, there are things you can definitely do to prevent/stop this. I would not worry about it.

Hello and welcome to TCS. :wave2: Glad you've found us.
Feel free to ask any questions at all that you have about cats, and being a cat parent. :petcat:

Since you're new to cats, here's a couple TCS articles you might find helpful:

As for your concerns about litter sticking to the cat's butt, I've never seen that happen. Generally the litter gets stuck in their paws, which will loosen and fall off as the cat walks away from the litter box. You can buy litter box mats, though, that will catch some of the litter.

Welcome to TCS! We can't wait to meet your future cat. I would suggest reading the articles that have been suggested. They are full of execellent information. Then, if you have further questions, pick the appropriate forum, and post the question there! You'll hear from a lot of folks who have hands-on experience with pretty much everything under the sun. You'll meet some really terrific cat lovers, and have a ready-made support group when the time comes!

While toxoplasmosis can be an issue for pregnant women, it is generally not a problem, especially if you wash your hands after cleaning the box...which I'm sure you would do, anyway! And I safely handled litter box duties while pregnant by wearing gloves and a mask, then thoroghly washing my hand. The mask was probably overkill, but I wasn't taking chances.

Unless your cat has diarrhea from some infection, the litter will almost certainly not stick to their butt. It is occasionally an issue with long-haired cats, but only occasionally. As rubysmama rubysmama said, it is far more likely to stick to paws, and a mat takes care of that!

Awww... she's adorable. :lovecat4: Congratulations on being a new cat parent. :petcat:

Not sure about her tail. Maybe mention it to the vet when you take her for her checkup and needles.
