US - FDA - The FDA is concerned about the potentially higher risk of false results when using unauthorized tests.
Stop Using Empowered Diagnostics COVID-19 Tests - FDA Safety Communication

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety communication warning people to stop using the Empowered Diagnostics CovClear COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test and ImmunoPass COVID-19 Neutralizing Antibody Rapid Test. These tests were distributed with labeling indicating they are authorized by the FDA, but neither test has been authorized, cleared, or approved by the FDA for distribution or use in the United States. The FDA is concerned about the potentially higher risk of false results when using unauthorized tests.

Canada - stay aware of the frozen corn dangers -
Illnesses continue to be added to a tally of people in Canada who have been sickened in a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak tied to frozen corn.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) reports that there are now 110 people from five provinces who have been confirmed as outbreak patients. As of Dec. 21 there were 84 confirmed patients.

USA - this is an alert, treat it as a recall, seriously they give the reason below, but really????

USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) late Friday issued a public health alert due to concerns that ready-to-eat (R-T-E) chicken salad products produced by Simply Fresh Market, a Marietta, Ga. establishment, may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The FSIS pubic health alert said a recall was not requested because the known affected product is no longer available in commerce for consumers to purchase. FSIS’s concern is that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators.

Europe - Netherlands, Belgium, Spain - Allergy -Meat fraud, I'm posting this because I'd never heard of it and had no idea of how it works. But I think with the veggie meat substitutes (which this ISN"T) there is more possibility for this type of thing. You need to be aware since one sort of meat is not like another, particularly for allergy cases. Arrests have been made.

US - one bit of encouraging news, because we have so very few - there is a click through in case the print on the article is too small (it's quite small) to read comfortably.

The Food and Drug Administration uses import alerts to enforce U.S. food safety regulations for food from foreign countries. The agency updates and modifies the alerts as needed.

China - Mushroom poisonings in China responsible for deaths in 2021. These are accidental not intentional. Be careful when picking wild mushrooms. Though not included in the article the same need to be careful is true through out the world. There are a lot of mushrooms which can kill you.

YES!!!! and total jumping up and down for a good thing! Because you have a right to know where your food comes from and a right to refuse to buy when it comes from horrifying conditions ( looking at you Brazil and the destruction of the rain forest to make cattle ranches. Burning rain forests and all the animals and people who can't run fast enough to escape...*) (Note, I know of no horrors in New Zealand) Okay, back to the point of this thread.

Farm Aid, led by the legendary Willie Nelson, supports the American Beef Labeling Act (S.2716) to reinstate beef’s Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (M-COOL). Farm Aid is looking for political action to pass S.2716.

“Have you ever noticed “Product of the U.S.A.” on a label of beef in the grocery store?” Farm Aid asks. “Would it surprise you to learn that the animal it came from may have been raised and processed in Brazil or New Zealand?

* start here and find more unspeakable actions and pseudo excuses for them.

Czech authorities have found instant noodle soups from Vietnam that were irradiated without declaring this on the packaging.
The Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (SZPI) carried out an inspection to see if producers and importers provided consumers with information on food treated with ionizing radiation.

Wash all fresh food you buy, even stuff you're going to boil/steam for a few minutes, here's why.

The research project is titled, “Validation of sanitizer disinfection of wash water in dump tank operation of apple packing lines,” and is funded by the Center for Produce Safety (CPS).
“You’re never going to be able to totally eliminate or prevent cross-contamination, but we’re trying to look at additional options to see if we can improve (disinfectant) efficacy,” Zhu said.
The researchers focused on Listeria monocytogenes, which has been linked to previous outbreaks associated with apples.

Many common hand disinfectants do not inactivate the Hepatitis E virus (HEV), according to a study.
Researchers found HEV has strong stability against alcohols and alcohol-based hand disinfectants but did identify one substance that worked.
HEV can be found in pigs and infect humans who eat undercooked pork or raw meat products. It is also a major cause of waterborne outbreaks in low and middle-income countries.
