Cat shelter volunteer here as well - plus have 4 resident cats (one is a foster-failure). In the past, when I had just 2 residents, we wanted to adopt more and ended up getting a pair of bonded kittens - so it was a 2 on 2 intro. It worked out very well - I feel like you would have the easier...
UPDATE (5 days later): Scarlet finally came out briefly 2 days ago, then yesterday was out way more, and today couldn't wait to leave the room this morning ;). Thanks for the kind words and encouragement - if/when it happens again, I'll feel more confident that we can deal with the setback.
I started fostering Scarlet (12 year old) in March of this year. By May, we knew we wanted to keep her and adopted her. My bedroom has always been her safe place - she would stay in there 24/7 (I had posted about this before - she didn't want to leave the room, but we would visit her, interact...
Ooooooh, interesting! When I was first prescribed the prednisolone, I did it twice for 2 weeks, then weaned down -- seems like she was on the meds for over a month! Then I filled a prescription to have on hand "just in case", but it's already expired (I only had it for a month) so I was just...
Hi all!
Quick background: I started fostering Scarlet (front paw declawed, 12 year old calico) in March of this year (2021) - knew nothing of her background or anything else about her. Within a week or two in my home, she would get low to the ground, stick her neck out, and cough the most...
Hi all,
I'm new to feline asthma - my foster failure Scarlet (12 years old) just got diagnosed with feline asthma and we just finished a course of Prednisone. That worked wonderfully and now she's not having any asthma attacks....however, I'm guessing we aren't "done" with the issue, only that...
Awesome guys, thanks! I definitely don't want to push her and I'm certainly willing to just let her set the pace. She's definitely skittish in certain situations and so I'll just keep on doing what we're doing AND read the recommended articles. Thanks so much!
A little background: All new cats to our household start out in my bedroom and slowly transition to the general areas of the house based on their comfort (as in, I let them take the lead). Eventually, everyone wants out (to explore, etc.) and gets introduced to the resident cats and the rest of...
I guess it’s possible that it was too much/too fast although it just seems weird since that hasn’t happened before, and since there was so much hair in there as well. Also sounds like I need to try smaller portions…
Well I'm back with another vomit thread because.....cats!! Can someone explain to me hairballs, and if your cat has them, have they ever thrown up their ENTIRE DINNER at the same time??
Our 12 year old foster was upstairs in my bedroom, and my husband and son happened to be in there watching...
When she throws up bits of undigested food, it is within 15 minutes of eating. To complicate matters, she also eats hay (we also have 3 guinea pigs, and no matter how hard I try, there's always bits of hay lying around, and for some reason, she likes to eat it!)....so then I find throw up with...
One of my cats, Tundra, has what I consider to be an EXTREMELY sensitive stomach. I've tried all sorts of wet food, some dry treats, tuna, chicken, broths, etc. She only seems to be able to stomach one particular dry food (everything else she throws up) - and even then, we find vomit all...
She's now eating again. Enough dry food to have me not worry - and licking gravy off of wet. I still wish I knew why the 1 week hunger strike, but at least, for now, she's back to what I consider her normal....
Update on Scarlet: she went in yesterday. Bloodwork was fine, everything else checked out ok. I was given more recovery food, plus an appetite stimulant. When we got home, after getting pets and being brushed, she used the litterbox and went straight over to the dry food and started eating...
Hasn't eaten anything on her own yet - I'm handfeeding completely. The AD recovery is helping her at least maintain energy and focus - she's not as lethargic and unfocused as she was yesterday. She goes in tomorrow for a recheck and they will be focusing on her teeth and possible digestive...
Thanks for the reply - I'm definitely going to keep trying more, in addition to what I have already listed. And don't worry - any unused food goes to my resident cats or donated to the shelter I volunteer at. :)
Thanks! And yes, all is well now. She doesn't like the handfeeding, but she did just hop up on the bed with me and watch a squirrel video....and I brushed her, and petted her and all seems well again. I mention in my update that under the bed is blocked off, but she still has plenty of places...
Update: well, I didn't have to drag her out from under the bed (which I wouldn't do anyway), she came out willingly! I then proceeded to block off the bed with cardboard so she couldn't get under again.
I do appreciate all of the suggestions: and to be truthful, I tried many, many of those...
