We had a "can malfunction " this morning when preparing breakfast. Boone and Gracie were mightily confused when the can opener came out and they didn't hear the sweet sound of a popping of the top.

That happened twice last week to me. No kidding! I think these cat food companies are going cheap on the cat lids. I notice the fliminess and how it is much easier to pull the tab off. TG I had a can opener around. 🙂

Boone and Gracie can literally be in a room on the other side of the house with the door closed and can hear me pop the top off a can of cat food and they come running. Even when I try to do it quietly to see how long it takes before they come running.

I’ve tried sneaking into the garage and slowly pulling off the lid. When I open the garage door, Mocha is sitting there looking at me. :yummy:

Will be working on a lot of self-care and soothing today. Had a rough night last night emotionally and my body is getting stuck in fight or flight. Trembling off and on throughout the night and this morning. Might go for a drive and see if it helps me feel safer. Reminding myself this will pass.

Love reading everyone's can opening stories. Too cute.

So, do you have to let your cats sniff the can if it's not cat food? Like, if I open a can of beans or pumpkin puree or something, I have to let Sparkle sniff it so she knows its not for her (if it's a can of tuna, I have to try and protect it, though!)

Maggie wants to lick everything. Even if it's not something that she really likes, she wants to taste it. She loves to lick dad's BBQ chips. Not sure how healthy that is.

Hmm.. not sure "let" is the correct word. Normally Gracie is all up in my business whenever she sees me doing anything in the kitchen. She is either on the countertop taste testing whatever is available or she is on the table taste tasting whatever is available over there. Last night, she was licking the biscuit dough as I was trying to cut them into quarters for a recipe I was making. She loves to taste whatever we are having including drinks. She is forever drinking out of our cups of water or sweet tea.

Lord knows I cannot wait to move out of this rental unit. They gave us a 24 hour notice that they are going to enter the house. We usually don't touch our mail when it comes right away so we had no idea. They start knocking 9am. I open the door. They had mask on initially but then took them off a quarters way through the job. One of the guys is coughing and sneezing. :fuming: On top of that, they made a huge mess in the basement and even broke some things. The superintendent (or whatever Joe's job is) didn't tell us the extent of the repair. They are changing the pipes in the basement. All of them... :livid:That would have been useful information and then we would have been able to move all of our stuff. If you are going to do such an extensive repair, wouldn't more than 24 hour notice be necessary? And of course the cats are all terrified. Felix and Harvey were trapped down there for hours because I couldn't get them to come up with all the loud noise the workers were making.

I had a fat tabby that was an eating machine. I tried everything with him to keep his weight down- to no avail. The funniest thing is he could look like he is in a deep sleep in another room and when you open a can of cat food and turn around--he is right there. lol:chessirecat: It was so darn strange.😯

Mooch’s “thing” was ice cream. Neither of my two went crazy over people food (except corn cobs or corn muffin wrappers...) but if DH had a bowl of ice cream she’d be at his feet staring intensely until she got to lick it out.

Noodles thing was Snapple lids. Regular cans wouldn’t move her. Only Snapple lids. I guess they sound too much like cans. And then she’d glare at me for tricking her. Bad Meowmie.:paperbag:

Yours must be related to Boone. They sound very similar. Gracie likes to sleep in my youngest's room and he always keeps his door closed. I can pop the top on a cat food can and two seconds later, hear his door being opened and Gracie comes running into the kitchen.

Boone follows me around if he sees me get a water bottle out of the fridge. He is at my heels until I open it and lay the cap down. Then he grabs it and bats it around the kitchen floor or will take it downstairs to play with it.
