The worst thing about the staples I had was the pinching of the skin as the wound healed. Getting them out was not painful (to me) and was a big relief. Took less than 10 minutes, closer to 5.

And Happy Birthday.
Definitely agree. With every staple that comes out your incision area feels so much better.

It's more effective, yes. But as with any NSAID it can cause kidney issues. Tylenol is much, much safer.
She is taking Tylenol and it is not helping. Now is not the time to worry about kidney function. I take two naproxen every morning for arthritis, and my kidney function has actually improved over the past year.

There's a lot I don't understand about your situation. It's difficult to believe that they discharged you from the hospital after serious surgery without a prescription for pain meds.
You will also need a prescription for any of the meds I mentioned. If for some reason you don't have or get a prescription, take naproxen (Aleve) instead of Tylenol. Naproxen is much more effective than Tylenol.
There was some type of argument between my mom and the hospital about the Naproxen. She read that it could cause stomach bleeding in people with my injury. The pharmacist sided with my mom. The hospital got mad and said go find a primary care doctor. So I got no prescription for pain pills, since I don't have my doctor yet. The good thing is, I found out her office is 10 minute from my house. So my dad can take me anytime if I want to talk to her in private.

It's more effective, yes. But as with any NSAID it can cause kidney issues. Tylenol is much, much safer.
Tylenol is not working for me though, not strong enough. Hopefully my new doc can help me find something that works so I can sleep.

Kitty kisses and wishes for a Happy Birthday!
Thanks kitties!

I think it's probably a good thing that I couldn't have the cute ER doc for my doctor. He made fun of my cane! Hopefully having a woman doc, she will be more sensitive. I hope? He thinks I'm too young to be using a cane.

Meet my niece Masala, the Tortie! She is my brother & sister-in-law's outdoor feral in San Antonio Texas. They help to TNR the ferals in the neighborhood. I guess Masala means a spicy dish? Masala is very spicy and supposedly will rip my face off if I try to hug her. I don't really believe that though, she looks so innocent. If I ever get to San Antonio, we'll see. ;)

You are right about the naproxen. I forgot about that. Still, it was insensitive to discharge you with nothing.

Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.
Agreed. Here's the thing about hospitals. They only have liquid pain killers, mine only has morphine. I got into a fight with one of the nurses. She said the doctor told her to give me 4 units every two to four hours. I didn't want morphine at all. I asked for something like Vicodin. She informed me that the hospital doesn't have anything other than Morphine. I would rather suffer than have Morphine, so I did. When I was discharged I was told that they couldn't give me a prescription for pain killers, I would have to see my PCP.
It's some sort of BS red tape thing.

I know, I love her. :redheartpump:

So this is normal then, they keep telling me to find a PCP. Well hopefully I will tomorrow or sometime this week, since she is 10 minutes from me.

She’s a beauty! Spicy? Maybe Masala is sweet and spicy.
My brother said Masala is sweet until you try to touch her. Sounds like my little devil Maggie. :devilish: Maggie has been really sweet to me, not even smacking me at all. I think she knew I was hurt badly. She was by my side when my stomach snapped into my bowels and I ran into my dad's room climbed on the bed and grabbed the wall paneling and screamed. She ran up to me and tried to hug me or help me or something. :(

Young ER doc teased you? I think it was teasing more than making fun.
I don't know. I got the sense he thought I was milking the situation. But I've never had my stomach cut open before. I'm having a really hard time with the pain. I never really had pain when I was healthy.

Happy Birthday, Maggiedemi and good luck tomorrow. I know you will be glad to have it over with.
Thank you. Yes, definitely can't wait for the staple part to be over. :fear:

Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.
Thank you. I will. The appointment for the staples is at 1:30pm, then I will see if the lady doc will see me afterwards.

Masala is an Indian blend of spices, I've not had anything cooked with it but from my experience with Indian cuisine I would imagine it's on the hot side.

I suppose it depends on where you live, the hospitals around where I live all have on site pharmacies to fill prescriptions including pain killers. The hospitals around here also have painkillers besides morphine, tramadol is a common alternative.

Yes, and any licensed doctor can write a prescription to be filled elsewhere.

Hospitals do have other painkillers including pills but your doctor has to order it. Usually doctors order the injectable opiates like Demerol or morphine because they are stronger and the nurses won’t call them just to get the painkiller changed. I always hated the way these made me feel so I always talked to my doctor ahead of time to make sure he or she placed orders for me to given a lesser painkiller if I requested it, like a Tylenol codeine pill.

I had asked the tech why I couldn't get something else. I asked him if they had a contract with the pharmaceutical company or something. His words were - "I can neither confirm nor deny this".
That told me everything I wanted to know.
