I thnk he needs replacing.

I'm with you.

My dad told me many years ago to never get involved deeply, either as a friendship or romanticly, with someone who doesn't like cats. He said that every one of them has issues with control, and I've found that to be true, almost without exception. I do not count phobias or allgeries, those can't be helped, but neither do I invite those people to be close with me, simply because cats are such a huge part of my life.
Agree 100%, Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 -- so true. And it'd be like if I had kids and someone wanted me but not my kids. That'd be a deal-breaker.
Personality-wise, for me anyway, the people I'm most compatible with are revealed as cat-lovers. I will listen to anyone (as long as they're not a rabid cat-hater, racist, religious intolerant or otherwise very undesirable person) because I like to hear what other people feel and why they feel that way. Education should be a lifelong process, yes?

Then you have me that loves cats and still has control issues (which I am working on, promise). :running:

I took some silly online test and it "revealed" that I'm OCD. While I don't believe that, I do like things neat, clean and orderly, so if that makes me that, then I guess I am. And that would also make me "controlling" of my environment, yes? :sigh: Seems sometimes like everyone's fair game for someone's criticism. Oh well.

She has a non cat boyfriend. He stated that he does not love cats and BJ was unable to convert him!
Oh dear. If BJ wasn't able to convert him, well....not good. :headshake:

no matter another's attributes, they are to be treated as we would want to be treated.
Imagine if everybody followed this rule, towards all humans & animals. :sunshine:

Especially since our cats are like our kids. :heartshape:

I like to hear what other people feel and why they feel that way.
This is a good outlook. :hugs:

Well we're not being controlling if we simply know the right way that things ought to be done. Right?!

I think we all need some control. If we had none we would never accomplish anything. :runaround:A control obsessed person is a different sort. People with those issues want to control every aspect of everything! I stay away from that. I think we all have our pet peeves too. That’s just being human. I agree with Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 s Dad. If someone doesn’t like cats, I would not be able to live with them. I do understand hunting being a part of life. Many here do it to survive. Fishing and catching other sea creatures too. It always bothered me when my Dad brought home birds like quail but he grew up helping to provide. He did stop as I got older. We didn’t need the hunting then and it became hard for him to justify it to me. Lol I always met him at the door! Later the sea creatures were safe too when we were all scuba diving and he saw the beauty of everything in the natural state. We do all continue to learn as we go. My poor mother was sent a Live Maine lobster when I was a toddler. I grabbed it up and tried to keep it. I even put it in the tub with me that night. When I woke up the next day she told me that the Lobster had been called home by its’ mother. Luckily for her, I believed that. She never got another one.

I spent today catching up on house cleaning. I put the room on hold for now. The cat fur was forming a colony! :p I gave the dirt devil a real test. It wasn’t as loud as my last one but the cats were still horrified. Mostly. The vacuum survived and didn’t cough anything up. It has pretty strong suction and I only found one stray dustbunny of fur. Around here, that’s saying a lot! It got up some dry cat food, some tracked , clumping litter and whatever else was in here. I also took it out to the room being repaired and it got up sawdust. So far it has passed my test. The cats impression of it.... not so great. ;)

Why did you bring a monster in the house Mom?

We did have one who decided to face the beast. BJ. Always the defender of all.
81A03CE7-2F45-45D3-9DE7-2A3A10BB1E7A.jpeg

He placed himself between the beast and the other cats.

He watched, concerned, as I wrestled the creature.
3EE3B8FD-9DE6-4B7C-BCA2-48E828316790.jpeg

He did get worried when the creature growled as it cruised the room.
0FF76E7C-B6A0-45F4-BDC8-B1183104C45D.jpeg

But in the end he sat beside me on the floor. The beast had ceased its’ warm breath and growling. We were the victors! All the kitties survived under their guardian BJ! :yess:
9D757718-B86B-4AA0-A505-B76882016834.jpeg

:flail: Good ol BJ! No matter what the threat he stands beside me and the kitties. I could not ask for more from anyone. :catlove:

I am still trying to calm a couple of the kitties. Banjo is very indignant and Whistle has refused to look at the beast. He may be afraid that it is related to Medusa. It does have that Snakey tube on it. Lol Mitsy took to the top of the washing machine. My old fellow Dolly went to the top of the kitchen cabinets and went to sleep. He has seen other beasts and knows the routine. I haven’t located Bonjure or Smokey yet. Hmmmm. They have both had lots of practice at hiding. Smokey!!!!!
Bonjure!!!!!!
Time for treats I guess. :D
Have a good night everyone! I’m going to look under the furniture and in the kitchen cabinets!

My parents, especially my mom, educated me from the start that no matter another's attributes, they are to be treated as we would want to be treated.

So basically the Golden Rule, with animals included. :)

I'm a bit of a control freak, so I can only imagine that the test would reveal about me. :rolleyes2:

Poor lobster. Maybe he was released back to the ocean, says naive me. :sigh:

;) I know when I went to bed he was beside me in a bucket. I wouldn’t let Mom cook him. Surely she drove him back to the sea after I fell asleep. I’m sure he heard his Mommy call him.

rubysmama rubysmama Yes, all of the major ideologies have that pronouncement, similarly worded, and it is one we should all follow if we are selfish, as we all are, because ultimately, it helps US. ;) And all ideologies instruct us to be kind to our fellow living beings, as well.
And I'll be in that naive club, too.
Jcatbird Jcatbird I come from hunting cultures but urban background, so I was lucky enough to miss the closeness to it; and I understand subsistence hunting. Trophy hunting or "sport" hunting, not at ALL and I spend a fair amount of time being active against those.
Brave Kodiak! I'm pretty sure none of mine would get close to The Big Turquoise Monster.
Thrasher is adorable!
And Bonjure and Smokey? VERY, very wise.;)

You've lived such an exciting life. Love the animal stories. :purplebutterfly::purplebutterfly::purplebutterfly:

My cats sit with their paws crossed in front of them like that when I vacuum. They like to watch me, then roll around on the clean rug. :)

Yes, people often forget to include animals in the Golden Rule. :catrub:

Some day, when you all have time, and if any of you are interested, I shall recount the story of My Father and the Lobster, and a Flying Trip to Maine.
I've got some time now. Let's hear it.

rubysmama rubysmama the Golden Rule is a very good one. If only everyone followed it for all creatures, great and small. That used to be taught in schools here. I don’t know if it still is or not. It should be.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Yes, yes! Please relate the story of the Lobster, your Dad and the Flying trio to Maine! I am intrigued.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Trophy hunting is an abomination. I grew up around much hunting and I know that some mounted specimens were from the food caught but I don’t like walking into homes that have faces that can no longer look back. In the past it was about using everything so that nothing was wasted. Antlers became tools or tool handles. Thanks was given for the source of survival and respect was shown. Trophies show disrespect at the greatest level. The only reason I could ever see for mounting is to preserve a creature to educate and preserve for the future. As in the last Tasmanian tiger. Perhaps they are not extinct and someone will recognize one in the wild to further protection and preservation. Early beliefs of killing only what was required and utilizing everything should be maintained.
I had a friend here the other day and a snake was in my yard. The friend thought I would get rid of it. We have had little rain and parts of the swamp are dry. The snake was thirsty. It was a beautiful black racer. I went over to her and she did not run. I came in and got a jug of water. I took it to the edge of my woods and poured it so the snake could feel the vibrations as it hit the dish I had out. She came right to it. She waited until I moved from the dish and then drank from the water. She allowed me to remain within a foot of her. Why would anyone kill a creature that just needed water? I took pictures of her but didn’t post them in case anyone is upset by such. To me she was beautiful. I knew she was harmless and would not have hesitated to pick her up if she needed help. She and the king snake that live here often visit. They are as close to being tame as one raised inside. They protect us from other things. All creatures are here for a reason. Life should be respected and protected. The golden rule should be true for all.

AWWW, that was quite a stalking and pouncing game!
Best thoughts of wellness and *PRAYERS* for your ear to get better quickly. Ear stuff is no fun. Both my mom and I got really tiny Eustacean tubes and have had/had a lot of trouble so I know about ears.
Yeah, I agree about subsistence hunting and also about the "heads". And I have some really old stuff here, that came from ancestors, including stuff using antlers, bones, and even tusks. I don't like these, but I don't throw them out, either -- someone died for them to be made and I respect that.
Nice "tail" about the black racer. We had a red racer on our land in the Mojave who was a frequent visitor or more likely a resident. Beautiful snake! We didn't disturb the rattlers, either -- it's their land, not ours. My ex did move a juvenile from our driveway out to the undeveloped parcel to our NE. Other than that, we watched out for them and gave them the right of way. Most people out there got their shovels out. I didn't like that.
I'd love to hear the "lobster tale"!
How is the renovation going?

A friend has relocated to Canada. Does anyone know what good and reasonable cats foods are available there?
Here is a link to them. I really want to help them as they have had quite a few months and a rough flight. The kitty escaped the carrier during the flight!!!
Now the kitty is extremely frightened in a new country.

My signal and phone are going out very badly today. Terrible storm came through. A lot of lightning, wind and rain. I have gotten through long enough to try and help about an emergency with a mom cat that has kittens and trouble after the birth but little I can do. Do we have any vet associated people on site? This person lives 100 mikes from a vet. I suggested all I could think of and sent an emergency email to someone but I may not be able to reply if I get a response. I got to my thread purely by luck.

Thank you to all who helped @Psybug
I really appreciate all the kind responses. Not only has this person rescued the cat Chotu but they have moved to a new country and are about to be married! That’s a lot in a short time. I admire all they have accomplished. Chotu was semi feral and would have been alone if not taken along. I was informed that cats are not viewed in the country of origin the same as here. The saga of Chotu is an amazing tail to read if you are interested. Thank you for helping them!!:redheartpump:

I’ll return if I can. I am going to try and check on the other cat.

The renovation was on hold because of appointments until today but it got stopped again because of the storm. I needed to use power tools. Lol :storm: Maybe tomorrow. These things never finish up on schedule. I had hoped....

My doctor was a bit surprised that I am doing the renovations. He knows I have done this sort of thing but he finds it amusing that I still do so I invited him to join me. :p That would be fun!

Are those snakes poisonous?:fear:

The black racer and Tara’s red racer are not poisonous. My racer is very gentle. It is used to seeing me and knows I will not chase it.

Yes it is!

It is still raining but the worst seems to have stopped. I have not been out yet.

I just heard, 90% chance of thunderstorms tonight. 80% Tomorrow!

I’m glad I finished putting the siding up outside. ;)

Cat photos coming if I can get back.

Okie dokie! I have done all I can elsewhere for now. How about sharing some smiles? This is what I imagine the kitties are taking about.

It’s raining so Banjo and the construction crew refused to work anymore today. Banjo got raindrops on her paw! :kitty:

For any of you who don’t know, BJ has been trying to get Kodiak more comfortable around all the other kitties.

Since she came to us before BJ was in charge and then went traveling, he felt she needed a little snuggling.

He does love the girls and he is very protective of everyone but last night he really made sure she felt the touch of kitty kindness.

I’m very glad to you relaxed BJ. BJ? Lol This is quite a difference from the days when he first joined us. I would never picture him trying to eat me right now!

Mom, BJ is supposed to be protecting us.
I think I should throw raindrops on him and see what he does then.

I could swear that is an innocent face two photos ago but that last one.....Looks like a mischievous grin to me!

I did not let Banjo disturb BJ.

I hope I was able to share a smile with everyone. These faces get me laughing every time.:kitty::redheartpump:

A friend has relocated to Canada. Does anyone know what good and reasonable cats foods are available there?
Ruby and I should be able to answer this question, however with her sensitive digestive system, she eats vet only prescription food, so I don't know much about other other available foods.

Petsmart.ca would probably be a good place to check out.
