Finished The Book of the Dead and am halfway through The Wheel of Darkness. I am really enjoying working my way through this series!

I have been reading WW2 women's fiction about south London. I don't know why I started reading them..I picked up a book set in that area and just started reading..I read I think 6? books by Various authors, Dee William is one. Then I found On a Wing and A Prayer by Helen Carey. OMG talk about fabolous saga writing! this was #3 of 6 book series. I got all the others from thriftbooks on ebay and currently on book #5.

Helen Carey (Author of Lavender Road)

They are all the same characters on Lavender Road...and I love the adventures of the people who go overseas for various things..I don't know why I like these type of novels.. but I enjoy reading stories about true grit and family dynamics..I kind of got bored with American books and decided to branch out. I also have been reading a WW2 account by an Air force pilot based in 1939ish era. very eye opening!

I got to catch up on 4 pages of posts! I read for about 2 to 5 hours every night.

@Mamanyt1953 I knew you would love those southern novels. I have about 3 books she has released since 2015 I need to read but her older novels were absolutely wonderfully written!!! I like that they are stand alone novels because I read them out of order. I love any beachy book- Luanne Rice and Erin Hilderbrand are ones I can think of off the top of my head. Luanne rice wrote For the Roses I think it's called-that was a really good book. Nancy Thayer is another good author. I have some by Mary Kay Andrews that I need to get reading...I noticed her books sell pretty good too. I wish I could read faster!

I've finished all 6 "Dunbarton Mysteries" by Valerie Tate. They were rather contrived.

The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump, by Andrew G. McCabe, was much, much better and well worth reading. Basically, it's a well-written account of how the FBI operates. Unfortunately, the people who should read it won't, because parts of it are very unflattering to their idol.

foxxycat foxxycat , you might enjoy Connie Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog -- it's a loose blend of historical fiction and sci-fi, time travel story set in London -- both 21st century and the 1940s WWII.

Oh NO! I finished the eighth book in Julia Spencer-Fleming’s Fergusson/Van Alstyne series, went looking for the ninth, and THERE ISNT ONE! Through the Evil Days was published in 2013 but nothing since then—and one of the side storylines was left dangling. :frown:

I’ll second that recommendation! There are four others about the time-traveling Oxford historians as well. Fire Watch, Blackout, and All Clear are also 21st century and WWII while The Doomsday Book is 21st century and the 1300s during the Plague. Connie Willis is an excellent writer. She’s an alumna of the university where my husband and I worked, and he invited her speak to his class. He said she was incredibly well read, articulate, witty, and kind. Pretty cool!
