Yup, they're holding him until then because I told them it would be easier to pick him up on the weekend. They have been so amazing. We keep telling everyone how nice they are. I'm so grateful because it's difficult finding kindness like that in the world anymore. A veterinary technician's job is hard so I applaud them. I'll be talking about this for the rest of my life!

Felix is home now - we picked him up early this morning. He missed me so much. When they brought him out in his carrier and he noticed that it was me, he cried and cried and tried to bust out. If he could destroy the carrier, he would. The whole ride home, he cried for me when I wasn't looking at him and tried to get out. He was scratching at the mesh and rubbing his face on me. Then, when we got home, he rubbed up all over my legs and followed me. Every time I looked back at him, all I saw was love in his eyes. It made me cry. We have to go for blood work in 14 weeks. Now, all that's left to fix are his teeth. He'll need a root canal. I don't know if it can wait 3 months but we'll see how things go.

Wow, everything is fine and over. Just before Christmas, what a wondeful gift for all of you!

When I treated my cat, I was told that any other vet visit should have been postoponed by at least 4 weeks to allow any residual radiation to die out.

Wonderful to read your story. I hope Felix is feeling better now.

My cat Mikka will hopefully undergo the same treatment soon. There are many clinics in the UK but they won't take him unless he can be stabilised with the pills. But the pills have cut his appetite and he keeps losing weight. He also looks rather sad and doesn't vocalise as much as in the past. Luckily no vomiting and the initial diarrhoea went after I gave him Hill's digestive dry food. He also has pancreatitis which doesn't help. His first blood test is in two weeks' time and hopefully, he will be stabilised by then.

Please let us know how long it takes for the iodine treatment to be effective on Felix.

I hope your cat is healthy enough for treatment. Felix has been doing okay but is vomiting a lot for some reason. I think it's because he's been off the pills for so long. It'll take a while for his T4 to stabilize.

Thanks, Lily. Mikka is a 15-year-old Maine Coon so he has reached the upper end of his breed's average lifespan but I refuse to let him go and would do anything to improve his health.
Regarding the vomiting, have you tried Hill's Digestive care i/d? It has stopped all vomiting and diarrhoea virtually overnight. Mikka really likes Hill's dry.

I just brought Cole home today from his treatment. He is SO happy to be home and we're happy to have him back, too! I gave him so much cuddling.
Good to hear that Cole is back. I hope the beneficial effects of the therapy will appear soon.
It looks like cats are kept for less time than in the UK. I have been told that hospitalisation would last two weeks due to the risk of radiation.

Hi. Just wondering hoe Felix is doing? I know when my Onyx came home from I-131 the first 4 weeks were a little unsettling for her (and me).

He's good as far as I can see. He did vomit a few times but that happened a lot before we knew about the thyroid issue. He hasn't vomited in about a week or more. He's back to sleeping in my bed. He isn't scheduled for blood work yet so I have to wait and see what his levels are saying. He has gained quite a bit of weight over the past few weeks. I hope he can keep it on because he's been a concerning skinny for majority of his life.

So good to hear about Felix's progress. The weight gain is particularly good news.
Sadly, the thyroid medicine unmasked my Mikka's kidney failure. He had a massive crisis last week and passed away on Saturday.

I don't think his condition has been managed properly. When he started the thyroid treatment he had normal test results on the kidney but was drinking excessively, something I had told the vet. I have now read a veterinary article suggesting that, when kidney failure is a possibility, the cure for thyroid should start with one 1.25 pill a day to see the effects. As soon as he was given the 5 mg pill, his weight went down rapidly and he had a terrible crisis which led to an irreversible situation. The pills had reduced the heart rate, and the flow of blood to the kidney which was fatal - the hyperthyroidism was actually protecting the kidney.
I hope my sad experience will help others who are reading this.

I'm so sorry, deeply sorry :(:(:(
I know what it means, I have been there before, last August, with a cat who had been treated with I-131... :(:(:(

As a matter of fact, this should ALWAYS be the starting dosage, and it could be adjusted it later if needed.
It is highly discouraged to start with higher dosage.

I'm sorry for your Mikka :(
