The rain always gets here a few hours after it hits Glendale where tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 lives so it did not start here until way after midnight but it has been steadily raining ever since, the light soaking-in kind. I'm sure glad I got all that compost into the garden yesterday, the other 6 bags can wait. It's also not as cold as it has been, the extra humidity helps. Although it's almost noon kitties are awake and walking around or lounging wide-eyed wherever they can watch me. Strange.
I have to go to the store for things that can't wait like more cat food and some more litter, also eggs and while I'm out might just as well stop at the nursery (Green Thumb) to see what they have in the way of plants for the garden and a digging fork. Then I'll check my seed supply, I know I've got plenty from last year that will do just fine. :yess:

This is an age restricted community so nobody under 50 lives here. But when I went to my garden yesterday I found my digging fork missing, somebody must have just reached across the fence and snagged it. There are plenty of tools available in the community garden shed but I have noticed not a digging fork in sight.:( So somebody taking mine is really annoying. You'd think that us older folks would be beyond petty theft for something like that, I guess not.:headshake: No wonder there is a plan to put an electronic gate on the entrance to the community garden, at least it will keep the general public out and we'll know for certain that it is fellow gardeners who do stuff like that. Or maybe workmen who are employed here. I lost a beach buggy and a flatbed truck out of the underground garage, both of which I used to move stuff too bulky or too heavy to move by hand. :cloudy:

Lest you think this is all negative let me assure it's not. There is hardly a chance for mudslides here, there have been none since this community was established in 1965, the sprinklers don't have to come on (we are short 6 inches of rain!), the waterfowl will be out in droves, there is little traffic because folks don't know how to drive in the rain, the stores will be empty so I can get in and out fast, I'm healthy and so are kitties, I'm not broke as my tax return check paid for a few unexpected bills (car!), so what more can I ask for? Life is pretty good. :hyper:
Oh, that's really nasty to steal someone's digging fork. I have very strong feelings about theft. My ex took my crowbar and I'll never forgive him for that. When I told him, he said, "It's a crowbar!" as if that justified it. GRRR. :livid:
But yes, on the PAWSitive side, we do like to be generous with our precip here in SoCali because *drought* *plants* *water is life* and all that. :daisy::bluebutterfly::bluedragonfly::butterfly::purplebutterfly::reddragonfly::evergreen::tree::clover::fallsmiley::popworm:

Woke up with *THREE* beloved cats curled and purring, and now I am working away enjoying the sound of the rain (and Beethoven's 6th) with a tortoiseshell laptop and this just in! a blue-cream visitor.
tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - The Pastorale is so beautiful, and so "unBeethoven" (at least when we think of the Eroica or the Victory or the Chorale); I've always associated it with Margaret Pollock Sherwood's In Memoriam: Leo: A Yellow Cat, because - as Leo did for the poet - it does indeed, "wake a sense of springing flowers, of nesting birds," and, "of lambs reborn." What a perfect selection for a rainy day.

After a grilled Parmigiano-Reggiano and Salame Portofino sandwich, I'm barely able to get out of the chair ready to finish up a bit of Spring cleanup on the beach. Today's bright sunlight actually makes the forty degree temperatures pleasant - and far more pleasant than this time of year has any right to be in the northeast.

Beethoven is my most beloved western Classical composer. I know a lot of people think of his work as loud, bombastic, etc., maybe because of what they've heard about him as a person, which is only a part of who he was. He was also deeply devoted to nature and to the cause of freedom and justice for mankind. The Ninth is the ultimate composition, IMHO, but I also count the 6th and his Piano Concerto No. 5 among my most loved music. I also feel a connection to him because his date of passing and my date of birth are the same -- March 26th (though not in the same year ) I'm sort of like the Peanuts character, Schroeder, I guess, in that I've always been obsessed with Ludwig. I haven't read that book but hope to get the chance.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 , March is your birth month, very nice! On my Speedy's adoption paperwork, her Birthday is listed as March 26th, a very nice day indeed.

I have had a Hitchcock movie on, Jamaica Inn while working today around the house, but want to sit down maybe and watch it again with my complete attention or perhaps paw-sitively I will choose Rebecca, The Lady Vanishes, or Notorious, all of which I have seen. Which one to choose, that is most of the fun for me.

Awww, that's great! I don't believe in astrology but that is Aries=Cardinal Fire, which does describe yours truly.
Speaking of vintage films, I've got one for you that's rather obscure, very good, and features a CAT. Hope you can see "GIGOT" sometime. 1963, starring the great Jackie Gleason in a very great departure from his comedic roles. I believe he wrote the score as well. My mom loved this movie, introduced me to it, and I've loved it ever since. Don't miss it.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - One of Gleason's best rôles, surely, though never a word is actually spoken. It also shines a light on Gene Kelly's ability as a director. It's one of my all time top ten films.

A stunning day here today, if just a trifle cool. The place looks a bit better now, with much of Winter's detritus cleared away, and as the clouds pass overhead, the stars weave in and out, appearing and disappearing like July's fireflies.

OMC! Thank you! for loving this film! You're the only person I've ever talked with, apart from my mom (and dad) who's ever even heard of it. And it IS such a great film! Film buffs love it. As they should.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I think you might be surprised at how many "cat people" are familiar with Gigot. It did, after all, star Orangey as his cat - the self same Orangey who played opposite Audrey Hepburn in Truman Capote's Breakfast At Tiffany's as Holly Golightly's 'cat named Cat,' and in The Diary of Anne Frank as Peter's, "Moushie." Orangey is (or at least was at one time) the only animal actor to have won two Catsy Patsy awards.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 , I do indeed hope to see Gigot soon and have added the title to my "wish" list of movies as it has been highly recommended by you, 1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine and segelkatt segelkatt . How could I not view it now, as well? The movie that I did choose today was a lighthearted musical, The Pirate, a favorite of mine, with Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. I sort of get taken away when I watch these movies as I start thinking about everything from the costume to facial expressions of the actors. I guess you could say I get carried away!
All the more paw-sitive was that Speedy watched the movie while reclining on my shoulder and of course, I did not have the heart to move her, naturally. She gave the film high marks.;)

Good morning TCS! Sounds like I've got some movie watching to do. Pawsitively glad to have found this thread. There is so much on this site to keep me exploring!
donnae donnae - While you're at it, don't miss Paperhouse; you'll never forget it.

Yet another beautiful day here, and there are signs of Spring everywhere. A good day to pull the cars out and wash them, straighten up the barn and the garages, and just plain get out of the house for a while!

Was he in "Rhubarb" as well? That's another old film with a cat in it. I bought the book at a used book store years ago. He was an orange tabby, I remember, and the book was about baseball.

One of my colony kitties is almost tame enough to be adopted I think. She is so cute and friendly, I want to give her a chance. My rescue friend agreed to get her revetted and board at the vets office for a week for kitty training. If she does well she will go to a shelter for adoption. I put her in a cat carrier and left if on my steps for a minute. The carrier was kind of crappy and cheap. The kitty jumped around and wiggled around so much it fell down the steps and opened up. I felt so bad, I figured the kitty would be very freaked out and hard to catch again. But I went out and found her again and picked her up. She was just fine. I thought if she can stay calm after falling down the stairs in a carrier, she's got to be tame enough to get adopted. ::Fingers Crossed::

@tarasgirl - He was; it (along with Breakfast At Tiffany's) was one of his Patsy Award-winning films. Here's Orangey's Wikipedia page:

The sunlight hasn't slowed down here, but I have. Time for lunch and then back outside. Robins, Cardinals and Blue Jays everywhere today!

I am going to Rome in a couple of months! I am very excited :yess: And alongside all the things I want to see and do, I will definitely make a visit (And donation) to the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary there.

And it was a warmer and sunny day today too, so that is very nice. Spring is peeping in more and more, thankfully!

Hah! I'm going to Barcelona (Spain) in a couple of months! AND, while I'm there, my friends that are going to Rome are going to fly over to Barcelona to meet me. What's with all the International travel all of a sudden? While at the dentist last month, HE told me He was going to Barcelona in May also. And someone else told me the same thing, only I can't remember who it was.

On a side note, the weather here is awesome as well .

I haven't visited this thread in a while as there has been a lot going on and much of it not positive!

When you live in an urban area, there is always change... in the form of great old, charming houses being knocked down to make way for "efficiency apartments". Ugh.

We've been dealing with a set of 4 buildings going up and ruining the view from our kitchen windows. If you look past our flag pinwheel sitting in our flower box, you can see some of this:

teatowel02.jpg

I decided to convert several tea towels into curtains, so that I could more cheerfully block the view that seems will be with us for a long time to come:

That's my pawsitive post for today!

I'll keep trying to look at the bright side!

I have been reading this thread often, and I appreciate all of the members' input here: you make a difference!
:clap2:
