@tabbytom Thank you!!!! :heartshape:This is the “REAL” cat site! :yess::clapcat: I am so very glad that my path brought me here! I think back to that night and it is truly inspiring that I landed here out of the maze that is the internet. I had NEVER joined any site but I was so moved by what I read here that I joined. THE cat site! I hope I have been giving back and encouraging. The kitties of Chez Catbird are part of this community and I cannot imagine that anyone could see their stories snd not be encouraged by them. All of the kitties on thecatsite encourage me! Cats are extraordinary! :lovecat4: It was a lucky day for me and for these kitties when we found TCS. :redheartpump:

@gilmargl Aww! We laugh together, smile together and cry together. I think many hearts are United here and we are never alone. Thank you. I think blessings are often needed here and I am grateful that you ask for that for us. I think he has been taking care of me because he has sent furry angels here. I hope you laugh a lot more and are blessed as well.:hugs:

rubysmama rubysmama I am glad to be back. I always miss being away. It just took me some time to rest and gather my thoughts. I knew that sharing the kitties had shared the laughter and then it hit me that we also shared the pain. That part had never been my intention but to see how much the kitties are loved really touched my heart. These kitties are TCS community kitties and not just the cats of Chez Catbird. They sure have gotten a lot of love!

Isn’t it neat how some things work to bring us where we need to be? Of the many times I had looked at cat things on Google, it wasn’t until that night that I came straight to thecatsite! It was the first time I had searched for cat help and I found it. One of the people here , somehow, noticed me post sporadically over a few months and made the effort to message me. That person encouraged me to return and, even though I felt I had little to offer and NO experience, that person gave me the encouragement I needed to return and write. I will never forget them and what they did for us. Now will I forget any other here. It changed my life.

The sky was beautiful blue the day BJ flew away. That photo was taken right outside the window where we had been sitting and enjoying the sunshine just minutes before. I was trying to take a minute before driving and just snapped the pictures without even seeing that anomaly. When I got home and looked, I saw that. I took many quick snaps there in the exact spot but only one had the “eye in the sky” appearance.
The washing machine really is broken. It went out in the middle of the chaotic week. I think it is the suspension arm that holds the tub up and in alignment. I just hope it did not bend the axel. Either way, I cannot fix it. Too heavy for me to lift and take apart. Maybe if all the kitties lifted at once? Lololol Heave Ho!
Happy New Year to all. Positive thinking! It will be a great year! ;):cloud9:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Banjo might do the repair but she will need all the frogs around here to help! Lol Cats are very good at accomplishing things we never dream they can do.
There are messages all around us. We just have to see and recognize.

pearl99 pearl99 Thank you! Good to be here. I totally think BJ is wearing a stylish cloud hat. It makes sense that Smokey would be there too. Showing him the way!

The dawn of a new day. A fresh start for the world.
So TCS helped you take in two more?!?! That’s wonderful! We do get a lot of ideas and help here.

@dustydiamond1:flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail::flail:
Purrfect! I love that! Little pink tongue too!

M maggiedemi Indeed! Onward and forward with friends who hang in there with us. Of course I want that!:hugs:
Kitty face ? Yep!

Anytime you need a flashlight to get through the dark, I’ll be there. That’s just what friends do. You don’t owe me a thing. It was done out of love. Also what people who love you would want for you. I’m very glad you are here! What would o do without you? :hugs:
No utility sink. Whatever washing machine o can find is what I may have to get. Many are on back order and I need one now if mine is shot. At this point, whatever works. Lol

Maria Bayote Maria Bayote It made me laugh too! Dear Banjo the tech cat!! I am praying for a great new year for us all. It was tough. Very. We are due for better days but you are right, we have each other.:grouphug::redheartpump:

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 He is that kind of cat and I think our escort for the future is watching over us.
Now I have an image in my mind of him dancing. Bj and Smokey on hind legs, in each other’s arms, dancing! :)
Of course not sure what's available to you, Jcatbird Jcatbird but in addition to the usual suspects amazon and eBay, we're fortunate to have a place here locally that sells reconditioned appliances. I haven't bought from them but since I don't want any planned-obsolescence computerized "smart" stuff in my home that I have to pay 10x the worth of and that I can bank on needing $$$ repairs or replacement, I will look there first when or if I need to. (The only "smart" ones there are the manufacturers. They rake it in while we peasants are at their mercy. No thanks!) Speaking of which, I decided to power up my last iPhone to see what I could dig up there (you know in re: to what/whom). Turns out there isn't a thing wrong with the phone, including the battery. I didn't need to get a new phone yet. At the time, though, I was getting warnings. More sub rosa business from one of the best in that business.:fuming:Oh well, it's an extra should I need one. The reconditioned vacuum I bought on the DirtDevil.com site is serving us very well. I'd never hesitate to buy refurbs from reputable sources.
Awww, *BJ and Smokey on hind legs, in each other's arms, dancing* conjures up a wonderful mental image!
M maggiedemi You're far from alone in wanting that Pollyanna effect. But we will get through "all of this" with the love of our sweet cats, the Help from Above, and our wonderful friends and community here at TCS! Have no doubt. It may be hard to envision, but the one constant in life is change, and you WILL have change in your life. Keep looking UP.:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

M maggiedemi Friends are great to have to give support but don’t forget that you carry some bright light yourself too! It is reflected in your kind heart.

Laughter comes in spite of everything else, or perhaps because of it. If we did not know the harder times we might not recognize what is funny! All kinds of messages are around us.

Don’t worry about showing the pain. We are surrounded here by people who care. They do not see it as a burden even if we hate to see them in pain on our behalf. We feel that way because we care about them but in like manner, that shows the depth of their caring for us.

Where do I wash litter boxes? I have a big metal washtub outside that can be dumped into the septic system.

I bet Demi dances when no one is looking. Somewhere private. Lol You know that song about dancing as though no one is watching? Demi dancing.

rubysmama rubysmama Those wipes sound wonderful! However………lol , do they come by the ton? Still, I might use some in a pinch. I will look for them.
Yes! We all need a shoulderor an ear at times. That kind of support is part of why we are here. The smiles are the bonuses.;)

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I had a very sweet visual of BJ and Smokey doing a kitty waltz together. She certainly wore the most beautiful, flowing silver blue gown. :lovecat:He in cloud top hat and, of course, tails/tail ?

My thoughts exactly on the washing machine. I want a powerful washer that does not skimp on water flow. Cat hair insists and I hear that the newer ones tend to do less “water blasting”! I never want to over use water but my old machine allowed me to scale up or down according to need. I also prefer things that I can understand the mechanics and , in some cases, I can repair them myself. This just happens to involve the heaviest part of the inner workings. I did consider using leverage but…. We’ll see if it can be repaired or what else is available. I have a company I used for many years when I took cate of rental properties. Hoping they will have something because they have always had great appliances. I will be calling them this week. Today I am washing clothes in a washtub! That still works!
Your old phone still works? Sly but maybe not so secret. These companies force us in one way or another to move to newer products. I find that extremely offensive but it is a disposable market. An acquaintance just told me that cars are coming out now that you cannot do much to yourself. We are getting used to being unable to work on the computer systems but they tell me you can’t even check your own transmission fluid! Arrrgh! There was a time when I could do all the general maintenance to my car as well as changing things like headlights, belts and other small parts. That is getting harder and often requires specific tools or moving other things to get to the smaller parts. If I lived closer to town, I might go back to a bicycle! I have friends on the island who cart their kitties around in bicycle carriages. I bet Lady would love being carriage driven. I think Banjo might insist on a motor bike though. Lol

Yeah on planned obsolescence being awful, not only for us, but for the planet and everyone else on it. You undoubtedly know about the cities in China where the US sends its ewaste. It pollutes their environment and it is slowly, or not so slowly, killing the inhabitants. And we won't even begin to talk about what it does to the animals. The water. The air. The soil. I know people want the latest, greatest, shiniest, most "advanced" everything. But at what cost? and most of them wouldn't care if they did know the true cost -- I'm not under any illusion there, because western culture and to a great degree others as well because of the US influence, push it every way possible. My last little iPhone, patiently charging here, was my first smartphone. Before that, I used non-smart phones until "they" forced us to get smartphones to access what we used to be able to access at a fraction of the price.
Washtub? Well, our ancestors used 'em and a lot of mine used the river and the rocks. Not convenient or easy, but it was what they had. Do you have a washboard to go with that tub? I have an attic crawlspace grill that would double as one, and yes, an old galvanized washtub hanging on a nail at the very back of the garage. IDK who it belonged to originally, but our family used and saved everything so I'm sure it has quite a history. My father's family lived outdoors for 9 years and I'm pretty sure my grandmother did wash in that tub. My dad always did all his own car work until everything changed and he couldn't. He wasn't happy about that at all. I still have all of his tools, which will last forever. For us, a car was a way to get from Point A to Point B. A radio, heater/AC and comfy seats were added luxuries to us. I don't need to watch movies, talk to anyone, or surf the web while I'm in a car. I don't drive but I do love watching the world go by. And if I want to talk to someone, there's always the other(s) in the car.
FURed and Ginger, eh? I don't doubt it a bit!
And yes, M maggiedemi , a kind heart in a community of kind hearts and MEWtual support!
My sense of humor has always been rooted in suffering and the overcoming of same. It's a thing a lot of my folks share, and not so common in the larger population, but there was one who understood it.

Hmmm. I don’t even want to get on my soapbox about planned obsolescence! :soapbox:I lived on that soapbox in younger days and I might fall off now. You know, I actually loved the items of the past and hated to see them go. Maybe I belong in a museum? Lol I think I could live there pretty well! If the cats would be okay and if an artifact is allowed to use the museum artifacts. I can remember my Grandmother just shaking her head when she was given a VCR. She had been fascinated when tv and then color tv came out. Why would you need more to watch? There were already at least three channels before cable tv! We were never bored as children. We had the outside world to explore. I am seeing more and more people living “off the grid” which seems a bit daunting to many but it is a return to nature that I admire.
I do know what you mean about finding a sense of humor about the hardest of times. That is a very fine quality. There are others who understand it. I think it depends on your understanding of what many have experienced compared to what others have lived. The majority of the world population is not one of wealth but those who have not been there or done that have no basis for fully understanding just how tough it can be. It’s kind of hard to compare types of suffering too. Some is very broad and some limited inside one dwelling or to one individual in a group. To maintain a sense of humor is something else I admire.
Speaking of sense of humor….. washing clothes this way is much harder but I like the bubbles! No washboard but I could certainly use one. The grill idea is a great one! I may have something along those lines! I once spent some time in a remote place and did wash clothes in the River. The ladies there taught me just how to use the rocks to best advantage. They had it down to an art form I could not match thought If the water was really clean, I would hazard a guess that in some ways their clothes were cleaned better than current washing machines can accomplish. The new washers use far less water than older ones and many have no agitator. Sooooo, basically just spraying and spinning clothes clean? IDK. I like my clothes being agitated? Lol

Bonjure may look like a tree dweller but normally he is a cave cat. He has new and exciting places to explore! Kodiak is such a small girl, she had to make a leap of faith to reach that spot! She did it though! Then she took the stairs back down.;) Stairs can be fun too.

Obsolescence? I just had to get a new phone because my 20-something year old, still-working flip phone isn't supported any more. It wouldn't be quite so bad if they included adequate instructions, but nooooooooo. They apparently assume that everyone has used smart phones forever, but they didn't calculate on there being dinosaurs like me still extant. By the time I figure the bloody thing out, I'll be too old to use it.

Well, Jcatbird Jcatbird and N NY cat man if we disconnect from the mass media and look around the world, including right here, we will actually find a lot of people don't subscribe to the "Trendoid" way of life. People of all ages and persuasions still do know how to think for themselves and look at the big picture, and some of the youngest people are actually extremely concerned about the world and those who share it with them, because THEY are going to have to live in -- they hope.

On obsolescence- I remember my mom had a Maytag washer that lasted for 35 years. When it finally gave up when she was in her 60's she decided not to get another Maytag (which was more expensive) since the washer would outlast her, and she decided to save some money on a GE.
Those commercials were right- Maytag repairman was the loneliest guy in town.
My TV and my laptop are both 10 years old so I'm getting good wear out of them! And my dishwasher is 18 years old and still going.

Trendoid? Me? I come from the generation where "Use it up, wear it out; make it do or do without" was still the watchword. I don't get rid of anything 'just because', and never have. Heck, I've got shirts that are over 20 years old and a couple of coats that are over 50 years old that I got new. I figure that, soon or late, the styles will come back around to what I have had all along.
Or maybe I'm just cheap.

remember, we worry more when you're not here
Okay, I'll remember that. :hugs:

once I found Petkin litter box wipes the problem was solved
Thanks, but that wouldn't work for OCD me. I need water, soap, and a whole lotta bubbles. 🧼

It may be hard to envision, but the one constant in life is change, and you WILL have change in your life. Keep looking UP.
This week I tried praying to Jesus. I figured maybe God was busy or I was doing it wrong. 🙏🙌

I have a big metal washtub outside that can be dumped into the septic system.
Too cold here in Upstate NY! We have 2 seasons. Winter and July/August. 🥶

I bet Demi dances when no one is looking. Somewhere private.
He used to dance on my stomach. But I'm trying to wean him from sucking on his blankie, I heard it's not good for him. 🤔
She certainly wore the most beautiful, flowing silver blue gown. :lovecat:He in cloud top hat and, of course, tails/tail
Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers! 💃🕺🎩

I have a company I used for many years when I took cate of rental properties
Awww man, wish you still had those rental properties! ;)

If I lived closer to town, I might go back to a bicycle!
Yes! I hope you get that house in town. We could be 2 old ladies riding around on bikes with our groceries.

It’s a private safe place.
Sounds like heaven. Wish I had a place like that. Maybe someday soon...:cloud9:

The new washers use far less water than older ones and many have no agitator. Sooooo, basically just spraying and spinning clothes clean? IDK. I like my clothes being agitated?
Awww man. I hate agitators!!!!!! The bane of my existence. The new front loaders are so much better. They are water savers & they clean the clothes perfectly. You'll get used to it & love it, I promise. I'm the opposite, I LOVE newer technology, recycle the old. 👍

new and exciting places to explore! Kodiak is such a small girl, she had to make a leap of faith to reach that spot! She did it though! Then she took the stairs back down.;) Stairs can be fun too.
Ha! I'm sure there's a great metaphor for me in there somewhere. Take the leap, then relax and enjoy? ;)

I've got shirts that are over 20 years old
I didn't buy any new clothes for 20 years because I was so sick. But I got a whole new wardrobe with my stimulus checks when I lost weight. Funny I didn't lose weight until they forced me to eat at the hospital! Ironic. :dunno:

N NY cat man My family was like that and so am I. Except I've probably got clothes that are older than yours. :insertevillaugh: One sweater from college days, definitely. Some from not long after that. A Pendleton that someone gave me that's ??? old. Probably belongs in a museum. Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! And as for "cheap," it's a fairly well known fact that the truly wealthy stay that way because they are very careful with their money. No less an icon than Warren Buffett still lives in his family home. Zuck used to be quite frugal, though he seems to have turned aside from that as he has from other things that were important to him :sigh:.
pearl99 pearl99 My parents' washer and dryer are Maytag, as is their refrigerator. All are working just fine for me.
M maggiedemi Far be it from me to proseletyze or interfere in anyone else's beliefs, but in my life experience and study, I have found that there is One Creator, whatever name one chooses for Him/It, and we can never know much, but I do know that there is no argument in my mind between that One Creator and the scientific "big bang theory". The Creator is not a big white man with a big long white beard sitting in a throne among the clouds somewhere. I do have a personal god, but it is not like that at all. Far beyond that. And it is not along the lines of, "If I do the right thing, I'll be rewarded and if I do the wrong thing, I'll go to a very hot place." The Creator of all things would not be so petty as to create finite, flawed beings and then consign them to eternal damnation for being finite and flawed, after all. And for me, it's not "Oh, if I say I'm sorry at the end, all will be well and I'll pass through the pearly gates." We are here to serve the Creator, which definitely means doing the best we can by our fellow living beings -- of all species -- and trying not to do things to hurt others -- or ourselves. I pray a lot. But within those Prayers is "Not my will, but Thy Will." We cannot know what that Will is, but I believe we have a very good clue from what most religions count as central to their ideologies and what Christians refer to as The Golden Rule. Beyond that, it is excellent advice to "let go, and let god." :hugs:

I still have some clothes from high school. Mostly shirts and dresses. But I probably need to go through and get rid of some clothes, because I don't wear all of them.

I can be frugal, but it's also nice to have new things once in a while. It makes you feel more worth it, I guess.

N NY cat man I know! Give me instructions please! My brother thought it was hilarious when IPods came out to give me one and then leave! Not one piece of instructions! Ha! Before my brother got home I had located the instructions online and had it playing music when he called to laugh. He was impressed and, honestly, I surprised myself too! I do not like anything without instructions! Lol I can tell you the “IPhone got Dummies” book saved me! That and Banjo. She can work anything! The book explains a lot but not everything. I called tech support a LOT at first. Very kind to us dinosaurs! Most tech support people have not lived as long as I have had service with the company. They seem to find that interesting and are very helpful. Nice young people. YouTube has video for almost every gadget too. Also helpful. I loved my flip phone and would still use it if they supported it. It still works. 🦖You are not cheap, you are efficient! Smart!

pearl99 pearl99 I have never had a Maytag but have heard how great they are. I have a verrry old TV. The cable company had to figure out how to make their converter box work with it. I like it! The cats can’t knock it over because it weighs so much. A friend had a flat screen and his cat tried to walk over it. It crashed! The cats here love this TV. Nice warm place for a nap. All good by me! Waste not, want not.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I know that you know that I am not into the latest and greatest. Everyone here has seen my house. Lol I like the way things were less stressful in some ways in days gone by. If the phone rang and no one answered , they called back later. If you wanted to make a call, you sat near the wall. Lol pluses and minuses as we go along. I have cherished young ones in my life abd they do hope for a better world. Many are right here on TCS and are current and future cat rescuers. May the world do well in their capable hands. As for clothes….. lol, I have a coat that was my Grandmothers. All weather and well made, vintage is always a good choice. ;) I love that coat and have worn it much of my life. I don’t know what it cost originally but I suspect the family got its money’s worth out of it.
M maggiedemi Yes! We all worry when you are not here!

I like bubbles too. Lol

I do not think you would ever pray wrong. I know your heart. Searching for answers or help and learning as we go is a very good thing.:hugs: Keep praying and keep that wonderful and kind heart. Trust that things may not go as quickly or on the path we imagine at the time but do trust. We walk together in this life. I will pray for you too.

You have two seasons, Winter and July/August! Brr and I can’t decide whether to shiver or laugh! Lol
Awww, Demi! Purry sucks on my arm! Ouch!

I like that. Fred and Ginger.
I am sure you will have “that place.”

Hey, got a deal for you! You can do the wash and I PROMISE I will never agitate you!;)

There is always a metaphor for you. Lol

I am glad you got those new clothes but sorry that you got so sick. Stay well!

Lari Lari I think it’s great that you still have clothes from school. Me too. Lololol Mine are probably older though. If you are like me, the first thing you toss is the one you find a real use for later.:lol: I do agree that sometimes we need a boost. New shoes! We need those for cat and baby dances!
For me , I love a fresh new paint job. It makes everything seem…… okay, it makes everything else seem old. But the walls look great!:flail:

What happens when you leave a nice warm spot to do a couple of chores?

You lose your blanket. Lol

How do you get it all back? You offer another spot.

Boy, the discussion on obsolescence made me think! I remember my favorite two cars. One was a Ford Country Squire station wagon. I bought it with 100,000 miles on it, drove it for another 200,000 miles, sold it still running to a man for a fishing car. He told me later that it finally gave out at just over 500,000 miles, and his kids were so upset that he put it up on blocks in his shed for them. The other car was a little Chevy Corvaire Corsa (sports version of the Monza that Ralph Nader talked about) that I almost literally drove the wheels off of. It gave up the ghost just shy of 300,000 miles. It was so low to the ground that I kept knocking the muffler off on back roads. The cops got to the point that they would spot me driving along, on my way to Midas Muffler, with the muffler standing up on the passenger seat, and just wave and laugh. Midas hated me. They had a guarantee, and I always managed to knock the darned thing off while they still had to replace or redo everything free.

I did not log in for a day and I have to catch up. LOL. Been under the weather since January 1. I tried to go to the doctor yesterday but it was like a movie theater with a blockbuster movie going on. People were all rushing to have PCR tests and boosters, so I had to come back to the apartment instead of falling in line. I could easily catch Covid-19 from that crowd. But I am a bit worried, too. Fever is still on and my cough is getting worse.

Jcatbird Jcatbird the kitties are hilarious and yet so endearing. Makes me always smile when I see the babies. :)

Everyone, we are all here for each other no matter what. Many of us may not know each other personally but its ok. When one of us isn't feeling well, or in absentia, we all worry. We are bonded by this thing called cats? LOL.

Be safe and well, peeps. We have families that worry over us, friends who love us, cats (and dogs) to rescue, and individuals to extend help to. In short, we are important. :)

God bless everyone.

I don't want any planned-obsolescence computerized "smart" stuff in my home that I have to pay 10x the worth of and that I can bank on needing $$$ repairs or replacement
Agree! I do have a smart TV though, so that after football season I'm going to give up my cable TV (I get absolutely no TV reception over the air due to a mountain nearby) and just watch a couple streaming things.
The refrigerator I got a couple of years ago has no on-the-door water or ice dispenser, no in-the-fridge water dispenser (what's wrong with using the faucet??), no smart stuff- just plain. I did get an ice maker in the freezer though. But I really didn't need it...

Laughter comes in spite of everything else, or perhaps because of it. If we did not know the harder times we might not recognize what is funny! All kinds of messages are around us.
Both in spite of and because of! Working in healthcare we had to laugh when things got so sad or ridiculously impossible. Then in life I've found paying attention to all the little things that are good is life changing. They are really the big things in disguise.

I figure that, soon or late, the styles will come back around to what I have had all along.
That's me and bell bottom jeans/pants from the '60's. Love them. Don't care if were out of style. I find them at the thrift store if need be.
