M maggiedemi I am not properly dressed unless I'm wearing fragrance. My only problem is that sometimes the bees like me too much. *I am NOT a flower.*:daisy:
Jcatbird Jcatbird My mom used to visit relatives who had no indoor plumbing and she said the same thing. They'd all trek out to the back before bedtime. Between then and morning, it was the pot or nothing.
Oh, yes, the mirror frame and the wall sconces! My mom would say it looked like a French wh0reh0use (do they look different over there? LOL) I guess they had money to spend in those days, even though the ticket prices were so much lower than they are now! They still have Ivory soap, but it is too harsh for me.
What a beautiful dresser! and it looks like Banjo is very alert and paying attention to how to catch that bird!

N NY cat man That sounds like a good idea actually. Lots of critters like to visit those places too! Down here the rat snakes tended to visit. The walk from the house to the loo could be intimidating as well. Run back to the house! Lol

M maggiedemi You would not love that.
The fainting couch really was for fainting. Back when corsets were tight, a lady might become faint. Etiquette in a restaurant meant eating light too.

I still like to wear perfume but I only wear it if I am going out now. No point in attracting bees! Lol I’ll leave that for th Flowers. ( And not the four legged one!)

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Fortunately those catalogues were massive. They came several times a year too. Still....lol

The theaters were quite an event back then. When I was very, very young there was a nickel matinee an Saturday afternoon that we loved. The shows were always, “to be continued.” The seats were filled with children. I don’t remember seeing adults there. Attending night shows was a very different atmosphere. Everyone dressed up and few children were there then. Once in awhile we were included. My brother took me on the bus to the city during the day once to see the first Batman movie. I was very nervous that we would get on the wrong bus. Lol I was 6 and he 9. I still don’t know how he convinced our mother to allow that. Very big deal! During my teen years my best friend and I went to the theater together. We would babysit to get the money because by then the tickets were 50 cents! A fortune for us! I remember going to see a few things in particular. One of the later movies was “Bless the Bests and the Children” we both cried at the end. The last time I went to that small town theater was after Sarah was born. One last visit to see Star Wars. The theater was still decorated as it had been the first time I went there. It’s still there in that small town.
Going to the theater here now is still a rare event. I haven’t been in many years. The last thing I saw was “Forrest Gump.” Lol Funny but the seats are still upholstered in theaters in that same red color.

That dresser? It’s old. Very neat construction. I suspect it was made in a small community. Victorian era if you judge by the dovetail joints. They are scalloped. It’s the only piece I have seen with scalloped dovetails.

I have all my photos in my external HDD (digital ones). Those that are prints have already been scanned but it's stuck in my crashed iMac   Maybe I'll rescan them if I'm up to it. The rest I won't bother because it's been lying around for centuries in albums and I never taken a glimpse of them so I guess those photos are the ones I don't miss.
Alas, in those days there were no digital hard drives...and ALL of the photos were print. Almost no one had a digital camera yet. SIGH...shoulda made time to scan.

Yep, those days digital cameras are not around yet. It's just rolls and rolls of negatives and slides.

I guess certain prints are already quite faded and probably some are moldy. Maybe just turn on a blind eye and show everything away.

My friend did make it for a visit yesterday. Yay! We spent the time outside. He was admiring some plants so I instructed him in how to dig up and pot divisions of a lot of my pet plants. He left with lots of treats. He also brought me a surprise. It might not be what a lot of females would enjoy as a gift but I found it very interesting. We share an interest in prospecting for rocks, fossils and artifacts and he found a most interesting iron rock for me. Lol It remains outside for now.

To anyone interested in preserving old slides, prints, climate control and no light! I have a dehumidifier and a dark cool closet for the ones of sentimental value or historical significance. I guess I really should make digital copies and donate the historical stuff. Some historical items are already on loan to a museum in the city. Antique clothing mostly. I would never want to try and preserve that stuff. I know it’s interesting and beautiful but not something I would try to keep. If they ever return it, what on earth would I do with it?!?!?! The main item is an antique ball gown covered entirely in faceted leaded beads! M maggiedemi Gowns like that brought fainting couches into being. How did ladies survive wearing things like that?

rubysmama rubysmama My violets have produced seed pods! I missed the vaulting of the seeds but here is the pod after opening. Each arm held
a row of tiny round seeds.

I had a couple in bloom, IN MY LAWN last week, and thought of you, as I dug them out. Guess I should have waited for the "vaulting of the seeds". Then again, maybe not, if my goal is to rid the lawn of them.

I also have a “Lady Slipper” orchid open!
Oh, so pretty.

To Jcatbird Jcatbird and all the other Moms out there, both of humans and furbabies, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY !!! :catlove:

Yes, rubysmama rubysmama -- seconding your good wishes!
Jcatbird Jcatbird The lady slipper is beautiful -- I've only ever seen those in photos. We have violets here and I've never seen them throw seeds, but I do love them! Mom did, too. Her sister was named Violet but she didn't use that name.
Yes, Banjo -- hunting and guarding is hard work!

tabbytom tabbytom O thought you might like the orchid. The fuzz showed up nicely with the flower back lit. :camera:

rubysmama rubysmama I knew you’d be pulling up the violets. That’s why I took the photo to show you the spring activated pod. Lol You could try putting some violets in a flower pot though.
Darling picture! Thank you for the Mother’s Day wishes! :redheartpump:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Thank you too! I love the name Violet. I named one of the feral kittens Violet and another Iris. Maggiedemi helped with the names.
Banjo knew you would understand how hard she works around here. Exhausting! Funny but watching her yawn made me start yawning too. 😮

The Slipper orchid is one of my favorites. Fairy shoes, according to grandmother.🧚‍♀️

This post is fabulous and it brought tears to my eyes and I want to thank you for all you did and are doing for these kitties. It's people like you and many others that share the same goal and love and unselfishness and time and finance so that all these kitties have a comfortable home to live in and enjoy what their lives are meant to be.

I can only purraise a little heart to you and the kitties in your post but I'm giving you more than that

Beautiful hearts from someone with a beautiful heart. Thank you! I have been so honored by these kitties and so many more to be included in their clowder. All the little faces and purrsonalities are forever in my mind and heart. It has been an eventful time and I wouldn’t trade one second of it. Even the nights when I waited and could only hope for the kitties to appear, the sight of each one made my heart soar to new heights. With each one brought in, I was ecstatic. One more safe. I have gotten more than my share of love but I cherish each second.,I’m glad some were able to find homes and glad some remain with me. They are my babies in every way. They may be all grown up now but I still see my little kitten faces in each one. I always will.
Thank you for the hearts. Beautiful and meaningful. 💞 I hope everyone finds hearts under fur.

That's a really good idea! The ones in my lawn are tiny, and because I either dig them out, or mow over them, they don't ever grow large. However, I had one violet hop into my flower garden, and was amazed at how big the little plant grew! Thanks for the idea. I'll post a pic if/when I get one planted.

The main item is an antique ball gown covered entirely in faceted leaded beads! M maggiedemi M maggiedemi Gowns like that brought fainting couches into being. How did ladies survive wearing things like that?
And with their waistes cinched down to 20" in a corset! No wonder they needed fainting couches!

This is a good reminder. To see people/animals as their hearts. ❤
It is. That's why I've always loved the air transport's habit of listing passengers as "X number of souls on board."

Jcatbird Jcatbird , thank you for that look back at your babies when they were babies. So many precious lives saved!

My cats have never been "kids" to me, always beloved feline family members, and yes, each and every one is so precious, with an indelible place in my mind and my heart. Big Blue lummox cat is doing his laptop thing, while beside us is a little black-and-gold croissant. A beautiful tuxedo with huge green eyes got brushed a few minutes ago.

So wonderful, Jcatbird Jcatbird , to see all of those baby pix! A huge project for my future might be scanning all of my 35mm photos going back quite awhile...
