You should send her lamb chop or favorite blanket with her for company.
They advise against it as they can't promise it won't become lost. Especially blankets as the techs will change them out pretty often. On the other hand I may need her Lamb Chop or blanky to comfort me. I am a momma grizzly.

Glad Jaspurr is feeling better. I find it distressing to think of my Mercy in pain. This was the earliest I could get her in with this vet. I'm also glad the vet who seen her for her little ER run pointed it out and the regular vet offered a free consult and then took it a step further to have a special specialist take a look.

My poor little baby.. She's been through foster, shelter, adoption, shelter , adopted by us and now we have to leave her there for the day. I know it's nuts but I just hope she doesn't think we're leaving her too.
thank you! i can understand that. it took between one and two months before our jaspurr had his dental work done. there were two reasons for the wait (that worked well together for me). jaspurr had is annual physical and distemper shot appointment scheduled in may, and the vet wanted to give some time after he had the distemper shot before doing the dental work. and the other reason is that i needed some time to budget for the remainder of the estimated cost of the dental work -- $800-$1200. it turned out, when they did the dental xrays, that jaspurr only needed three teeth extracted so the total ended up being a little under $600. and i do think that my boy was feeling some discomfort by the time the actual dental work was done. looking back, jaspurr was drooling a little -- which he's no longer doing. so i think it's pretty normal to have to wait to get them in.

it sounds like you did the same as i did, the vet noticed a dental issue and we did what needed doing to get it taken care of for our babies. i know that my vet's only does surgery/procedures two mornings each week, and those slots fill up pretty far in advance. it also sounds like you have an excellent vet! my vet's are excellent too.

i was there at my vet's the whole time while my boy was having the dental work done, just dictated by my circumstances. and the last thing i told our jaspurr as the tech was carrying him in his carrier to the back was, 'i'll be right here the whole time, waiting for you'. i'm sure your little Mercy will know you'll be back to bring her home after her dental work. i believe they can sense this kind of thing.

I'm going to inquire what order Dr. Nolan will be taking the appointments in. If Mercy is up first then we'll likely stay in town and wait. I want to see the new Independence Day film so maybe that would kill a few hours. It's such a long drive back and forth.

One of the great things about this vet is she understands how insecure we are right now about allowing any treatment for our cats and is not in the least offended or challenged by it. That's a sign of real integrity and character to us. It doesn't hurt she's well trained in veterinary procedures. Even more impressive with all that expertise she didn't feel it was out of her way to consult with another expert.

I'm so glad Jaspurr, I love that name is doing well. Mercy shows no obvious signs of pain but cats hide it so well.  Thank you for sharing with me. It helps.

that makes sense! i think it was close to 7 or 7 1/2 hours from arriving at our vet's with jaspurr, until we left to go back home. we probably could have left 1 1/2 hours earlier, but our vet sat down with me and showed me the xrays and discussed everything including aftercare and any questions i had -- then i called the taxi and waited about another 25 minutes for it to get there.

when it's such a long drive like that, i think it makes sense to plan your day around it...make a day of it. seeing a movie sounds great, and you could do any shopping you'd need to do while in that area too. then there's lunch -- i brought my lunch with me, and ate it sitting outdoors at the vet's.

Mooks cleaning was so fast but they still held her for quite a while to make sure the anesthesia had worn off and she was OK. We'll probably have to wait on the vet after today so she can explain what they had to do and probably pain and antibiotics. Her blood work was perfect.

i'm not sure, but maybe when they have the anesthesia for longer it takes longer to wear off? i know that our jaspurr was under anesthesia for over two hours, maybe closer to 2 1/2 or so. our vet told me she'd taken jaspurr to a room and made sure he was able to walk relatively stably before she was comfortable releasing him to go home.

great! that your Mercy's blood work was perfect.

I'll be saying prayers for Mercy while I'm at my doctor's appointment.  Be sure to update us, although I'm certain all will be well.  In fact, I insist on it.

Sending best wishes and vibes that Mercy's dental tomorrow goes smoothly.   She is young and healthy - I'm sure everything will go well.  She'll be back home where she belongs before you know it.

And on that note we'll be thinking of you @Mamanyt1953. Be well

I chuckled at this one. It sounds like Mercy. Except she chatters more.

Sending
for Mercy and for you. She's a tough little kitty, just like her mama!

We are hoping she won't be too sore. She's such a good girl. She now sits on my lap while I tip her claws off.  of course like a couple of nuts we feel bad leaving Mook home alone all day.

Without a doubt this is going to take a bit longer. Her medical records show she came though her spay just fine.

we'll be thinking of you and your Mercy tomorrow! and sending
for a smooth dental procedure, and that little Mercy heals well and quickly!

btw -- while there waiting for our jaspurr to be ready to go home, i heard the very strange sounds the three dogs who underwent procedures that morning made as they were slowly coming off the anesthesia. jaspurr made no sounds, and i think the strange doggie sounds added to his 'surreal' state of mind.

Mercy was out of surgery by 10 AM .  Dr. Nolan said she is doing wonderful. We're looking at a three week healing process where she is to have soft food only. I really hope this gives us a chance to get dry out of the menu. Mercy loves her Nutro.

She reminded me about a dozen times last night she had no kibble. I heard the treat traps being bounced around. This morning she was beyond pitiful. Then to make the morning perfect she ate a bug she'd played with the night before. I chose not to mention the insect consumption. We can have her back around 3-4 pm. The vet called while I was driving so hubs answered my phone so mostly he just let her talk. he didn't hit speaker but it sounded like the procedure was successful.

Well, what a relief to have that over with!  Poor Mercy.  Forced to fend for herself when Mom and Dad cruelly sent her to bed with no dinner.
I'm really glad to hear all went well.

I"m so glad I got that senior discount at the shelter on her adoption. That 10 dollars we saved is really going to come in handy with the 1000 dollar bill to fix my kitten's front teeth...LMAO.

Oh my. I thought Mercy had insurance? Or doesn't it cover dentals?

And YAY! for it going well! I'm totally :lol3: over the bug consumption this morning. Reminds me of when Pea-Pea decided to eat a dust bunny the morning of her spay.

Yes we have insurance but it doesn't cover dental or wellness.  For 25 bucks both my cats are covered for thousands should they get sick or hurt. The added cost of wellness and dental is not much different from paying out on our own.  We choose a sustainable policy that comes out of checking and is never missed.

I'm the same way. I can cover hundreds easily but thousands would really hurt...so i have a high deductible ($500) pet insurance. Seems to be a good value because it's only $15/month and there's no coverage cap!

What insurance do you have?  If you don't mind me asking.  The only ones I've heard of require up front payment, then they reimburse you after you send them the bills and the vets notes.
