Note about Bird Flu from the CDC - it is safe to eat properly handled and cooked poultry in the United States. The proper handling and cooking of poultry and eggs to an internal temperature of 165˚F kills bacteria and viruses, including HPAI A(H5) viruses.

for that reason I will try to remember to put future updates about the bird flu in other animals not the foodie thread.. be prepared to pay more for eggs and chicken because companies can ask for increased prices and point to the bird flu as a reason

Abbott - more information of how things came to be

In 2020, Abbott Laboratories’ net profits were in excess of $7 BILLION, an increase of more than 57% over the net profits of the year before.
Between September 2019 and January 2022, while the corporation’s profits soared and Abbott Laboratories plowed billions of dollars into a stock buy-back program, maintenance and quality control issues at Abbott Nutrition’s Sturgis plant snowballed.
The early warning signals were evident during the FDA’s 2019 annual inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility,

Included below are complaints made to the company and the company's responses. eleven sick babies, one dead. Note the investigation began in 2019 the recall was February 17 2022. Did any babies get sick between 2019 and Feb 2022? Why was there no inspection in 2020? The article mentions but doesn't investigate.

Europe Spain - Saffron and olive oil fraud discovered in Spain
The Guardia Civil found a group was selling modified gardenia extract from China as saffron across Spain. The harvest price of saffron is 10 times more than gardenia extract.
Operation Garden saw 11 people arrested and three companies investigated for crimes against public health and fraud. The probe was carried out in Malaga, Barcelona, Alicante, Granada and Almeria.

US- not a recall, but if you have antibiotic sensitivities you may want to take note.
It does not look like there is going to be any recall of mislabeled beef, but new studies do mean there is more uncertainty at the meat counter. The study findings, published in Science on April 7, mean a label claim that meat products are “raised without antibiotics” or RWA may not mean much either.

Brazil -
Brazilian officials have allowed a brewery to restart production at a site that was the source of contaminated beer linked to the deaths of 10 people in 2020.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) confirmed Cervejaria Backer was permitted to resume production and sale at the factory in Belo Horizonte this past week.
In January 2020, MAPA closed the brewery after testing identified the presence of diethylene glycol in several batches of Backer beers. The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) also banned the sale of some Backer beers. Ten people died and dozens of others were affected with symptoms including blindness and facial paralysis.

US - and this warning is slightly better than some, at least, they say they think it's from chicken, but it's pretty vague right now. So be super careful with your chicken.

The USDA is investigating a new Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak but little information has been released.
Chicken has been identified as the possible source for the pathogen, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service.

Europe France - not a warning an update

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES) identified the types of unpasteurized milk cheeses on which to target efforts.

In France, over the past decade, 34 percent, 37 percent and 60 percent of outbreaks of salmonellosis, listeriosis and E. coli infections have been linked to raw milk cheeses.
