Europe - Poland -
An outbreak of trichinellosis due to consumption of sausage made from wild boar meat that was not examined for Trichinella was reported in Poland in December 2020. ... People who consumed the same meat but in the form of steamed sausage did not have any symptoms of Trichinella infection.
Sausages were produced at the beginning of autumn 2020 by the hunter. The product was smoked but the core temperature did not exceed 35 degrees C (95 degrees F).
Untested meat The hunter initially said sausages were made of roe deer meat, and later claimed he used wild boar meat that had been tested for Trichinella in the veterinary laboratory in Leszno. However, the lab had no records of such samples.... *

from a different article: sources of trichinellaL

Trichinella parasites can infect a wide range of animals worldwide. In the lower 48 states, trichinellosis cases and outbreaks have been caused by the consumption of brown and black bear, wild boar, and cougar; in Alaska, walrus and black, brown, grizzly, and polar bear; and in Hawaii, wild boar. Trichinella has also been detected in many other wild animals that are hunted, including coyotes, foxes, and raccoons. Coyotes and foxes have not yet been implicated in any reported trichinellosis cases or outbreaks, but there has been at least one reported case attributed to the consumption of undercooked raccoon meat.

US corporate food production reaches new heights of carelessness.

More than 20 children in New Jersey were taken to the hospital this week after drinking milk contaminated with sanitizer.
The cartons were accidentally filled with the sanitizer at the production plant, according to a post on Facebook from the Camden City School District. ... “It was determined that the substance found in the cartons is a non-toxic consumable sanitizer that runs through the vendor machines prior to milk.
“Thankfully, everyone who was exposed to the milk is in stable condition and either back at school or home,” Nwako said.

This makes one wonder if the metal and plastic found in food in other recalls is from a lack of maintenance, meaning the increase in prices have gone where? I guess we know where it hasn't gone. my comment.

US - Health officials in the United States are warning consumers not to eat raw oysters harvested from a specific bay in British Columbia, Canada, after linking norovirus illnesses in Minnesota, Washington and other states to the oysters.

Warning Minnesota -
State officials are warning consumers to not eat certain romaine lettuce because the Cyclospora parasite was found during sample testing.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is telling consumers to watch for coding “22RHDM2L” and a harvest date of “Mar10,” grown in Coachella, CA.

Europe - chocolate problem update -
Nearly 100 people are thought to be affected in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. Italy is also checking if some of its analytical results are connected to the monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak.

EU shellfish ban -
A ban has been extended in Europe on some shellfish from Turkey until the end of 2023. The European Commission made the decision despite a favorable on-paper assessment of measures taken by Turkish authorities.
It means imports of live and chilled bivalve mollusks, such as clams, oysters and mussels, originating in or dispatched from Turkey are not allowed. This is in part because of their very short shelf life ruling out testing at the EU border... member states reported non-compliant consignments originating in Turkey which were not meeting microbiological standards.

Warning if you go to the Foodsafety site the opening page is from a chicken slaughter house and is somewhat disturbing. The individual pages listed above are not.

Canada - Enoki mushrooms recalled after CFIA testing finds Listeria.

Europe - Germany - reminder - Wild garlic warning
The BfR has also warned about the risks of confusing edible and poisonous plants.
Wild garlic is increasingly popular for seasoning foods such as soups, sauces, and salads. When the season starts in spring, many people go foraging for the plant in forests. However, it can be confused with the poisonous lily of the valley and autumn crocus.

US - FDA steps up import enforcement because of pesticides, Salmonella and Listeria (the mind boggles at what pesticides the US/FDA finds disturbing)
