One of my cats got this way when he became constipated. If that's a possibility for your cat, my vet recommended metamucil, probiotics and/or fiber (psyllium husk) added to his wet food, which definitely helped.

I had some success with Cosequin for my arthritic cat. I mixed it into a small amount of wet food with added water & she never knew the difference. It truly did help her, so it's worth a try if your cat is receptive to it.

Re: feeling bad for 3 pills/day - If you haven't already tried, I wanted to suggest mixing the capsule contents with a small amount of wet food & water. I've had success mixing probiotics & psyllium this way for my kitties, so it may be worth a try.

Also, just wondering did they think the liver looked like it did on ultrasound because of the lymphoma, even though it hadn't necessarily spread there yet, or did they have some other explanation for what was wrong with his liver?

I second the possibility of tapeworm. My kitten had it & I found out the same way!
