...cat that has many issues including IBS, hyper thyroid, myocarditis, high blood pressure, and FIV+. She recently has been diagnosed with rodentulcer and had laser surgery to treat it. A biopsy was done and it came back negative. It was healing but recently flared back up larger than before...
Looks like a rodentulcer, but you should see the vet to confirm. Rodentulcers, despite the name, aren't rodent related usually allergy driven. Which can be flea, food or plastic dish in origin.
I'd see your vet and change to a metal food dish if you use plastic to cover the bases. Vet will...
Hi. It looks like what they call an indolent ulcer; also known as rodentulcer (nothing to do with rodents). These ulcers are part of the eosinophilic granuloma complex (EGC) family. It can be caused by bacterial build up on food and water dishes, especially if they are plastic since plastic is...
...him, and that is when I noticed it looked a little pink and swollen. I googled what it could be and saw it could be something called a rodentulcer. Today I noticed it was more swollen, and now I see a black spot on his chin. This makes me think it could also be cat acne. He was using a...
...diagnosed it as rodent ulser and treated it as such. Sent out a biopsy which came back negative. But the actual disease is not rodentulcer it is feline sarcoid or fibropapilloma (fibropapilloma virus induced fibroblastic proliferation). My understanding it is a benign type of tumor. Only...
...granuloma. I would get your kitty to the vet for a check up.
One form of eosinophilic granuloma is sometimes referred to as a rodentulcer (nothing to do with rodents). Here is an article about condition, which is very much treatable...
...of EGC is a steroid......that will both reduce the inflammation and put a lid on the immune response which is causing the reaction, the 'rodentulcer'. I haven't yet seen a recommendation for antibiotics.....unless a biopsy is done (the only sure-fire diagnostic). I've had one of those here...
...your cat in person. That being said, I can tell you what I think, and what I would do if this was my cat.
It doesn't look like any rodentulcers I have seen. A rodentulcer is actually eosinophilic granuloma complex. It can manifest in different locations on the cat. When it is on the lip...
This could be what is called a "rodentulcer". Could be caused by using plastic dishes, if you are doing that. By not washing his food and/or water dishes with soapy water daily, in case you are NOT doing that. Could be caused by an environmental allergy, or a flea allergy (just takes one...
...and welcome to TCS!
Is your kitten eating off a plastic or rubber dish? If your kitten is otherwise healthy, it looks like a rodentulcer and is a likely cause if your kitten is eating from the mentioned dish as chemicals in these utensils tends to cause rodentulcers. Other than that, an...
...doesn't look normal. I think you should send a picture to your vet. The lip looks swollen. It may be the beginning of something called a rodentulcer aka eosinophilic granuloma complex. It is a not well understood condition that cats can get, sometimes caused by an allergy. Of course, I don't...
It could be a food allergy or even chin acne. Are you feeding her from a ceramic or stainless steel bowl and washing between feedings? It could also be a rodentulcer or eosinophilic granuloma. I would definitely get to the vet for a check up and treatment.
My cat developed a rodentulcer a name I never knew until the vet gave me its name. The vet prescribed medication which my cat would not eat crushed in his food. These things do grow worse .....BUT ...at the consultation with the vet he explained the lip was troubled by a RodentUlcer ......AND...
...always a concern for squamus cell carcinoma. I personally have not seen EGC under the tongue. I have seen it involve the skin and as a rodentulcer, even as weird paw lesions, but not under the tongue.
Please keep us posted as to what the biopsy results are.
I have also seen it triggered...
@purrs123 - since Hazel already has another rodentulcer, see if you can get the vet to prescribe something over the phone, that you can pick up from them without a vet visit - assuming this vet is familiar with her history. I don't know how uncomfortable rodentulcers are, but if I had one and...
i have been using plastic bowls and washing every three days. i will start washing his dish every day. should i switch to metal? i have been worried about whisker fatigue so if you have any good bowls or feeders to recommend, that would be awesome.
we also just switched him to a new food, so i...
...to that growth near the rear molars as the cause of the foul smell. I don't like the sound of it.
However, your question relates to the RodentUlcer.
If I were in your shoes, I would be putting her story/your question to folks in one or more of the specialized online support groups - that's...
...abandoned. After spending some time with a foster mother I adopted them about a year ago. The daughter Daisy also occasionally gets rodentulcers, but she responds well to the cortisone, and for months she will be just fine.
I did the hypoallergenic diet for 6 weeks, and near the end of that...
Hi. It looks like it could be an indolent ulcer, commonly referred to as a rodentulcer (nothing to do with rodents, though). One of the causes can be from dishes that 'absorb' bacteria, such as plastic, even if they are cleaned frequently. If that is your case, change the dishes to ceramic or...
Hi,
I am also on this thread in hopes of finding out what works for rodentulcers. My cat Hazel (on the left in the profile pic) has been getting rodentulcers seasonally for a couple of years now. I tried Zyrtec and it had no effect. I tried a limited diet with novel proteins and that didn't...
