Hello everyone,

My name is Sarah. I am 29 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I have 2 cats Ate and Muffins. Ate is the oldest cat. He is 8 years old and Muffins is now 9 weeks. I have adopted a kitten after my beloved Beppie passed away in March this year. She was the sister of Ate ( they came from the same litter ) and was my little angel. I loved her a lot and she truly felt like my fury soulmate. After her passing I decided to get a new kitten. I thought it was a good idea to get a friend for my other cat and I was really exited. I think I may rush things too much because Ate don`t seem to like Muffins. He gets relatively close but when she tries to sniff at hem he hisses. In the meantime I decided to get another kitten to play with Muffins. I feel that she is missing another cat compagn and I want to give her a chance to socialise with another cat and befriend her. I came to the forum because I can use some tips and I also want to talk to other people who like cats. For the new kitten we don`t have a name yet. I chose the name for Muffins and now I wanted my boyfriend to decide the name of the other kitten.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to read all of your stories.

Hello and welcome to TCS. :wave2:

Condolences on the loss of Beppie. We have a Crossing the Bridge forum if you would like to write a tribute to her. RIP sweet girl. :hearthrob::angel::hearthrob:

About the new kitten(s), it's not unusual for an older cat to hiss at a new cat, or kitten. If you like, you can post a new thread about introducing them in our Cat Behavior forum, where you will probably get more "on topic" replies.

Meanwhile, here's a TCS article on How To Introduce A Kitten To An Older Cat | TheCatSite which may be helpful.

Welcome to TCS, to you, Ate, Muffins, and to Beppie, who joins us in spirit! And looking forward to meeting the little new one when he or she joins you.

Excellent advice from rubysmama rubysmama , those articles are good! Also, be aware that some hissing from an older cat is normal. It is, after all, his business to teach this little new upstart her manners, and let her know the rules!
