catloverfromwayback catloverfromwayback Please tell me you are not knitting it out of Ramen noodles! Apparently that is actually a thing!

I have decided to be ultimately lazy this year for Christmas. I'll be ordering my gifts from Amazon, and having them wrap them and ship them. The shipping is free, and the wrapping is very reasonable. Actually, a lot of thought went into it. Last year, I had everything shipped to me, then I measured everything, went to Walmart and purchased shipping boxes (not that expensive, but the cab was $16 bucks), brought said boxes home, wrapped the presents, boxed them, printed out address labels, then took a cab back to the Post Office to mail them. Stood in line FOREVER, paid a small fortune in shipping charges, then took the cab back home. I had the cab wait for me, due to weather issues...did not want to be stranding in heavy wind and rain, so the cab fare was nearly $35! I cannot do that again this year. The running around, and waiting in line almost did me in.

That makes me exhausted just reading about it. Kick up your feet.

And hey letting them do it provides a job for someone right? SIL, MIL, and I have probably saved a bundle plus time with our direct shipping and trading wrapping. We only do gifts for the kids anyway. Most things seem to get bigger once wrapped and boxes are never quite the right size. I use some shipping boxes and plastic totes to hide presents as they come in and play Tetris to get them in there. Then I’m afraid to wrap early and have stuff poke through the paper when I try to put it back.

I can usually avoid post office crowds by timing it right and going to the smaller one with a good parking lot. All of the downtown ones have tiny lots and it’s annoying. But give me easy parking and I’ll drive 2 extra miles apparently! Especially when I was hauling toddlers with me.

Thankfully, I only have 8 kids to buy for. The eldest is almost 20, so not a "kid" anymore and wants cash. and the six behind her are at the age when MONEY MONEY MONEY is a BIG DEAL! I only have to buy actual gifts for the 2-year-old, and for Briggs, who was born last February. Stuffed animals are the preferred toy for both!

I noticed knit/crocheted stuffed animals were a big seller at the craft fairs this year. My mom got several for the youngest grandkids. They were so soft too! Lots were dinosaurs and then I saw a lot if mermaids and sea creatures like octopuses (so perfect for baby hands to grab! :redheartpump: ). One lady had the cutest bees. And ears of corn that could come out of their husks!

My SIL tried to say I didn’t need to do gifts for the bigger kids. (18 and 20) I told her adult kids appreciate the cash more! I mean I sure miss the days my Grandma would press some folded bills in my hand and tell me to get myself a little something. 😩 😅 I send gift cards though. I have 18 nieces and nephews this year but we don’t all exchange gifts because that would be nuts. Toys are generally more fun; but I can appreciate the ease of the gift cards.

LOL, the closer Christmas comes, the quieter this thread gets. I can tell you are all (or most of you) hip-deep in plans!
Hip? I just sent a bleary eyed email to DDs small group leader because I missed the email she sent a week ago asking to respond by the end of the week (last week) if they can attend a tea party during next week’s meeting. 😵💫 I hope it even made sense.

Now I’m off for coffee so DD can make her batch of cookies for tonight’s “All Small Group Throw Down Competition.” Also to check her pjs are ready because they are supposed to wear pjs… Her group is wearing pjs and cat ears.

The shopping is done. All of the packages are en route to their final destinations. Cards went out on Monday. I am watching sappy romantic Christmas movies, this being the only time of year that I can tolerate sappy romance of any sort. AND it's kinda fun to see what American writers think foreign Princes are like...and their Royal Families. Occasionally, I choke on my popcorn from laughing so hard.

For somewhat sappy with a little bit of romantic I watched most of Miracle on 34th Street for the first time ever 😜
That's a great movie :) Which version did you watch, they remade it with Mara Wilson and the Jurassic Park dude in the 90s I think!
What's on my mind is an impending potential snow storm that might hit Thursday and Friday. Just in time for us to be full for Christmas. Taking dogs outside when it's 15 below zero and 50 mph wind gusts is no fun at all. I'm glad Livie uses her box reliably and doesn't have to brave that kind of weather with her little dime sized feet.

I hope it was the original, black and white version. That was the best one.

So far, I have watched:
White Christmas
The Bishops Wife
The Santa Clause
It's a Wonderful Life
Spirited-- from Apple TV. Very good. I enjoyed it.
A couple sappy movies from Hallmark--really, after a couple, I just cannot watch anymore.

I think I have a Pocketful of Miracles, and Donovan's Reef, to watch. And whatever I can find on streaming services.
Listening to a ton of Christmas music--- all different types.

Most of gifts are done..Just need another gift card...some cookies for Christmas Day, and a sweet doggie gift.. and perhaps a gift for Geoffrey. He has a ton in here, which I have never given him.

Coming down with a cough.. weird. Pray it is not Covid or RSV.. so much of it is in my building.
Going to have a pretty relaxing few days of straightening up around here, laundry, and relaxing with Geoffrey. I ned it. I have been running around and having. very stressful period in my life.
