Aldi’s is just amazing. I went to pick up carrots and celery for Thanksgiving and was shocked to see a baby carrots 1.99 a package at Cub, nearly $8 for the quantity I needed, and celery was $1.99 for a very light bag and I needed 2. Before I paid those prices I thought I would check out Aldi prices. Baby carrots, $.79 a bag, celery $.95. So instead of spending $11 at Cub, I spent $5.06 at Aldi. A more than 50% savings!

HA HA... The 'turkey' dinner I am planning is an" Italian" turkey. Garlic crusted medallions of Pork tenderloin with a mushroom gravy sauce... Some Pumpkin Risotto...
Having shrimp cocktail for appetizer... and ice cream for dessert--got rum raisin and chocolate!! Pig out time!
:flail:please load my plate with everything but the pumpkin risotto:biggrin:

Yes, I also pulled up the skin on turkey or chicken and massaged slightly softened butter, with some dried herbs, under the skin. It really made a ton of improvement in flavor.. I need to remember to do that now, even with a half of a bone in chicken breast or 1/2...

Yes, game misconduct game misconduct YOU are part of our family. ... ((Hugs))
I also add a bit of Italian sausage to my stuffing (as my grandparents used to do) which spices thing up a bit.

I miss having an Aldi's...a lot. One of the things I'm looking forward to about moving back to Chattanoog. One of the things I learned about Aldi's, though, is that their veggies can be "iffy." One week, they're great, the next, not so good. Or a few items will be wonderful, and the rest look like they fell off a truck and rolled in the store by accident. SO, I started hitting Aldi's FIRST, snagging up whatever was good, and then hitting another store for what was not. And yes, saved a ton of money doing that!

Speaking of stores and Thanksgiving...I do wish that stores would sell just one or two ribs of celery at the holidays. Many of us have small families, or don't normally use celery, but do want it for stuffing/dressing. I use celery salt, and it just isn't the same, but I don't want to throw away most of a bag of it!

One little gadget I bought some years back is a celery saver. It’s like a oblong Tupperware box with a tray at the bottom. If I buy fresh celery to cook with I will chop up and freeze the small and leafy inside parts for soups and stews. The leftover big sticks of celery go into the celery saver where they will stay nice and crisp for weeks and I can snack on celery and cream cheese sticks until they are gone.

I can find “snack pack” size bags sometimes here at Walmart. I’ve done that before for recipes. DD does like celery though so it may not go to waste. I also got a container of whipped cream cheese to stuff some for the relish tray. DH will like that.

I should probably check how what I bought this week is doing.

I may have made a new friend today. I was shopping at the thrift store and stopped to admire some great bookcases that just needed a bit of refinishing. Another woman was also admiring them and we struck up a conversation that went from furniture refinishing to she and her husband’s retirement plans. We were having such fun talking that after about twenty minutes we decided to exchange info and try to get together. This hasn’t happened in so long.

Love this!!! I started talking with a lady by chance and we just hit it off. 20 years later, we're still good friends!

After I came home from the thrift store I realized the two bookcases I had been looking at would work wonderfully in my dining room. Back to the Goodwill and now I have two bookcases in the garage awaiting refinishing in the spring.
Great find!!! I've found some cool stuff at thrift stores too, it really pays to take your time and look around!
