RIGHT, N NY cat man !!!
Yes, tabbytom tabbytom -- I want one of those, too!
Oh, Banjo, you are so creative and intelligent! And I think your shades look great with the background.
I am eating crow today -- me, a pretty-much-vegetarian -- because last night the new neighbors, who I think are the owners moved back in, had the party from absolute hell, going from afternoon until bedtime, and then after 3 calls to the cops, the first one of which was "lost" somehow, and the other two of which were far from what it would take to restore the "peace" that was "disturbed." It was horrific. Part of my aspy wiring is that I am very noise-sensitive and stuff like this actually makes me physically sick. My father was the same way. Anyway, it's over now but still wreaking havoc on my psyche and physical wellbeing, in spite of all of my mind-over-matter and Prayers. Work in progress. "Don't get angry! Don't get angry! Don't get angry!" The law is ineffectual and the neighbors are their extremely self-absorbed selves. Put a bunch of them together, along with a lot of carloads more, and the result is aural torture. Elvis was very upset by it, too. I'm sure my roomies were as well--haven't talked to them yet. And that loud vehicle that seems like it doesn't have a muffler? Yeah, that put in an appearance, too.

I want to explain that a smile post is a sort of stress reliever for caregivers , advocates and rescuers of cats everywhere.
I couldn't agree more! :agree:
Sorry I missed so many updates but I've been away for awhile visiting one our daughters who is studying abroad. We haven't been able to see her for quite some time due to the lockdown/pandemic/Covid. I missed her so very much but spent as much as time as possible with her.:hearthrob: I tried reading every post since I've been gone but there was a lot to catch up on. One thing that I could relate to were the bandaids in your pics from trying to give Banjo her meds. Lord knows how many battle scars I have from giving Carleton his medicine but I consider it a badge of courage. I hope Banjo continues to feel better. She looks amazing in her Foster Grants.😎

Maria Bayote Maria Bayote Glad Graham is back to her normal habits. 🤗 dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 Fingers crossed your move goes smoothly. :crossfingers: N NY cat man Nice progress on your house renovation.👍 Too many to list but to everyone else on this thread, hope your kitties and you are safe and well.😻

And last but not least, here is my smile stress reliever post of what Carleton thinks about our arrival home. :sleepycat:

Day Two of The Party From Hell. My rescued cat DOES NOT like the noise. Screaming brats, screaming adults, thump-thump-thump brain-dead music. :fuming:View attachment 425826
Usually, I'm in bed by 9pm, give or take, so the noise has yet to reach it's crescendo for the night. Too, there are a couple of nearby houses- in the past I have found expended rockets in the back yard- that shoot off massive amounts of fireworks each year. The cats act nervous, and the 'bed cats' seem to cuddle a bit closer. I guess that it's an instance where being partially deaf is an asset, because the cats seem to take their cues from me. Or not.

I have a sinus thing so sometimes my ear will plug up. But it doesn't last and my hearing is very acute.

Can you try a fan for the white noise effect for him and for you? Plus Cat Music?

Jcatbird Jcatbird I hope things are :lovecat3:
I sleep with a ceiling fan. But I can't sleep with music of any kind, and I have insomnia anyway. I will not take drugs or anything else. Our bedrooms are on that side, and that's where we work, watch TV and pretty much live. Shouldn't be the innocent people who have to make adjustments -- should be those in violation of the law.

I meant a fan that creates white sound, such as a tabletop or floor version. The sound that is created, the white noise, helps to mask the worst of the sounds. Or there are white noise machines that can be purchased. These suggestions and the Cat Music are for Elvis. :lovecat3:

For you, either ear plugs or this and there are other lists from a search for how to soundproof an apartment;
How to Soundproof an Apartment Without Opening Up Walls

In order to not hijack this thread, Jcatbird Jcatbird I enjoy, as always, your photos and little stories with each :)

TYSM, Furballsmom Furballsmom . I live in a house and the master bedroom is very large, but I've done most of those things except for the soundproofing which I won't do as it's ugly and I can't afford it. My ceiling fan does create white noise. We're talking VERY LOUD noise next door that nothing but a jackhammer would mask. And my rescued cat probably wouldn't want a jackhammer in his territory.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I am an insomiac too. My sleep disturbances goes beyond noise though. Have you looked into sound canceling ear buds for yourself? 7 Best Noise Canceling Headphones for Sleeping Through Anything — Soundly These are not that cheap, but they may help. My sister said they helped with her sleep. I stick to my A/C and sound machine which works on better days.

This ofcourse won't help Elvis. Have you talked to the others neighbors about this? Perhaps a concerted neighborhood effort would get these people to be more respectful and stop disturbing the peace, especially if the ignored your pleas. I had noisy neighbors in my last neighborhood and the police were called and they never came out. They listed quality of life issues as too low on the scale to bother over. 😡 The neighborhood was changing and not for the better (crime spiked way up) so we moved away at that point as it was a lost cause. My current neighborhood is not that noisy at night except for that Fourth of July craziness that made me worry over my ferals.

I hope you find a solution soon that you like and can afford. No one should have to lose sleep every night because of noisy neighbors. How I wish people were more considerate of others and the animals around? SMH.😬

Jcatbird Jcatbird Thanks for the lovely pics of Bonjour. It did make me smile. I am okay over here. We will have afternoon thunderstorms on Tuesday, but nothing out of the ordinary for us. Hope you have some nice weather down there and no major Hurricanes this year. 🙏 Hope you had a great weekend. Take care.

Take care everyone. 🙂

Neighbors never do anything. Unfortunately these people are RIGHT on the other side of my bedroom windows, a driveway's width away. So no one else hears it like I do, except my roomies when they're closer to their windows. Their hearing is nowhere near as acute as mine.
I can't afford those earbuds and they wouldn't work as I sleep on my side. I did get some latex-free earplugs as I'm very allergic to latex; I haven't tried them yet. I want to be able to hear normal ambient sounds, anyway. And I want to watch TV, listen to music, talk with my roomies, etc. I can't block everything off -- it would be impractical. I just need these people to stop, and start living like the rest of us in this neighborhood do -- quiet and considerate, with normal noise, no parties, and no screaming. They don't give a flying "f" about anyone else, though. This is a wealthy city and people have remarked how quiet it has been; but there is a demographic that has noisy parties, big families, and little if any regard for anyone else. They are known to be very aggressive as well. Not all of them, by any means, but quite a few. Unfortunately they make up close to half the population including most of the elected officials. So I don't really have much in my corner.

I have been there. Those people just don't care and you can't talk to them because they have nasty attitudes and will never give any consideration to their neighbors.

I will pray for you. I hope these neighbors either cut out this nonsense, move away or perhaps you are able to move. I had to move from my last neighborhood and poor quality of life was definitely the reason for it. I didn't think it would happen, but it finally did. Keep the faith. ❤❤❤

In my head I am trying to construct noise buffering of some sort, but, if you have a window, that makes it hard. I once had to sheetrock a wall three times and put SAND between one of the layers all the way up, for this lady struggling w/ next door noise. Someone someday will get a very interesting surprise when they open up that wall. I wonder if thick foam just for the window you could put up and take down, depending on the decibels, would help. It’s hard to think of solutions when you’re being deafened.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Oh no! I am so very sorry. I can’t stand that bump, bump music either. It travels and shakes the very earth below us. If there is a noise ordinance, around here it is by ten at night, the officers might tell them to turn it down. I have found that it did little good here. I find that partying is a problem because people might get to using things that dull their senses and close their ears. Best to talk when everyone is sober if possible. Nothing wrong with being upset and protecting Elvis! That is not eating crow. Power to protecting Elvis! If the bass of the music is the problem, I have not found a way to drown it out. I have a little bit of a wicked sense of humor and was often tempted to play opera when I knew they probably had a headache later BUT I never acted on that. It did make me smile to think about it though. I would suggest that you make a point of waving, smiling and acting like your world is fine. Then speak to them with whatever diplomacy you can muster when it’s clear that they can hear you. Oh….. my neighbor blew out his speakers being inconsiderate. Sometimes karma handles things. ;) Poor Elvis! Tell him it’s just thunder? Maybe it was just a “moving in thing?” I completely know the feeling. For a long time I had to endure it. Karma did get them though. In fact, an official got pulled in as well. Praying for peace to descend around you like a protective shield.

neely neely I am so glad you were doing something nice. How wonderful that you got to visit your daughter! Cat ching up on posts? Lol Not always easy here but maybe skimming for the highlights? Yes, bandaids mark new badges. Lol I love the smile post of Carleton! It looks like Carleton is super relaxed now that you are back. Been guarding the house? Thank goodness the hoomans are home! Snorggles Carleton.
Bonjour thinks that if he and Carleton snuggled, it would make for a beautiful picture. Not sure how Carleton would like that but it would be a big floof photo!

Banjo smiled. She loves her new glasses. Funny kitty!

strider rose strider rose I laughed a lot over Banjo and her new glasses. I’m glad you did too. Hmmm. I need to give Bonnie a calendar. On second thought, cats are always right. Every day here is Caturday! I should know that the cats are smarter than I will ever be!

Furballsmom Furballsmom The calming music for Elvis is a great idea. Hmmm. I wonder if it would work on the neighbors?🤔

strider rose strider rose Great idea and I am glad you care. I think that officials were called. The thing about that is that it only works with law abiding citizens being on the receiving end. Also, if people are a bit tipsy, they forget and the music slowly rises again or some person in the group just doesn’t care. Verrry frustrating and exhausting. Hopefully it was a one time thing.

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose I am so glad that you moved. That is not something that can done by some and that place should not be exposed this way. Solutions for things like this are difficult. I raised my daughter here, paid my taxes and paid my price to own a piece of agricultural land. I have rights and I had distance between me and the offenders but that kind of music carries long and far. It should be totally banned in residential areas IMHO as should large fireworks. Gunfire is banned in neighborhoods soooo why can’t this be enforced too? It is physically damaging. I just read an article about the toxic effects of fireworks. Heavy Metal particles permeate the air along with toxic smoke and other contaminants. They reach soil, water, humans and animals. Perhaps short term but it is now suggested that we “mask up” and stay up wind. If you Google it everyone from the some state DNR, National Geographic Society, cancer researchers, various Universities and environmental groups of many types are more and more concerned about the quantity of fireworks being used in our world. Too many people going to extremes. I read a bit of research done in China where firecrackers and displays are a big part of the cultural celebrations. There were supposed to be changes in wind, air currents, rainfall, air pollution and other environmental conditions during high festival times. A ban in a polluted city seemed to show a change for the better during the ban. IDK but everything in moderation? We should respect each other and the world around us. Very glad you got out!

Margot Lane Margot Lane I wish you could come up with something as a sound and vibration barrier! The sand is a great idea. Cork is something I use but it doesn’t stop the vibrations. My house literally vibrated. I often wondered how the people there stood the sound. Then it hit me. They have deafened themselves over time! Foam like that used in recording studios is great. Maybe those air filled bubbles that come in shipping boxes? That might insulate a window and save plastic from being put back in the environment ? I get a lot of those air bags. Ironically, the items shipped , cans of cat food, were still smashed. Quietly smashed? It is hard to think or do anything when the noise gets to you.
I am visualizing a wall being opened and sand flowing out! Don’t let the ferals know there is a giant sand box in the wall!!
