pearl99 pearl99 pearl99 pearl99 It occurs to me that "Aliens" might be the best answer to a LOT of questions!

"Why did the Democrats (insert anything here)?" ALIENS!
"Why did the Republicans (insert anything here)?" ALIENS!
"Who drank the last soda and didn't put it on the list? ALIENS!!!!
"Whose turn is it to take out the trash?" ALIENS!
"Did you drive my car and not put gas in it?" No, it was ALIENS!!!!
:"What makes cats go nuts at 3 AM? LOTS of ALIENS!
Most definitely. When I was little it was Mr. Nobody.

Chris Poole just put up a new video of Cole with Marmalade. We need more Chris Pools in the world--the world would be a far better place. ❤❤❤
Lovely video. Mooshoo greets me when I come home! She's the only one.

Oh my yes! Birds, old Atari games, Angels, dragons and sea serpents too!
The first one on the right I see a TRex doing a sit-up.

On Friday my mama cat, Tiffany, is due to be spayed. I hate taking cats to be neutered! I always have a bad conscience especially with females: it's far too soon, she needs her food, she's still nursing her babies. But the truth is the kittens are 9 weeks old and though I saw her lying with them once yesterday, when she's been fed she cannot wait to be let out of their room. Until today, she was perfectly happy spending time discovering the other rooms in my house. My cats were well aware of her existence as she has been living in the spare bedroom/my office with her kittens for 6 weeks. Three of them didn't mind at all when I let her out to investigate, even though she growls at them. The fourth one couldn't wait to welcome her and has even sneaked into her room to watch the kittens!
But this evening she started yowling after I'd given her her last meal of the day and closed the door. I let her out again but she immediately ran into my bedroom and attacked poor unsuspecting Mogi, the most placid of all my cats. Perhaps she's coming on heat so, before she escapes through an open door, it's probably time she was spayed. I'm thinking of shutting her in my bedroom (and keeping my cats out) after the op and only letting her into the room with the kittens when she either wants to go in there or at night. Her appointment is in the morning and I will pick her up at lunch time. Things will just have to go well so that by the evening she can go to her kittens. I am so short of space and, although I could theoretically keep her in the bathroom or kitchen, I am unable to ensure that people keep doors to these rooms closed. I'll be glad when it's over!

Tiffany in the living room escaped from her babies to play with a valerian cushion.

dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 What a wonderful walk Gypsy had there! What is that plant? It is absolutely gorgeous -- and with the birds as an extra added attraction!

I had a cat I took in to get tnred. She wasn't really showing because she was well feed, but she was within weeks of having kittens. Her sister just gave birth to a litter of kittens on my deck. I held the pregnant kitty in for a week, so she could recover and also that some of the Tom cats could be trapped in the meantime that would be bothering her. She did well recovering and when the week was up--I let her out. A week later I trapped her sister, who was not doing a good job taking care of the kittens. The kittens were taking in by a tnr crowd and eventually adopted out. I was so relieved that they were taken off the street in the nick of time and the females were tnred. I did feel guilty over the late spay, but I have seen too much tragedy out there and it made me feel better that there will not be any more kitties born on the streets. It was for the best. 😧

It is always very difficult emotionally and ethically, but I have made the same decision for exactly the same reasons and I would do it again in a heartbeat, for the same reasons. I hope this helps.

Well, exactly. I don't believe our Beloved Creator wants that, either, and that is an important reason why we have free will as well as intellect. We can alleviate the suffering by making sure it does not happen in a world where too many do not have loving homes and good care. I feel the same in regards to human family planning, and make absolutely no apology for that, either, BECAUSE I care about and for living beings.

I'm bewildered - never seen anything like it!
Today Tiffany was spayed. I took her into the vet's at 9 this morning, picked her up at midday.
I had planned to put her in my bedroom to recover (it's a warm sunny room), prepare a heating pad, place a litter box in there, close the door to keep other cats out, then boil some chicken for when she was able to eat again. And wait for her to come back to life.

What actually happened - she sat up and watched me drive her home. When I put her on the floor in the bedroom she sprang out of the transport box (a wire cage which opened at the top so she had to jump), ran out of the room and into the kitchen and started eating what my other cats had left in their dishes. She was in no way sleepy or wobbly on her legs. She noticed the chicken, ignored the cat food and, for the first time in her life, jumped onto the counter to get at the chicken breasts I had been planning to cook for her at my leisure. What followed was chaotic - I was trying to prepare the chicken, she was loud, energetic, head butting me, and jumping onto the counter. As soon as the thinner pieces of chicken were cooked I cut them up, cooled them down, and tried to give them to her slowly - but it was hopeless. One dish was not enough.

I spent the afternoon feeding her chicken on demand, letting her in and out of her room, where her three kittens were not sure whether she was friend or foe, and placing and removing litter boxes strategically in the hope that she wouldn't use my bed or go in any other inappropriate corner. My cats behaved admirably, probably thought we had both gone crazy. At 8 o'clock this evening, I'd had enough - I prepared another plate of chicken and cat food, and she followed me into her room where her babies had been running wild. I turned out the light and escaped leaving her there. Since then all has been quiet.

I hope:
  • she has a good night's rest
  • that her kittens leave her in peace
  • that her huge appetite this afternoon will not make her sick
  • but, most importantly, that running and jumping about like a kitten, will not affect her stitches and the healing process
I was expecting a nice quiet afternoon, watching my poor little foster mama-cat but she led me a proper song and a dance!

Apart from being a little concerned about her eating SO much SO quickly, I'm very happy to read this report! Each individual reacts to anaesthesia differently -- I was up and at 'em very quickly after one time under general anaesthesia that I can recall -- and it sounds like little Tiffany is feeling GREAT! Hoping her family gets beyond the OCS ("Other Cat Scents"/vet hospital/clinic smells) and welcomes her home soon. Hoping her stitches stay put and that she has no problems healing! Please keep us informed!:vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::cheerleader::goodluck::hangin::heartshape:

Oh my! It makes my heart full to come back and read so many wonderful posts! I must be quicker than usual but I will try to respond. Sorry to be so late with replies!
dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 Yes. I have used the unflavored Pedialyte. I usually mixed it with some water too. It was a temporary fix but for an emergency, it got us through. For kittens, in a pinch, there is kitten glop. I first read of that here on the site. I think a member Hissy may have first posted it. catsknowme catsknowme probably first told me about it. You can all probably find it via a site search on TCS.

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Beautiful piece about the moon! Just lovely! :cloud9:
I agree with the most beautiful cloud being the grey and white one. Or is that a cloud with a silver lining? ;)

Maria Bayote Maria Bayote Patchie is bigger but still that darling sweet one you first shared with us. I know that pinch on the heart well but also, know that this is a life you saved. You gave the best start a kitten could have and then be put on a path to a great new adventure and loving life. Patchie has a story to tell of the first loving human that held out hope in their hand. You are right though. It is the life of a rescuer. My hope for you is that the joy of knowing Patchie is now greatly cherished will help. Such a beautiful one!:hugs::heartshape::clap2: We may not heal but we are given a blessing by what we do. We know we preserved a precious life. They give us a piece of themselves to hold in our hearts as well. That is a great gift.
I see birds in the clouds too! That was my first thought. Then I thought I saw a cat that is bird watching in the third photo. Lol Makes sense to me!

pearl99 pearl99 I am so glad you answer the question about the pedialyte!! :clap2::rock: I like the moon poetry too.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 We do know the feeling of having to let go and rehome. It is never easy since a part of us goes with them. At least we know that they do carry some of our love forever. I think that gives them some of our strength.

I do love the plants you showed! My old eyes still recognize leaf shapes and general plant silhouettes. Lol I love the look of Bonsai and the traditions they carry but they are a lot of work. Orchids are soooo much easier. They don’t want pampering. They prefer to be a bit independent. I guess they are the cats of the plant world. Lol
The kitties here have songs too. We have a lot of music around here! The vet used to kind of laugh that I hummed or sang each cat’s song during vet visits but now they vet personnel all do it for them! I suspect that other cats that are boarded there get music now too. ;) I have heard singing in the back.

I love the pictures. Kitties love looking outside from their safe places. Floof Rani! Beautiful floof. King Nicholas was reluctant? Naw. Just star struck by beautiful. Lol
Baby Su!!!! So precious! Tuxies are always so adorable! Expressive.
Thank you for the prayers. Thank you!
Oh! So sorry I have not updated. My immune system has been fighting and it has caused me to need to focus my energy here. Pawpurrs human has had to leave and that has put extra on my plate along with waiting for each update on my brother. A lack of available supplies has delayed his surgery for now. I am making time to talk to my Dad a lot as my brother rests and waits. The kitties are all okay though.

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose Thank you about my foot. Working on it.
Love the greeting video! I had not seen that but it is so precious. Sometimes my kitties are mad that I have been gone, sometimes some get nervous and are in their safe spot but most of the time I get greetings. Around here, if you get greeted by everyone…… let’s just say that you better hold on to something or be prepared to sit on the floor. Lolololol BJ is quick to want to stand up against my leg and Bonnie needs to be held. Immediately! Banjo has plenty to say along with Dolly. Kisses usually come quickly from Purry. Many reactions. Smokey used to be the first by the door. Precious rubs all over my legs. It’s nice to be greeted. I have been given a seat for being late though. Lol Muffin.

dustydiamond1 dustydiamond1 The. Loud pictures are gorgeous. You know how much I love looking at the sky snd finding pictures in the clouds! I do see birds and the third photo down…. it looks like a kitty , just right of center, looking to the left. Must be bird watching. Do you think Gypsy saw birds in the clouds too? Lol I love the photo of her. She and I could totally lay there and watch clouds together.
Dolly wants to join her under that red bird tree! Lol He was fixed on that video! Beautiful bush!

rubysmama rubysmama It does look like a Clowder at the door! Lol I smiled at that. I guess viewing from the safety of home is a universal Clowder thing. Pretty shot. :redheartpump:
Thank you for the healing, thoughts and positive vibes! Hmmm, kind of tickles! That’s a good sign! Hi Ruby!!! The Clowder sends purrs! That tickles too! Lol
I had to laugh at the cat with a fish in his IV!!! Like cat TV! After a minute of thinking that, I got a second thought. Is that nutritious? :flail:
Aquarium water? :flail::flail::flail: So finny

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 and pearl99 pearl99 You realize that now Banjo will be blaming all card and online purchases on aliens and Mr. Nobody now?!?!?! :flail:

gilmargl gilmargl So you did name her Tiffany! I love that! Such a precious photo of her playing. I know that choosing spaying is tough. Especially when kittens are so precious. I think we all have those feelings. I have just seen so many abandoned, dumped, abused or just unwanted babies that it made it a bit easier to make that decision. Also, I once had an unspayed female develop pyometra. It was before I knew about such things and I nearly lost her. It was terrible and that was another thing that made it a constant for me with all cats after that. I had been told she was spayed but discovered that was untrue. She was an older kitty and strictly indoors ,although why she never got pregnant or tried to get outside to a male, I will never understand. I was just very fortunate that I noticed some signs and that surgery saved her. Spaying young helps to prevent such an awful fate. So, you saved many future problems and possible suffering for her. I hope that eases you a little.
She certainly reacted to being spayed in a positive way! Your description almost makes it seem that she felt better! Appetite and energy? Wow! Hopefully she is calm now and she certainly was happy to be back home! I think her kittens will smell vet on her for the moment and maybe that will give her time to rest. Once rested, if she wants them away, she will swat them. Mom cats usually know how to make babies mind. They may try but if she has a place to retreat to, she will. I always placed a small carrier or box that only held one cat well and moms can basically take up the whole space which prevents interlopers. A small space is easy for mom to guard.
I hope you get some peace and quiet too.
If you are worried about her stitches, take a photo now and every few days for comparisons. That really helps when trying to gauge changes. Chances are, she is okay. TNR programs usually release spays and neuters pretty quickly and they recover without the special care you will give Tiffany. She is a very lucky kitty! As all the others here said, we make the spay decision to improve life and stop suffering.

tabbytom tabbytom I am late for a very important date! Midweek Pawverb! They are definitely a puzzle! I don’t even try to solve that one!:flail:I just enjoy the mystery. That picture reminds me of Banjo. Definitely a puzzle!

I hope I touched in everything. I really was so glad to see everyone still here. All of us at Chez catbird have missed our family at TCS. We hope to be back up to speed soon. Please hang in there with us! I look forward to reading snd seeing all the beautiful photos. :grouphug2:

Smile post anyone?

It seems that chasing tails has become a popular game here. Bonnie started a new fad.
