tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Getting the human brain into gear can have all kinds of wonderful results. I think sometimes it can be sort of frozen in fear. Also the fight or flight instinct can kick in. Hopefully the caring gives us all the time to reflect and examine. The journey of discovery is exactly what brings good results! :yess: Agreed, agreed!
It's a good time for all of the above. People with a little time on their hands, for once, might actually do something rather unusual -- use their BRAINS instead of living by rote. *We can hope, and pray!* :yess:

rubysmama rubysmama I can only see her as Ruby. I do think how we see them is important. I know the love is reflected in her expressions. That’s the sparkle in your gem.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 This is the purrfect time for us all do some reflecting and to share some caring. Spreading a little love too.

I decided to bring out the “ reserve” toy box today. I forgot it had a lot of catnip inside! Since tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, a little green is in order.🍀 I think I unleashed some kitty chaos! Get the broom!

Banjo started it off.

Putty started digging in the box as soon as Banjo turned it over.

Smokey and Lady waited for favorite toys.

Purrs dug at the back, Lady forgot she hates messy fur and rolled in the catnip. Smokey’s fur stood up! Lolololol

Dolly came in from behind, Smokey began the catnip roll and Whistle got down and sniffed at floor level.

Purrs finally came out of the box, covered in catnip.

He proceeded to cover Mom in some of the green and affection.

Whistle kept pawing the catnip out of my hand. Yummy stuff! NO ONE even cared that there was a bag of treats on the floor. Just as well since they were a gift and not my preferred Greenies.

I think Thrasher had a bit too much nip. She started grooming a ribbon!:dizzycat:

This is the scene after everyone was a bit exhausted. Cats in the pool, cats spread on the floor!

Mitsy stayed where there was less activity. Smart girl! I think she was laughing at the others.

Oh! Looks like one is still in the box! Kodiak! Did you get stuck in there behind Purry?

You know I’m not the one that made this mess, right?

:flail:Kitty party!

This is a good time to enjoy our kitties! Celebrate life. Have a great night everyone! :heartshape:

I just wanted to add one thing tonight. Kitten season has begun. I know everyone is very busy right now but if there is any way possible, any form of donation to any shelter, anywhere, could be very important right now. Everything from old towels, blankets, clothes washing detergent, glass or metal dishes, dry or canned food in any amount, litter, litter boxes, paper towels, toilet paper and anything staff members might need during this time. Any donation of any size helps. Adoptions or fostering right now could be extra important too.

OH! Jcatbird Jcatbird , your nip story reminded me of something...When I was much, MUCH younger (about 48 years younger), I came home one evening from work to find my VERY outraged mother waiting for me. "I FOUND YOUR D**NED MARIJUANA" she spat at me. Now, since I was not what you would call an indulger, there was no marijauna, and I asked her, "What are you talking about?" "I FOUND IT! TIED UP IN A SOCK UNDER YOUR BED!" At which point I broke down in hysterics. "WHAT IS SO FUNNY ABOUT THAT?" "Mom, you found Jive's (my current cat at the time) catnip, and BOY, is she gonna be mad at you!" And she was. Mom had to go to the store for more catnip that night, after being stalked by an outraged tortie. Yeah, my thing with torties dates back a bit.

Heh! Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 During the 70’s I often worried that the catnip might be mistaken for something else! Lol My in laws found it and looked a bit funny but , fortunately, it was in the original packaging. I finally just started growing it in the garden. Avoided those issues. Lol You should never mess with a Torties supply of nip!

My cats are still having a high old time! I may not get much sleep tonight! Purry is giving love bites, things are being knocked over in the kitchen, cats are climbing things and cats are chasing cats! Lol “Note to self: Nip only before lunch!” Purry is howling with his Siamese voice! Lol Ear plugs anyone? I will try not to wiggle my feet tonight!

Our catnip of choice is the organic provided by CatClaws.com. Of course it comes through the mail, and in earlier times, I used to wonder if there'd be any rePURRcussions. It's very fragrant, very green, and very similar to something that's now legal in our great State of CATifornia. Jcatbird Jcatbird , that looks like a rip-roarin' good time. Wish we could all have joined in, but you know the rules right now. No large gatherings. ;) :sigh:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 We did have a great time! The kitties are so funny when they are playing. I love watching leaps and bounds. I got lucky finding good nip but finding a good source is great. Thanks for the link! Catifornia! Lol A great state for sure.

No large gatherings. Of humans. Kitties can gather so I’ll just keep sharing the purrs! As Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 said, “we can gather here!” TCS is the purrfect place to come together for smiles.

Our local news just had a piece about one of the animal shelters that a few of my rescues went to for adoption. Anyone remember Prime Snuggles? The 102nd of the kitties of Chez Catbird. She found her forever home at the aforementioned shelter. I was very , very grateful to that shelter. They are no kill and are still functioning during current events. They are appealing for donations and want people to think about adopting now! They had an excellent point! While people are remaining at home, a pet can be of great comfort. It’s the purrfect time to adopt and spend time getting to know a new friend. Adoptions are being arranged by interviewing over the phone. You can view pets for adoption on websites and a one on one meeting in the shelter parking area can be set up. Fostering while people are able to work from home is also a wonderful option. I will be doing what I can for them. I can’t adopt but I can donate and encourage others to adopt, foster or donate. Because of a great shelter, a great little kitty named Prime Snuggles got a furever home. Obviously, I could not have given permanent care to all the kitties that came here so places like that shelter meant that I could pull more kitties out of a very bad place. More kitties survived because I was able to place them in a safe shelter to find their new furmilies. I am forever grateful to the shelters, staff and to the humans involved in the adoptiing of kitties.

The first night Prime Snuggles was inside.

Everyone should experience Prime Snuggles. Visits to shelters are way down. Visits are still allowed at one person in the cat room at a time. Even if all we can do is visit kitties, it helps. Cats can still gather.

If you decide to participate in any way at your local shelter, check with them as to their needs and current requirements. I can assure you, the needs are great.

The kitties here knew that today was St. Patrick’s Day since there is a big celebration in this area. Tradition here has it that if you are not wearing green today, you get pinched! Ow, meow! No cat would ever allow that!

What is a kitty to do?

There is a local rescue/TNR organization that we have been donating to for some time now. As far as I know, they rely on donations and do not get any money from any other source. They are a small outfit, but they do good work, given the resources available to them.

Yes, all, shelters, ACCs, rescues and sanctuaries are BEGGING for adoptions and fosters. Some shelters are out of food. Some shelters are CLOSING. Anyone who can open their home and heart to a cat (or more than one cat) is BEGGED to come forward and help to save these precious lives. Donate money, supplies, food -- work online from home, as I do approximately 7 hours a day, every day, advocating for cats in these facilities, on the streets, and in homes that are rehoming them. EVERYONE can do something. If you are reading this, you can help. Get on your socials -- facebook, twitter, or ? -- and look up an ACC or shelter. Then hit "SHARE" on each cat's profile. Build up followers so that more people see and hopefully share for the cats. I have several thousand followers I've built up over the years. It's never been more crucial to get the cats and kittens SEEN. Thank you.
Our St. Patrick's Day was the most bizarre I've ever experienced. I don't use alcohol, go to bars, or participate in public celebrations, so it shouldn't have been weird, but of course it was. The positive is that we are all here, safe, well, with food and water, and with each other. I've been contacting friends I haven't talked to in awhile to ask how they are. The ones I've received replies from say they are very happy I've contacted them. Maintaining social contact can make all the difference! Everyone reading, if there are people in your life that you haven't talked to in awhile, they'd probably appreciate very much your checking in with them.

What happened that was bizarre? I don't really know what St. Patrick's Day is, since I never celebrated. I know about corned beef & cabbage, but I'm vegetarian and we don't have any cabbage. :)
What happened that was bizarre is that instead of big, colorful parades, people bar-hopping and drinking green beer, eating corned beef and cabbage, etc., basically bars and restaurants nationwide are closed now, parades were cancelled, and everyone is very concerned, unhappy, and even panicking over this virus. St. Patrick's Day is basically an American holiday for the Irish-American population, whose history in this country has been, to put it mildly, checkered. My European ancestors were Irish, so it's something I mark, though I don't use alcohol or eat meat, either. Usually I listen to some Irish music, look at some programs about Ireland, wear some special clothes (the only thing I did yesterday) and jewelry, and just feel some connection to those ancestors and that land. It's a day that holds a lot of sadness (if you study Irish history and Irish-American history, you will know why) but also some happiness that we as a people have found a lot of opportunity here, and even happiness.

I do have some sauerkraut though! Not sure if that counts. So just basically celebrating the Irish people? I'm sure I have some Irish in me somewhere.
Uh, yeah, I think I see it there around your left elbow. :crackup:Sauerkraut? Yeah, I speak for the Irish people when I say, "We'll take it!":flail::thumbsup:

N NY cat man Those smaller organizations do some very important work. Often I find the smaller groups are better able to keep all the resources on the animals. I also support that type of operation. I have found that many of the grants that are available go to the groups that are larger and thus, produce higher numbers of adoptions. If the grants were given based on percentages of adoptions compared to intake, it might be different. Hard to know but I love all those doing work with TNR and kitties. We need every one of them and more. I wish their job was easier but having people like you around keeps them going! :clap2::goldstar::redheartpump: Bravo and thank you to you!

:vibes: May they find all the support they need!
