At the moment Shaman is missing. Treasure is refusing food, and is whining, yowling and tearing up the yard like he's looking for her. This is just tragic (again) Surely if he's acting like this something happened as they are usually very close to one another for the 5 years they've been alive.

A question that no one answered: I know that tabby is a color and not a breed but is being hyper a characteristic of tabby cats?

I'm being serious here because Treasure lost both of his friends yesterday because all he wants to do is play. Toys don't wear him out. Catnip does not affect him (you know act crazy and then pass out). Wind up toys don't work. He almost went blind from laser toys (he has a habit of looking directly into the source of the beam) so I don't use those anymore. I've tried all the cat calming products on the market (except the feliway as they are outside) and that has no affect. Chamomile doesn't work. Running him the equivalent of 5 miles around and around in my back yard does not wear him out. Playing up to 2 or 3 hours straight with him does not wear him out. I almost had to go to a doctor for myself yesterday as I fell and almost sprained my ankle because he's always underfoot wanting to play and I was trying to do yard work (like pick up trash thoughtless neighbors just pitch in our yard). When I saw him last night he wanted to play with Shaman. Shaman is the lay back, relax, chill in the sun type cat. So he goes up to her, bites her (in a playful mood) but she wouldn't have it. She just finished eating. She takes off, he follows after her. Loud vocalizations. She runs back him on her tail, her ears went back fully pinned, she then hissed and swatted him hard near the eye and took refuge under my chair. He then saw Sopdet who is his buddy and she was standing there watching this. He started toward her and she growled and hissed at him and took off as fast as she does when I head her way. I know he is just wanting to play but I do have to say if he was human I would find him very annoying. I give him a pass because he's a cat but nothing wears him out. Even the raccoons run and hide when they see him come. lol

Who needs a huge dog to jog with to stay in shape when you have Treasure?

I don’t believe there are any behavior characteristics associated with tabbies. My boyfriend has had a few and called them “pillows” for their laziness, while I know others who have had more energetic ones. I think the personality is independent of that.

I was asking because every tabby Ihave seen has been overly hyper.

But what can I do about this situation to wear him out as I said above nothing seems to work. These cats are as impossible as my Mother. :(

I don’t know, honestly. I think a lot of people’s suggestions come from indoor cats, much like mine would. If you say you play with him for 2-3 hours, and he can run and climb everywhere outside I don’t know what else to suggest.

Is he actually causing a problem? If it’s just cat spats with Sopdet and Shaman I think that’s just part of cat interactions. Olive does stuff like this to Gohan all the time and it’s rarely consensual lol. Also Gohan is very vocal during these times, but every time we check on them he’s like a soccer player and no one is getting hurt. He doesn’t seem to love it, but when he’s super upset he’ll stand up to her and then leave the areas. With outdoor cats. I think them leaving is signal to Treasure to cut it out, and it sounds like Treasure leaves them be and stays in the yard? This could just be natural cat dynamics.

It's more than cat spats. He literally tears apart the yard, my Mom's screen door is totally ruined (and that is not winning any brownie points) Shaman has not eaten in over 24 hours because he's sitting by the food bowl. She's been up in the tree for that period of time waiting for him to go. Sadly she does need to eat. Sopdet, I'm confident she hunts, but I have stated several times that Shaman does not know how to hunt and she relies on me. I try to sneak food to her but Treasure is always under foot (hence the almost trip to the doctor yesterday) Surely he's not the only cat that is this hyperactive :(

Oh and Treasure does not stay in the yard when they leave. He goes looking for them and causes a ruckus in the bushes

He's a puzzle for sure. I've seen tabbies that were pretty energetic but I always wore them out in some way. He is totally healthy, as both were given an examination last week when the fiasco between he and Shaman started. I'm thinking now it's not so much Sopdet but that Treasure just wants to play and Shaman is not in the mood. Shaman is more like my Pepper was, (who was also calico) in that she likes to leisurely walk around the yard, or lay and chill. It's hard to believe that 2 cats from same litter can be so different. And seeing how Sopdet was calm several yards away from me but took off running away when she saw Treasure makes me think it's his energy that is driving them all off. I love him to death but something has to be done or I'll be in the bushes with them.

BTW: his constant energy levels and destructive nature is why I can't peacefully sit and earn money to feed these cats properly. When I started feeding them, or rather Shaman, I had no idea this would be a a tragedy like it is. Every day I have to beg money from a friend so I can get them food because I'm always having to right their wrongs in the yard and property before Mom blows more of a fuse.

When you played with him for a few hours straight, what did you do? What types of toys did you use?

I learned late the proper way to play with cats to wind them down (thanks to Jackson Galaxy, lol) and one thing I found surprising is that because playing is really the hunting instinct, getting them all wound up running around is important but so is allowing them to hunt and “stalk” their prey. And then feeding them after the hunt so they go and nap.

Have you tried using a wand toy like Da Bird, playing for even 20-30 min and when he stops for a breather feed him? Even if it’s just a tasty snack and not a full meal? I saw someone else recommend getting a strict schedule of play and feeding for them, so maybe that will calm Treasure for some periods of the day? Just throwing out ideas, I’m sure you already have tried a few.

I have tried all of those suggestions and not a single thing works. I really hope I don't have to give him away to someone but he just annoyed Shaman again. I have to feed her at some point. This is a heartbreaking tragedy. She already had to go to animal hospital once because of him. :(

Just moments ago he fought her terribly as she tried to make it to the food bowl. Sadly I had to run them all off the property before they cause more damage. This is just terrible. And no one in my neighborhood wants to take over this caretaking :(

Once again Shaman has to be rushed to emergency vet because of Treasure. My heart is breaking in two :(

So obviously these two are now bitter enemies. And I"m going to have to make the tough choice which one to take with me if I ever have to leave and which ones to turn over to someone else. Guess they really do hold grudges after all. These 2 have been at each others throats for 2 1/2 weeks and nothing is ever resolved. This breaks my heart in two. :(

Anyway I have a very tough choice to make here as a result of this tragedy. So I don't know what to do at this point. Sometimes I wonder if I did them good by starting this with them. :(

Ok well I'm going to be offline for about a week. No biggie, just needing to catch up financially. These cats are eating me out of house and home as well as running up medical from almost killing each other. Hopefully I'll have lots of interesting updates when I come back.

Update:

So I'm banging my head against the wall on domesticating Sopdet. 8 months and she's still leery of me, although she observes me daily several times playing with Shaman and Treasure (remember Treasure is her buddy). And she just gets close enough to eat nearby when a neighbor comes outside to cut grass, pull weeds etc, which sends her off back into the bushes and she's gone for several days before feeling brave to chance being near me again. I want to domesticate her, she'd be the last of the 5 to be domesticated and being such buddies with Treasure I'd love to have her as well as Shaman and Treasure. It's not easy and when I'm a buffet for mosquitoes that's even worse.

Both Treasure and Shaman are chilling to some Oxygen show (I just play the sound on bluetooth speaker outside). Hope he doesn't get any ideas lol

Sad update: Cooper, Treasure and Sopdet have to be taken to vet. The 3 got into a huge fight and almost killed each other. Loss of blood and fur. Shaman ran off and can't be found nor responds. Looks like she and Ambrose left forever. So I may or may not be able to return as I may have to cancel my internet to pay for the vet services. The cats come first. I'll update when I can.

That's weird that they fight like that. Are they male or female? Do you know what set them off?

Treasure, Cooper and Ambrose are male. All neutered as visible tipped ears. Shaman and Sopdet female and also spayed. Noticeable tipped ears on all 5. And none of the suggestions given in articles works with Sopdet. She still creeps and dashes past me like I'm Jack the Ripper of cats. And it's going on 8 to 9 months now with constantly seeing me.
