The only venomous snake I've seen on my property was a Canyon Rattler (aka. Grand Canyon Rattlesnake). Don't even know how he got here. However, we do have the Green Mojave up here. They aren't near as aggressive as a desert mojave though.
I used to have a 6', as big around as my wrist, gopher snake living under the house..'Buddy'. I never saw a mouse or packrat for years. This one was only around 3' and I'm hoping he stays under the house for awhile.
The Mojave Green is the deadliest of the rattlesnakes. We gave all the rattlers a wide berth and let them live their lives on their land, unlike some of our neighbors. There was a juvie slithering across the driveway once and my ex just walked it out to the undeveloped land across the road.
Yeah, the Pine-Gophers do have quite an appetite for the rodents. We had kangaroo rats up there, too, and they were FAST. The pack (wood) rats can be really funny. There was one up there who'd do handstands in the bowl of rabbit pellet we put out for the cottontails and jackrabbits -- he'd stand there with his bright eyes on us, like he wanted us to share in the joke. He was pretty cute.

So I have moved to Reno, NV on August 1 staying with my son for a while until I can save up enough to get my own place. I am also using his computer as mine is not yet set up, so I won't be on the site much. The move went reasonably well but of course the former landlord claims that the place is a mess and he does not want to give me back any of my deposit. So I will have somebody else file a small claims suit in California and fly down for the court date. He is not going to get away with that. I took pics before I moved in and kept every e-mail ever going between us that I can print and show a judge. I actually expected something like that and had picked up the forms beforehand. A pox on all landlords that just try to gouge every renter.
I'm still wearing the boot on my fractured ankle but is is certainly getting better.

Glad you made it there safe and sound. Good for you for filing a small claims. He may just give it to rather than go to court.

How are your kitties?

The idiot even put in his letter that he would fight me in court, yeah yeah yeah, he's a frigging lawyer but obviously thinks nobody else knows anything and he is not someone who knows anything about tenants rights, he's not an expert in that but I have a book on it and how to take somebody to small claims. He did not even know that a water heater needs to be replaced every 10 years which he found out when the water heater blew its top and there was water all over and running into the apartment downstairs, quite a bit of damage and he was responsible for all of it.
Kitties are fine, survived the trip extremely well, no problem at all.

Awww, that sucks about the deposit. I've had that done to me, too. I've only had one good, fair, CAT-LOVING landlord (who actually sought out tenants with cats!) who made up for all the others. She and her husband had the entire unit painted, new laminate installed (and they would have had carpet, too, but I asked that they didn't, because three cats can and do sometimes puke), a new stove and refigerator, a room a/c, and new mini-blinds throughout. Reasonable rent, and they didn't keep my deposit. A beautiful 4-plex at the end of a cul-de-sac with a school vehicle yard behind the building, which meant it was quiet at night from that angle, anyway.

Hoping you will love Reno once you get settled in! Like every place, it has its ups and downs, but it is in beautiful country and yeah, no taxes is a good thing.

Today is my birthday. John worked last night and he works tonight, so Aedan and I just went to Dairy Queen. He's off tomorrow night so we'll probably go to dinner or something.
A big, beautiful "H.B." to you, Alicia88 Alicia88 ! Celebrating with your loved ones, whatever you do, is the best, yes?

I think Samai is Bipolar. Yesterday, I was steam cleaning my house. Stopped for a break and Samai jumped up next to me to cuddle. I gave her a few pets then reached over to move something. She snapped. She latched herself onto my arm and started biting the :censored: out of it. I yelled and tried to push her away, but that just made her bite down harder. I had to give her a small smack on her butt to get her to let go. My arm looked like it's been through a meat grinder. 10 bloody bites, 2 of which were pretty deep. I was bleeding all over the place. And she hasn't left my side since. She just wants cuddles and is a loving cat.

The bites are good. The 2 deep ones have already closed and look really good. The others are already scabbed over. No infection and no reason to see a doctor. I usually heal well.

That's what you have to watch for. Puncture wounds often close on top but stay open underneath, and they're more likely to get infected. Not always of course, but do keep an eye on them.

One of my childhood cats did that to me when the air bed pump was running. It's not fun at all.

I'm keeping an eye on it. When I changed the bandage last night they looked really good. A little bruising around one of them, but looked good.
One of the bites looks like a shark bite. You can see the half arc shape with teeth marks. It's kind of funny. But I wander what made her snap like that. I didn't do anything but move my arm. I didn't even have the thing I was going to move.

Could have been anything, including a noise outside that you didn't hear.

Alicia88 Alicia88 , HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

segelkatt segelkatt , hope you are settled in soon, and as for your landlord...SIC 'EM! I hate landlords who assume we don't know the law and try to take advantage. Bet he wouldn't have done that with a 40-year-old man!

So true, IMHO, Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 on the deposit/landlord thing. The guy who wouldn't give me my deposit back was mercenary as all get-out and I'm pretty sure he wanted to get something going with me, but I wasn't interested. Two strikes against me.

Remember me saying that my son wanted a job at a counseling center, but they couldn't hire him until he was 21? He turned 21 this past week and called HR to let them know and finish his application. He did this yesterday. They called him back in 20 minutes for an interview. They now have 3 positions they are considering him for. Two of them in the neighboring town, one of which is at the hospital. I hope he gets the one in this town so that he doesn't have to traverse the pass in the ice.
His interview is Monday....keep your fingers crossed.

It's only part time and he'll make around $1000 a month gross (somewhere around $750 bring home), but, he's got classes 4 days a week and he's still living here. So if he saves some, this will help with spring semester fees.
