surya surya Someone is looking for you on your, Somewhat Misfit and Unadoptable kitties, thread. She is really sweet and loves black and tux kitties. Just didn’t want you to miss that in case you get a lot of alerts at once.

What do you do if Mom decides to move kitties around?

You hide under a dark table.....

You hope she doesn’t look there....

When she does, you pretend you’re invisible.....

and never, ever give up! Even if you know you’ve been caught. :flail: Mackie! You’ve been caught!

I spent a good deal of time trying to clear out the sunroom tonight. Two cats out and one slipping in. One cat out and two slipping in.

Hiding under the pillow just won’t work.

The kitties are always pretending to be innocent, even when you know by the look on their faces that they understand exactly what they are doing. Hide and go seek was a wonderful game for them tonight. :chessirecat: They’re really very good at it! I think the kitties win!

Hey! Don’t look at me! I’m right where I’m supposed to be!

You’ve got to love a smiling kitty!:)
Have a great night everyone!

Thanks, I just gave her my contact info.

I put a basket out for my porch kitties with some bedding in it, since the apartment next door is vacant right now. It has been getting cold here lately and I felt sorry for them. All three of them were in the basket, looking so cute. I tried to take a picture, but two of them jumped out before I could. Here is a bad picture of the sleepy guys, they are saying, "What's going on? Why did you wake us?"

Sometimes we find good people. surya surya I am hoping that things go well for the kitties there and that you get , much deserved help.

Thank you to Angell of Noshoba for giving me referrals and providing help to @annguyen and Nugget. We will all be hoping for good results. Very big relief to hear that the kitty is getting some meds and a good vet now. May Nugget recover! :yess::angel::heartshape:

Well the pillow fight continues! Smokey didn’t get her turn the other night and the kitty shuffle prevented much snuggle time last night sooooo.... I thought adding a pillow at the another spot might get me a place to relax and still give the kitties a pillow. Here’s how that worked out.

I want my turn!

Smokey. Let Mom relax here a minute.

Smokey wants that pillow Mom! I’m coming up!

What do you mean, get the other pillow?

Please Mom?!? Let Smokey come up? ( that little pink tongue gets me every time. I think she knows that too!

I’ll relax you Mom.

Cats are very convincing. What a look on that face! Okay, I’ve been convinced!

Come on Smokey....Lol

I have to admit, seeing Smokey curled up like a little squirrel next to me on the pillow, is very relaxing.

My little girl is very sweet to hold Mom this way. We’re both purring now. :purr:Obviously, we don’t need a second pillow. :) :tabbycat:

This all makes kitty rescues look very hard, doesn’t it? :redheartpump:

I might just curl up right here myself tonight. Some fluff at bedtime is always a treat. Hmmmmm. Has everyone had a turn now? I’ll probably get the pillow to myself tomorrow night. ;)
Good night everyone. :catlove:

I write this as an educational post because I find many people are unaware of this possible risk.

Got a call today on the rest of the blood work I had done on BJ. I half expected something like anemia but that was fine, however, he does have heartworms. This leaves me so mad at whoever was responsible for him being outside to begin with.
For those who are not aware of this ,CATS can get heartworms just like dogs. It isn’t common but it happens. Cat tend to fight them off a bit better but if the worms lodge in the heart and either stay alive or die there the cat can get very ill due to the body’s reaction. Steroids can help. The symptoms of a problem that the cat can show when it becomes a problem are difficulty breathing, panting, fainting, diarrhea, difficulty walking, asthma like conditions, fainting or even sudden death.
You can now get heartworm prevention for cats that are outside and at high risk for this. If your cat is outside, please talk to your vet and see about getting heart worm medicine. Once again I offer my plea for cats to be indoors only.
If you love this face.....get the meds.:redheartpump:

XOXOXOXOXOXXO to you and BJ. Sending boatloads of love.:vibes::heartshape::redheartpump:

Thank you for posting this educational post.

it was a big fear when I had with the girls being outside in a wetland area and one of the reasons I'm glad they are inside now. I'm amazed at how many don't know that kitties can get heartworm too.

kittyluv387 kittyluv387 Thank you. He will get tons of love and be secure in a home with me. He deserves lots of snuggles. He’s a tough kitty so we’ll hope he does well for a long time. :heartshape:He’s happy now and that’s counting for a lot.
BJ is a tough guy like Charlie. They are soul kitties. I've already decided he's going to do well for a long time and the universe shouldn't argue with me on it. *puts foot down hard*

XOXOXOXO

OH NO! I have been screaming about the danger of heartworms in cats for awhile now, to little avail. I hate that BJ has them, but so, SO happy that he is safe and secure, and will be loved and cared for for as long as he is with us. And cats do tend to tolerate them somewhat better than dogs, so he may enjoy a nice run before...well. My heart with yours, and his, Darlin!

Perhaps you should post a thread about this in the health forum?

Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 Per your request, there is now a thread to follow BJ’s story with his illness. Following a cat with heartworms. BJ as his story begins. We can all learn as things go. Although I am well aware of the illness, I’ve never had a cat with heartworms. I do understand all the ramifications but still hope that they will die and pass through without harm. It’s possible.

surya surya Thank you!

rubysmama rubysmama Thank you too. I just went and read it. I was pretty up to speed but very glad to see it here to teach those who do not know.
I think a good reminder there is that if you travel with your cat to areas that have mosquitos, you should give heartworm prevention.

We all think to prevent flea bites. Mosquitos should be added to that list. It only takes one bite.

When I caught Malaria, I was only bitten once. One bite people!
If you have holes in window screens, repair them before opening up for Spring and Summer.

Let’s hope I don’t have much to add to that new thread. :ohwell:

Back to the feral front. Putting all else aside. I got rather amused tonight. My poor kitties got upset by a dog barking loudly outside my house. It sounded very near the door and was accompanied by loud music. Again! I turned on the house alarm and went out the front door to make sure the dog wasn’t in my yard. He was just crossing into the edge. I barked back at him and bayed like a hound. He took off running and so did his companions. The music stopped and I wondered why this had never occurred to me before. :flail: A simple solution if it’s dark outside. I admit that I’m surprised it worked. I’m going to get some, “ Beware of Dog” signs. Since cats can’t read, they won’t be frightened by the signs but maybe the hooligans will. I guess I should bark every night. I hope the effect lasts all night. For the moment it’s very peaceful.

Here’s a cats reaction to a dog very close by.

Mom? Can it huff and puff and blow the house down?

Do I need to hide or try to eat it?

Mom.... make it stop!

It’s okay kitties.,He can’t come in by the hair on your chiny, chin, chin. It’s just a dog. ;)

I came back in and calmed the kitties.

Poor BJ took the longest.
He’s already had a ruff ruff week. He curled up around my arm when I held him.....

Mitsy is still in hiding but Banjo took a spot behind me on the sofa. Most of the others are now laying nearby and BJ ...

Has gone to sleep in my arms. I think he’ll be fine. Awwww! BJ. :redheartpump:

This photo is one of my all time favorites! Total relaxation and trust.
I hope everyone can have as relaxed a rest as BJ is getting now. :sleepycat::heartshape:

I should have given the actual title of the thread I guess. “Heartworms in a cat, BJ as his story begins.”
Here's the direct link: Heartworms In A Cat, Bj As His Story Begins.

That's hilarious.

Awwww! BJ. :redheartpump:

CL56 CL56 Me too (dang is it!) but we’ll remain hopeful. There is always hope. If the worms die and break into small enough pieces that nothing is blocked, it’s just possible that he could get through this. I will be giving our boy all the love I can pour into him. It seems he has won the hearts of a great many here so maybe all our hopes for him will make a difference. If love can do it, it will happen. :hangin::redheartpump:
