More autumn glory over here, which more than makes up for all the drywall dust I have going on inside. I'm pretty happy that the ceiling is getting repaired in a timely fashion, and that we are able to do it. And, on the PAWsitive side, the workers' noise doesn't seem to be bothering Lucy too much. She's securely comfortable in the basement with the cat tree, and only curiously looking up as the plaster crashes down on the floor above. No hiding, though. :devilcat2:

Mondo has had an upset tummy which finally cleared up today. We got to take a lot of nice, long walks in the rain at all hours, and really got to check out the neighborhood, though.

I think if I were a tree, I'd be this one. Small, short, big head of red hair:

This one was by the Home Depot
- I couldn't believe such stunning foliage was in a strip mall.

I took some time on the weekend to read up on gifting stuff across borders. Forms, limits, etc. I have to put the value of individual items and not what I paid for them. Makes things a little difficult seeing I don't have detailed receipts and most of the stuff is from the 70s and 80s. I guess I should have known it would not be as simple as dropping a box in the mail. Especially with Ebay, Etsy, etc. operating across borders. At least I can use Ebay and Etsy to get approximate values.

I'm sorry you caught a cold, but glad you're feeling better now! I have never shipped using a Canadian customs form, but I do sell on Etsy, and have to ship across borders regularly. Customs forms can be annoying, but you generally only have to fill them out approximately, especially since you aren't selling anything. Hoping you don't have any trouble at customs with your packages, and they all arrive safely! :gift:

I need to get a new deck built and am thinking of expanding it out to the right past the little pine trees. Then I could make a container garden up off the ground. Only problem is it's hot as heck out here in the summer but the trees are growing bigger which gives some nice shade during the hot parts of the day.
@foxxycat - Free tip: plan your shade for the deck's extension. When I cleared what's not the back lawn, the first year it became clear that an expanse of lawn that size was just going to burn away in high Summer, and I set to finding the "right" trees to shade the area. One of the "right" picks was the hybrid Freeman Maple Autumn Fantasy.

It's a cross between Red Maple and Silver Maple that manages to combine the best qualities of both Parents - it grows like a weed, it gathers it colour later in the season, and it's incredibly drought-tolerant. Here it is, front and center: nine years old and 33 - 35 feet tall. Plant a pair and limb them up instead of leaving the lower branches, and you'd have an expansive canopy within ten years. Just for you, just now:

Mine came from this fine old nursery, with no shipping problems at all:

FREEMAN MAPLE | Forestfarm

Accidental bonus: the daylight moon, near the top of the frame about one third of the way in from the left hand side. Moon not included with purchase of tree:

tinydestroyer tinydestroyer - How lovely to have found yourselves in a neighbourhood populated by Sugar Maples during your first "real" Autumn. Holy cats, these are great photos; TCS could manage its own Autumn-themed calendar with photos culled from this thread alone!

Pawsitive: it's 50º here in brilliant sunlight and blue skies, and tomorrow - Hallowe'en - the temperatures are predicted to rise to near 60º - with temperatures between 50º and 60º throughout the first week of November, when we should be having our first or second snowstorm!

I've never sent anything up to Canada *except cats* Shane Kent Shane Kent . Wish I could be of help. You might get additional info from just doing a search on google and/or your postal service.;) Feel better soon! Those are some beautiful cat pins -- I've never seen any of them before. And I have a LOT of cat pins. ;)
tinydestroyer tinydestroyer GORGEOUS photos! @1CatOverThe Line is right (and you know your photos are gorgeous as well!) :fallsmiley:

Nice cool grey morning giving way to a nice coolish partially sunny late morning and topping out at 75F forecast. Enjoyed watering my poor parched plants. There are just a few leaves at the very top of the redbud, and the Chinese pistache is reddening daily. The very best thing about these cooler nights and mornings is being hemmed in overnight by THREE cats. :cloud9:

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I lived a three minute walk to Canada for many years; cats are easy to send to Canada - especially Snowshoes!

Pawsitive: It's so beautiful out there today that it's too nice to stay inside. Time for a walk in the woods!
.
Obviously too much time on your hands, 1CatOverTheLine 1CatOverTheLine , and too much stray lumber in your woodworking shop. One of those eagles could easily fly your Snow Shoe over, evading all the tariffs and fees. Now wouldn't that be PAWSitive?;)

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - The moment I read this, I ran out into the yard to try flagging down an eagle.

Wow, it's absolutely gorgeous here today - like early September, but with more colourful trees. There's only one thing more pawsitive than great weather when you least expect it, and that's FREE CATS!

A positive thing. I decided I need to get out more and interact with people. I'm a big introvert but my friends aren't in this state so I need to make more of an effort. So what did I do? Apply to volunteer at the nearest no-kill shelter of course! I wanted to do this for a long time but I always felt like I was too tired and busy for it. But I figure, surely I can commit to 4 hours a month?! That won't interrupt my time too much. And they open late so I can still sleep in. I'm pretty excited. I just have to complete the self study so I can move onto orientation!

Today Milly received a Jack O'Lantern surprise! These were forty percent off last weekend and so I bought this very catnip-y toy for her to enjoy:

CAN YOU SEE HER TOOF MARKS IN THAT LAST PHOTO??! :disturbed: . . . :)

Also, I thought I'd show you part of last evening's clouds during the sunset:

What a great idea! I might try this since I don't know anyone here yet, either. Hopefully you get to orientation soon, and make lots of new friends along the way - human AND feline!

Today's second PAWsitive is brought to you by good old fashioned stubbornness. I successfully mowed my steep-as-all-getout hill and yard with minimal ruts. Even though the hill is taller than me, and I had to sit down once to keep the mower from going into the street, I kept control of it. It was a pain, but totally worth it to know I can do it myself. I must've looked pathetic in the attempt, because a couple of people stopped to ask if I needed help. But I said no because I needed to make sure I can mow my own lawn (plus, I wasn't going to let the lawn win that easily!)
IMG_1027.JPG

And one more tree for good measure, since we're making a calendar and all. I suppose it can go with out newly-planned season(s) since we've decided to have nothing but Fall tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 . A new tree for every (Fall) month!

PushPurrCatPaws PushPurrCatPaws - What a beautiful sky; and people thought I was kidding about having enough material for a calendar!

Nothing so colourful here this evening, but you can't win them all. On the Pawsitive side, we might reach sixty degrees here tomorrow!

(I missed the calendar post -- is there a calendar in the making??)
PushPurrCatPaws PushPurrCatPaws - No; I simply remarked that so many people had shared so many great photos on this thread that you could assemble a calendar.

Pawsitive: chocolate covered cherries. They're here, the box is opened, and best of all - cats don't eat chocolate covered cherries!

Pawsitive: I got my flu shot today - working with young students I can't take any chances. And in preparation for the winter season I had a new battery installed in my car. Trust me I was living on borrowed time, i.e. the old one was original and even the auto mechanic couldn't believe how long it lasted.:eek3:

I found the smaller one to go with the larger one. The large one does have a tinge of yellow, I guess from being in the sun. I got them from different places so not like they spent their lives together. Now they will:)

Speaking of larger and smaller ones.

A door stop, made of metal. I should have taken a photo of the back, it has a wedge cast with it.

The students are quite enamored with Myrtle (we took a vote to see if we liked the name she came with and almost everyone did - and I think the one who said no didn't understand the question). I can't blame them.

I decided that I was going to try to curl my hair with drinking straws overnight. The positive is that there are no negative outcomes! Either I will have fabulous curls to go with my butterfly crown, or it will turn out terribly but I'll be able to pull it ofc because Halloween. Now here's hoping I can sleep with them in.

I think the curls will turn out great Lari Lari . I remember my mom used to curl my hair for special occasions with pin curls the night before and I would sleep with them. In the morning, my very straight hair would be full of curl. The secret is doing it with damp hair which you are probably doing. Good luck with the butterfly crown, this is an awesome idea!

MOD NOTE:

If music is banned from this thread
No, music isn't banned from this thread. However, it was becoming more of a music video thread than the Pawsitive thread so we would appreciate it if you all eased up a bit on that and not have it be the focus of the thread

Also: Today is the one year anniversary of this thread. As they say, all good things must come to an end. This thread will be closed when it hits 10,000 posts or December 31st, whichever comes first.

The positive is that many cats that were helped during the duration of this thread. :)

Hey tinydestroyer tinydestroyer and Kieka Kieka - this is just for you!

A Snowshoe Cat steals its owner's car, and takes the two Family dogs - A Husky and a Doberman - for a ride. Naturally, the Snowshoe crashes the car, and all three ascend to Heaven, where they meet God face to face, as He sits on His golden throne. God says to the Husky, "tell me what you believe," and the Husky responds, "I believe in good discipline and hard work regardless of the weather." "That's wonderful," says God; "come and sit here at my right side."

God then asks the Doberman, "tell me what you believe," and the Doberman responds, "I believe in loyalty, and in guarding my master faithfully." "Excellent traits," says God; "come and sit here at my left side."

At last, God says to the Snowshoe, "tell me what you believe," and the cat responds, "I believe that you're sitting in my chair."

Happy Hallowe'en to all! It's 56º here, with our morning showers just having ended, and climbing up into the low sixties for the day - and perfect day for wandering around in the woods and just looking at the forest floor and the foliage on the high bank. The Firefall Maple is finally in full colour, and seems to have been drawn by a child with a single red crayon.

Remember that it's Hallowe'en, so watch out for the little ones if you're on the road today!
