….oh, baby....
If you check on your sleeping cat pretty much like other people check on their sleeping little human
Yeah, I have webcams set up to alert me if there’s movement. I always look...even if I’m just upstairs and it alerts on movement downstairs and vice versa, but definitely when I’m not home. Someone can steal every bloomin’ thing in my house, but don’t hurt my cats.

I know, right? Oh, the images that went through my head. He actually said, "Well that's not the same thing" as he walked away.
You could always sweetly reply "People like you make it possible for people like me to deal with other living things. Thanks to people like you, I no longer enjoy the species you represent, so my "crazy cat thing" is all on your shoulders. Thanks so much! I appreciate it and so do millions of kitties".
It gets them every time.

I would have been tempted to say, among other things, that cats would be my #1 priority, as they are. :sigh: And I think I should stop there so as not to get thrown off TCS for using profanities.:censored:
Yep, and if everyone did the same millions of other things would go unnoticed. It sets a balance. We love what we love and we go for it, and it makes the world go round and all that stuff!

I don't think it should be an "either/or" situation. Of course cats have always been my priority as I was born and raised with them as beloved family members. But I also care a lot about people -- good, kind, loving, compassionate, gentle people. The others, I pray for, because if they'd find their hearts somewhere and start caring, it would be a better world. Those who've crossed the line and done unthinkable things, I pray to be dealt with by the Justice they cannot escape, sooner rather than later, and that they will never be remembered, as if they had never been at all. But those who make the "your dog vs. your kid" argument are going to get a very pointed response from me. You're so right. We each care about whom or what we care about. No one has the right to tell us whom or what to care about. And those who do, usually don't REALLY care about anyone or anything except arguing and power tripping people. I tell them to go help those they care about, let me help those I care about, and then everything will be good. I've yet to see any of these critics help ANYONE except themselves. And it doesn't even really help them, because selfish people are miserable.

I hate those "if your house was on fire, who would you save, your kid or you dog?" Geez. Who asks these things? Answer is I would die trying to save both and that's pretty much it which shuts the rank obsessed right up, either with no response or "that't not what I asked". Who gives a rats behind what you "asked"? That's my answer. Deal with it =)
Those selfish critics really get my pity, and they hate that, and I don't do it for that reason but it must be a poor way to live rank ordering who loves whom the most, who is the best kid, who is the best cat, who is the best dog, was my ex spouse better than you or not, etc. I mean, really.

Eloquently and very well thought and said.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 - I'm beginning to think you're right; eleven seems the perfect number, unless you're Norachan Norachan .
You're half way there! The first half seem like a struggle, but it's a breeze from then on.

Talking of spiders, as some of us were, my mum has severe arachnophobia so when I was a kid you earnt your pocket money by trapping spiders under paper cups and releasing them outside (while mum hid in the loo) Spiders are alright by me.

You know you're a cat person when you buy a house in an area with no amenities, no paved roads and -20C winters because it looks like the kind of place the kitties would like.

When you have just become an empty nester. Your human child has moved out of state. You are now shopping for comfortable harnesses/leashes for your cats to get used to so they can come visit their human sibling with you because you KNOW that they all miss each other but you don't want to subject the cats to a 10 hour drive without being able to stretch their legs and NOT bringing them is NOT going to happen. You also have every pet friendly hotel in a 50 mile radius of your destination bookmarked so you can find THE best one.

We miss you sister. See you soon. XOXO Lilith & Sophie

And you know you’re a cat person if you sleep on the sofa at night with your 20-year-old boy so you can lift him down at night and follow him as he gets water and uses the litter box. And then you lift him back up next to you.
That's so sweet! I'm glad you posted it because I will remember to do that for my kitty when she is too old or sick to jump down off the bed or sofa.

. . . you hurry down the aisle to talk to people who are selecting cat related things in the store.
. . . you stand at the door you've opened for Pretty Baby, and talk to him... " Are you going to go out? Make up your mind. ", because you don't want to close the door until he has finally made up his mind.
. . . there's a slightly-heavy-something walking across your ribs and tummy too early in the morning when you want to sleep just a little longer.

You may be a cat person if you’re going to have lunch with friends, but 30 minutes before you’re supposed to leave, the semi feral cat you adopted eight months ago voluntarily climbs carefully onto your lap for the first time ever, gives you a sweet look, purrs softly, puts her head down, and goes to sleep. So you cancel on your friends. Of course. (“Sweetie, hand me my phone...carefully...slowly.”)

You might be a cat person if you sleep in another bed from your (human) significant other because your 20-year-old cat will sleep only between you and the edge of the bed, and you inadvertently pushed kitty onto the floor twice during the night, causing him to cry from the pain of his arthritis. :(
Time for a bigger bed

There is a tornado safety public service announcement that has been showing on TV recently stating what the 5 things you should grab before heading for safety are. I always shout "Gypsy " at the screen. However, since they don't mention "child" either maybe pet is a given....

Some people I know built this CASTLE for their cats. I mean, it looks like a castle. It's huge. It takes up half the room it's in! Obversely, though, I was told they only scoop their litter box -- I think it's one for three cats, which is bad to start -- like once a week or less. But they love their cats. They rescued all of them. *go figure*
:rolleyes3: :fear::gaah:

As bad as I am with getting fingers pinched, whacked, crushed, hammered and sliced I think a tail would not stand a chance with me. It would end up one of those "half off" models.

Speaking of which: I have a new lurker that has showed up with a shortened tail. I have only gotten glimpses of him so far. It's pretty funny though because he is sneaking food and I open the door and everybody else is calmly eating and he totally panics and runs which causes all the others to jump and get fluffy tails. So I ask, where did he go and they are all staring under a bush. I can just hear him murmuring "traitors! how can you tell on me! "

We were so fortunate to have gotten the 1-hectare place with 4-stall barn compound WITH amenities, to which we added. Now THAT was Cat Ranch.
