Great news, we got 37 cats from the shelter in the southern part of the state to that other rescue up north! Yay! Emptied a few cages before this kitten season goes into full effect! They finally have under 50 cats.
Just got word of a pregnant cat at a feral colony so she may be coming to me soon!

Here is the HUGE momma cat
received_156377741718355.jpeg

We met her and her colony today (she has mothered all of them) she is even bigger in person.
We caught one of her 6 month old kittens today to TNR. This is a very well loved and cared for colony. The only cats left to fix is this mom and her 2 6 month old kittens (well now 1)

Oh, wow. She really IS HUGE. How many kittens do you expect? Google tells me the record number of kittens in a litter is 19. :eek2: She looks like she could match that! Hopefully not, for her sake and yours! :crossfingers:

I am thinking at least 6 kittens. Or maybe they are just HUGE babies. We are going tomorrow evening to try to trap her. I am worried about stressing her into labor but it looks like she is due any second! She isn't super feral but she runs when approached. Hopefully this isn't too difficult.

Please weigh her if you are able. I always hear about kitten weights, but I never hear how much a pregnant cat weighs close to term. Do they double in weight, so that a normally 9 pound cat is 18?

When you consider that they weight an average of 8-10 pounds, and with ferals that can be far lower, that's 20-25% of their body weight, or like a 120 pound woman gaining 25-30 pounds.

Right, but when women have 5-6 babies, generally they gain more than 30 pounds.

For those wanting to follow the saga of my pregnant feral momma Mia, I am going to post it in my feral thread Wild And Wonderful Animal Rescue's Feral Cat Tails...
It was an adventure trapping her, we thought she already had her babies and we were going to have to hunt them lol we caught her today though!

Well kitten season is HERE. We get about 5 requests to take in pregnant cats a WEEK. The last of Remi's litter just left (the stayed longer because of the diarrhea). Lexie's babies are going for their spays/neuters on 4/16 and then will start going to homes. All of them but one have homes lined up! We still have super pregnant Mia- our feral. Next Wednesday it looks like we are getting a tuxedo momma and her SEVEN babies and possibly an older litter (11ish weeks) of 4 kittens! We are in full swing! I will be posting lots of pictures and updates as I get them!
