I ordered something (just a cheapo magnet toy) from Amazon but shipped from China. They say they shipped it 3 weeks ago and it's still not here. It took the slow boat from China, I guess, lol. Oh well it's just for fun anyway. For important stuff I try to only order stuff shipped from the Amazon warehouse.

Someone on our local swap shop is looking for a kitten because theirs died. A bunch of people have already posted offering kittens. Not one of them has asked how the original kitten died. That's the first thing I wondered. I wouldn't want to give a kitten to someone if they lost one to irresponsibility or something. It may have been something unavoidable, but I would want to know before offering another one. Or am I just crazy?
:angrycat:No, you are not! That would be my 1st question too.:catrub:

Just checked my Accuweather, and they are predicting snow for tomorrow WITH accumulation, which is fairly rare for coastal North Carolina. Not so much in the mountains, they get lots of snow, darn it. Well, we're snuggled in and cuddled down for the duration (all 23 hours of it). Hekitty is in her heated bed right now, that Santa brought courtesy of a TCS drawing! She has groused a bit that it was just ONE heated bed, when there OUGHT to have been three of them...one for the office (where hers is), one for the living room, and one in the bedroom. Never mind the fact that she sleeps on my bed with the electric blanket...THERE SHOULD BE ONE ANYWAY!

That was certainly my first question when I read the beginning of your post. As for "crazy"? That depends on definitions. By some people's standards everyone here is crazy, because we all love cats.

With street parking you cannot run an extension cord from your car to wherever you have an outlet. The only solution is for the battery to be taken out of the car and brought inside and let the trickle charger run all night. Then put the battery back in the car. Also be sure to scrape the battery posts with steel wool until they are shiny to make sure you have good contact.
Be very careful when you're doing this. My dad wore an identity bracelet, and one day when he was working on the car he managed somehow to get it touching both battery posts at once. He ended up with 3rd degree burns on his wrist.

And keep both the baby and the cats away from the battery entirely. Aislin, too. (I hope I spelled her name correctly.)

Well, duh! Of course the cat should have whatever her little heart desires, in every room of the house. And maybe a couple of extras in storage, just in case. So when does H. Renee say her career is going to start paying enough for her to buy these things for herself?

Most of you know that my husband fell a month or two ago. Fortunately, the only thing broken was his walker, which he landed on. So I found a new walker for him at walgreens.com, pretty much identical to what he already had so we knew it would fit him okay, and by buying two of them we got the order to a high enough price that we got free shipping. (The extra one is sitting in the basement waiting for an emergency.) The entire order came to just $45, which is an extremely good price, IMO.

Anyway, when the walkers came they were packaged separately, in tall cardboard boxes with two packing straps around each box, which left me with four packing straps. Three of them have gone to the trash, but I cut the fourth for Jasmine to use as a toy. It's just the right combination of stiff but flexible to make it writhe enticingly. Are there any dangers I should be aware of?

Also, back before the Site move someone posted a thread about the cat cubby she'd made out of cardboard; it looked rather like a geodesic dome. I now have those lovely big boxes to supply the cardboard; could whoever it is either send me a link (assuming the thread is still there) or re-post?

Thanks. Margret

I think the tide is turning. Last night my son took Onsa into his room to sleep with her. After only 15 minutes of total chaos, Samai went under the blankets and curled up with me. All Night!!
This is a major breakthrough. Maybe she's beginning to like me a little.

It's Aislyn, so you were close. He bought a jump start machine and the car is now running. The temp is back in the positive teens so I don't think we're gonna worry about taking the battery in and out unless it hits the negatives again. We're just gonna keep this thing charged. I'm glad we have it - I hate having to rely on other people for help. The neighbors have their own lives - they're not gonna be around all the time.
I still wanna take it to auto zone tomorrow after my doctor's appointment to get the battery tested. It should still be under warranty since it's only a year old. I hope the alternator is still fine, too. I don't know if that's ever been replaced. The car is a 2001 and I bought it 2 years ago for $800. I had to get the wheel bearings and muffler fixed for $300 before it passed inspection. Other than that and the new battery a year ago, it hasn't had any problems. So I really can't complain much. Who gets that lucky with a cheap car off swap shop?

My order has been shipped :anticipation: The item I bought is made and sold by one seller in the US. It's still supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Is anyone here from Oregon? I just saw a post full of people losing their minds because they might have to pump their own gas. One woman even said it should only be done by specially trained individuals. That cracked me up. I've been pumping gas since I was 5 years old. I used to beg my mom to let me do it. It's just so foreign to me to think of adults who have no idea how to pump gas and are terrified of it. I hope I'm not offending anyone here, but some of these people are just nuts. Talk about an overreaction!

Well, that must be a relief for you! I hate being without a car, and I'm not pregnant!

I think getting the battery tested is a fine idea.

Have the Braxton-Hicks contractions stopped?

They come and go.
So, one of John's managers tried to push for his vacation time to be valid just a bit early because of the baby. As of January 16, he'll have 2 weeks available. Another manager said, "well, they can just have the baby after the 16th" and wouldn't approve it. He can't really think we have any control, can he? I'm just sitting here shaking my head.

I'm not from Oregon, but I used to live there. The law in Oregon is that only a gas station employee can pump gas, and the voters have repeatedly shouted down any attempt to change it. Every time it comes up for a vote the industry trots out stories about gas station explosions caused by untrained people pumping their own gas, but I think the real reason the voters keep retaining the law is that they like being able to go to a proper "service station" (which there are very few of in states that allow self-pumping). It sounds like the woman who was quoted is a native Oregonian and has been listening to all the industry propaganda. Incidentally, when we lived in Oregon gas prices were extremely high because of this law, and, at least in Bend, there were long-standing rumors that the stations were collaborating to fix the prices artificially high.

Well, now I feel kinda be for thinking she was just some kind of idiot. Or maybe not. Don't believe everything you're told - look things up!
A lot I comments were complaining about having to smell like gas all day. Like I said, I've been pumping it since I was a small child. I can't remember a single time when I've ever spilled gas on me. I just think it's so silly!

He may. Many men are remarkably uneducated about female physiology, like that politician who said that when a woman is really raped she can't get pregnant from it. He appeared to actually believe that nonsense, and to be genuinely surprised when he was informed that that's not how it works.

However, the reality is that this manager has a "reason" for his decision that he can use to justify it, and that's probably the most important thing to him. I doubt that he cares whether his "reason" actually makes sense.

I just got gas today. And, yes, I pumped it myself and didn't blow anything up.

To be fair, I have spilled gas on my hands (usually when filling the gas cans for the mower; filling a car is pretty foolproof), but, um, wash your hands? The smell lingers a bit but not that long. Nah, I can't imagine anyone around here wanting full service unless they're disabled but I suppose if someone is used to it they might feel weird about it. But still, that seems kinda silly. I wouldn't want to pay for full service!
