sabian sabian : That is exactly what I have. A dream team, all for this little baby! By the way, Sarah asked me to post this: :wave2:.

trudy1 trudy1 : The website is a great idea, especially as I learn more about how to properly care for a differently-abled cat. I still haven't lost the faith.

Tell Sarah hey for me (that's what we say down south... southern Missouri anyway). She will make a GREAT vet based on her caring attitude.
Still expecting Blackie will defy the odds and show continued improvement... whisper in his ear that I said that tonight before he goes to bed.
Oh, tell Blackie my gang says hey ( Molly (the UPS cat), Dolly, spunky, Henry, sweety, morti and tigger. All rescues and living the good life.
Glad you are considering the web site. I think you have much to share from this journey.

I just wanted to add my support for trying veterinary acupuncture. Our dachshund developed intervertebral disc disease and suddenly lost the use of his hind legs when he was 9. The window of time for surgery is very short—like hours— and it would’ve been several thousand dollars. We chose the medication and crate rest route. He was given Prednisone and a muscle relaxer and I was told to keep him as still as possible. We used a sling made from a scarf to help him potty outside. Anyway, one of the two vets in our practice is a licensed veterinary acupuncturist, and I think we started treatment about 5 days after the paralysis began. Wow, what a difference! Hank started to bear a little weight on his back legs that same week. He went three times a week and she added in electro-acupuncture too. He also had a free round of laser therapy as they were investigating purchasing one and a rep brought it in and used him to demonstrate.
Hank regained the use of his legs completely and could even run again, although his back was always rounded and he lost a lot of muscle in his hindquarters initially. He lived 6 more years.

I don’t know how much time has passed since Blackie’s injury and that does make a difference with treatment options. But I can’t say enough good things about acupuncture and laser therapy. Best wishes!

Good morning everyone and merry Christmas!!! Blackie is no longer Blackie. He has a new name now. Officially he is now Fetén, which in Spanish means excellent, perfect, true and I think that is the perfect name for him.

For Christmas he got a new bed and some toys. He still has not met my other cats just for safety, and tomorrow we will start scheduling his therapy sessions!

Overall, he is happy and settling at home and I am getting better at draining his bladder and stimulating him to poop.

He loves messing with my two dogs and then scooting away to tease them :lol2:

Just know you bless us all by your acceptance of this little guy.

Keep the updates coming. I enjoy getting my blackie/feten "fix" regularly!

We started therapy today. Fetén absolutely loved it. Dr. Angela first put him inside a round magnetic wave thing and he almost fell asleep. This is meant to help with inflammation and to reduce pain. She also did laser therapy afterwards and taught my husband and me a few exercises to do at home, mainly to stimulate his legs.

She also showed me a video of another patient with a worse lesion than Fetén and also older, this cat is now walking. Not a completey normal gait, but walking nonetheless, so I am hopeful.

She recommended therapy twice a week and this Friday is his second session. We also scheduled a consultation with the neurologist who oversaw the MRI on January 3rd to see if surgery is an option or if we should stick with therapy. ... Overall things seem to be shaping up, I would say!

Great news that his therapy has started. Fingers crossed for success, or at the very least significant improvement. :crossfingers:

I have to get used to Blackie being Fetén. I'm not even sure how to pronounce it. Is it "Fee-Ten" or "Fet-en" or something completely different. ;)

Sorry! I should have clarified that! It is pronounced like "fet-en".

I'm soooo glad feten liked his therapy . Praying for good stuff about him in future months!
I wonder what the little guy thinks of all this attention, being loved, well fed and relatively pain free? I've always thought that babies like him would curl up by you, raise his head up and look into your eyes, and say thanks mom. People tell me that kind of stuff is silly but guess I'm just a romantic at heart. Of course I realize he doesn't have lips..... but if he did.....wow

Keep the faith

Second therapy session! This is the magnetic therapy thingy they use on him. He just sits there while some intermittent pulses come and go.

After this, they do laser therapy, a round of electric pulses in his legs (which he still can't feel) and another round of laser therapy.

I wish I could have more pictures to share, but making a kitten sit still keeps my hands full, as all of you know! ;)

He will be going to therapy twice a week for the next few months. I hope to have good news to share soon.

 Yes, this time he just wanted to play and get out of that thing! It was quite a struggle keeping him still. Last time he relaxed and slept right trough it. Thanks for the good vibes!

Remember lots of good exercise before his session to wear him out (as much as possible) might help. I thought maybe the heat (does it warm him up?) might feel so good it would make him sleepy.
Whisper in his ear and tell him he has to take his medicine like a good boy!

Looking for good results in this new year!

Your such a good mom! Kiss his sweet little head for me and sweet kitten dreams!
