Does anyone have a link to the Lite Iodized Salt? I'm adding these things to my shopping cart on Amazon now but since I'm in Canada, I have to spend more money to qualify for free shipping.

And what brand of fish oil is best? I'm scrolling through Amazon but there are so many.

Get this one. It lasts forever and it has no flavor. Iceland Pure Unscented Pharmaceutical Grade Sardine Anchovy Oil For Dogs and Cats.Bottle Size 33oz That's the large size or get the 9 ounce. It'll last quite a while. I can't find the smaller one. I'm sure a link is above. It has a pump. 33 ounces will last you at least 6 months to a year expires 2010. I keep it in the fridge.

Lite salt. Morton Salt Lite Salt, Less Sodium, 11 oz (Pack of 1)

:hijack:Just a quick note on the Green bottle fish oil. It's great for dogs too. The 33 ounce is a really good price. We have a yorkie with bad allergies. It made her coat super glossy and she's not constantly scratching(we nicknamed her thumper). At least a 70% improvement and many many sprays and washes were tried.

My cat is allergic to fish and can take it with no reactions. She doesn't get fish breath. She's got allergies and they are mild right now with significantly less scratching.

:hijack:Last thought if you need a few bucks more to finish the order and haven't tried kong it's great. KONG ZoomGroom, Cat Grooming Brush You can use on dogs and cats but removes tons of loose cat hair at an amazing price.

That bottle is too much for me. Cheapest bottle on Amazon.ca is $50. Remember I live in Canada so it's different and the products vary.

The salt also wouldn't work out. The cheapest bottle I found on Amazon.ca in that brand is $100+.

Jamieson Wild Salmon & Fish Oils Omega-3 Complex 1,000 mg
How about this? Or the other fish oil in this brand? I also took a picture of the salt I have in my kitchen cabinet. It's iodized. Will it work still?

You want lite salt, even the generic brand from your grocery store.

Here's the smaller size on oil. Iceland Pure Unscented Pharmaceutical Grade Sardine Anchovy Oil For Dogs and Cats.Bottle Size 8.75oz

If that's the most reasonable oil you can afford then go for it. You usually want try avoiding salmon and go with small fish but you can improvise.

Lite salt label should look like this. IMG_5854.JPG
It's potassium and sodium. Even a generic store brand is fine.

Yeah, even the small bottle is really expensive. The Jameson should be fine though? Someone in an earlier post mentioned wild salmon or fish oil so I thought it would be fine.

Good morning, y'all! I got sleepy last night and went to bed.

Sea salt does not naturally have iodine, so it won't work. The salt is for the iodine. It is mixed table salt and potassium chloride to lower the sodium. You can use iodized table salt...I think that you use half, but would have to look that up. One of the recipes says how much regular iodized salt to use.

On fish: I buy the small tins of sardines, and the larger cans of salmon and mackerel for Omega-3's instead of using fish oil. On Sunday, I split a can of sardines between the cats, or weigh out 2 ounces of fish for each cat of the larger cans (the dog eats the rest). All the fish I buy is packed in water, but I can't find unsalted in water (which would be better). I rinse the fish, but there is still quite a bit of salt left I'm sure. If you can find unsalted tins of fish packed in water, that would be best. That puts some Omega-3 in their diet, but they would be getting more Omega-3's by using the oil.

Thanks! I figured you had gone to bed. So did I. I read that you use half of the iodized salt. Not sure if I'm going out today because my mom is working all day so if this is what I can use, it would help a lot. That's the brand my mom buys all the time too. I'd like to try the fish capsules. My order still needs $2 and some cents for free shipping. :bawling2:

I think that because Valentine's cat has such horrible reactions to anything "fish", except the distilled oils, she is more wary. She also did a lot of research, so I'm certain the brand she recommends is the best of the best, quality wise. If you cats have no allergy to fish, the purchase what you can afford (or feed fish). The important components in the oil are the DHA/EPA levels. They should be 300mg or more of the 1000mg fish oil. The more expensive brands have more DHA/EPA, but you can probably use less....actually, you may need to use more of the one's with lower DHA/EPA.

I'm out of my depth on the fish oil discussion (so I just feed fish). I'll leave that back to Valentine. She did study fish oils without her head exploding over the differences in brands, like mine did. :p

The tinned fish will be a better option than the cheaper fish oil.

Look for sardines in water.

Otherwise if you can afford this or just bookmark.

There's issues with toxins in fish oil capsels and even some Dr prescribed gone rancid. If you can do tinned sardines in water I'm sure that's a great.

I just did a very quick search for "lite salt in Canada"...the first article listed Biosalt, Lite Salt, LoSalt and NoSalt. These are "salt substitutes" and I didn't take time to see if any of the others are similar in ingredients to Morton's Lite Salt, but I'm sure Canada must have something like the Morton's for less than your Amazon price is showing.

Losalt is off on the percentages.

Nusalt and Nosalt are just potassium. You would need a small precision scale to mix either with regular salt.

I thought that might have been the case. A lot of what I'm ordering won't arrive until late August and I can't wait that long. Might have to run to the store today so I can pick up the salt then. So I'm looking for salt with at least 40% iodine and both potassium and sodium. Correct?

Here's a couple ideas on the Salt. You're looking for sodium and potassium blend.

Sobey's under the name "Half-Salt" http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/catalog/images/WindsorHalfSalt20141.JPG

Other person in Canada says: Half Salt at Safeway, IGA, Your Indepedent Grocery.

You're trying to stay around those percentages.
IMG_5854.JPG

I believe it comes out to 45% salt and 55 % potassium. If you can only find nosalt you can mix 55% nosalt (or nusalt if it's just potassium) with 45% salt you have at home.
