I keep getting Loryn Brantz poems suggested to me in my Facebook feed and I swear this lady just gets me. I saved this one today.
I agree with you, often those arrogant ____________(fill in the blank) have the brains to back it up but what is gained in being so arrogant. I have seen people blacklisted for refusing to see an arrogant doctor. One specialist had a waiting list of 10 years because he was a decent human being. What the heck?I've worked with a few who had God complexes. Most frustrating people on earth. One was especially so. He had two physician's assistants who would, when they arrived, run ahead of him and THROW open the doors for him to stride through. One of my fellow respiratory therapists looked up one day when the doors flung opened, and drawled, "Well, well, well, it's Doctor D and his seraphim!" The entire ER broke into laughter. The guy was a jacka$$, without the intelligence that most of those remarkable animals have.
This was a long time ago now, but the wait time in my area to get any doctor if you don't have a doctor is 3 years and that is if you don't move. Move and you go back to the bottom of a new list. When I was 20 I went to see a skin specialist for a rash that turned out to be poison sumac. I sat in the office everyday at the end of the doctors day to see if he might have a cancellation. The reason I did this is I was told by his receptionist that his wait list was so long that if he could see all the patients on his list he would be retired. And back then he was a young skin specialist right out of school. He was fantastic to deal with, knowledgeable and a fine person.rrfe Meow, post: 5789130, member: 10079359"]

10yrs? Hope he has young patients- my age group might not be seeing anyone in 10yrs!
It's very sad thst anyone would have to go through such nonsense to see any physician-if they are at their capacity then they simply cannot take on new patients and must organize accordingly to accommodate the patients they do have in a timely manner- it just tells me they are extremely greedy,I don't care how nice, how good they are at what they do - there comes a certain time you must decide how to manage your time when you are at the limit of booking the maximum- doesn't matter what business you are in when you are providing a service to people..... not in my worldThis was a long time ago now, but the wait time in my area to get any doctor if you don't have a doctor is 3 years and that is if you don't move. Back when I was in college, I took an anatomy and physiology course. In the 3rd quarter, there was a conflict between the lecture class and another course's 3-hour lab, so I had to take the telephone session after hours(Internet? What's that? It was 1973, after all). So for the final exam, because of the conflict, the professor let me take it home to do. I found there were questions on it that had not been covered in the after hours session, but I did them anyway. I took the test back to the prof. and he handed me the answer sheet and told me to grade it. When I gave it back to him, he just glanced at it, then told me that I had been his guinea pig. I had A's for the first 2 quarters, and he wanted to see if there was a fall off going from in-class to remote learning. There wasn't, so it validated his remote course material.I had to take training for work this morning. It was online and "go at your own pace". Normally after the training, they let you print out a cheat sheet to use for the test. I was hurriedly going through the training not really reading anything to get to the cheat sheet. Got to the end of the training and there was no cheat sheet!! I basically said "screw it" and went ahead and took the test. I passed!! I only missed 3 questions which amazing since I guessed on nearly 70% of them. Maybe I'll play the lottery today because it must be my lucky day!!
Those were the days when you needed a mind, lol Now they can sit at home online courses AND use their phone to look up what they don't know( which is mostly everything I believe)Back when I was in college, I took an anatomy and physiology course. Two number 2 pencils and scratch paper to do calculations, but you had to show all your work. Also, back then a simple pocket calculator was nearly $100, but they weren't allowed. Those were the days when you needed a mind, lol Now they can sit at home online courses AND use their phone to look up what they don't know( which is mostly everything I believe)
Geez, all I could bring to class was a pencil- I'm sure you remember those times
No no,no calculators allowedTwo

I somehow always managed to erase a hole in my paper. No no,no calculators allowed
And I was so happy when they did permit us to use scrap paper because I remember not being allowed ,you had a tiny place on your worksheet to calculate or formulate - that was it!you had to erase over n over super neatly too,I used to barely press on my pencil so as not to make it hard to erase if need be and then when satisfied write normally- rofl
Do you remember the 60s/70s Wang calculators? Those things could compute to 12 figures, but like the phones of the times, they were tethered to the central unit, and were the size of one of those office desk phones. There were (I think) eight of them kept in a small room off of a corridor in the Science building. In a pinch, however, I could always break out my slide rule- my first cordless device.I somehow always managed to erase a hole in my paper.
When I was in kindergarten, they introduced us to the "newest and latest" computers--those huge, late 80's dinosaur Apple Computers. I don't really remember them doing anything super cool but the little apple on the opening screen had a bite out of it and I always wondered who took that bite, LOL.
Not all classes. With my son's courses, if you don't have a mind, you are not going to make it. There is no looking up or faking it with Calculus, Physics or Organic Chemistry. Even his Zoology classes, although easy for him, a lot of students are suffering. Next year is Bio-Chem. I feel for him.Now they can sit at home online courses AND use their phone to look up what they don't know( which is mostly everything I believe)
Sadly there are quite a few "help" apps out there thst do solve the problems of all of the above BUT it's refreshing to know there's a young man that uses his brilliant mind AND does not seek an easy way out, which someone like myself would consider " cheating'Not all classes. I never thought that biochem was that bad, but neither was it easy. I took organic chem, bio chem, analytical chem, microbiology, hematology, histology, anatomy and physiology (I was the only guy in that one- and married), plus some throw-ins like anthropology and psychology. He is working on his Bachelors of Science right now. He wants to go into Zoology with an emphasis on preservation/conservation probably as a Herpatologist. He still has a year left to decide specifics before his Masters. He has already been offered a Research something or another thingy where he gets paid (something like 40k a year) along with a full scholarship all while he goes for his Masters. But he has to wait until he finishes his BS to do that. Right now he's got a full scholarship for his BS with a 3.96GPA. Had a 4.0 until Calc.Sadly there are quite a few "help" apps out there thst do solve the problems of all of the above BUT it's refreshing to know there's a young man that uses his brilliant mind AND does not seek an easy way out, which someone like myself would consider " cheating'
Is he starting his undergraduate work now, what field is he interested in?
You must be very proud of your son-its really nice to hear of a young man with ambition, direction and working towards his goal.... Bravo! He is working on his Bachelors of Science right now.
