In Texas, we use the turn signal levers to hang our "gimme" hats on. I thought that was why they were there! Besides, using turn signals takes a lot of fun out of our freeway demolition derbies. There's nothing like a good game of chicken to keep you alert, especially in the morning when you don't want to spill your coffee.
You should see the way people drive in rural Japan.

Here, yellow means go faster to beat the red. Red means three or four more cars can go through the light. If we move as soon as the light changes to green, we're going to get smacked.

Some time back there was an accident at a popular intersection. An ambulance was called. As it went through the intersection, a light jumper hit it. A second ambulance was called, and it, too, was hit at the same intersection. The third ambulance made it, but only because the traffic was completely blocked by then by the other three accidents.

In Mexico, the first person to flash his headlights at a one-lane bridge has the right-of-way. It's said that "peligroso" (danger) actually means "overloaded bus passing on a mountain curve with no guardrail." That's pretty accurate.

A lot of things 'tic' me off, but the one thing that makes me totally blow my cool is when I hear young people use the word 'much'. I don't mean in a proper sentence, I mean like "jealous much"? or if you're cold and wearing a jacket they will say "jacket much"?
What does this even mean?
Is it so incomprehensible for them to form an articulate question and use more than two words?
Did these people ever get past third grade English?

That, and people who bring their pets into the grocery store. I realize I live in a small town, however, this to me is totally unacceptable. And I don't mean the dogs who are in training for service or established service dogs, I mean pup who isn't even leash trained, or the chihuahua that barks at everyone. I have never been into the store when someone doesn't have their pet. The manager of the stores all say "better than leaving them in the car". I have an idea....leave them at home.

There's supposed to be a law about bringing animals into establishments, but it doesn't seem to be enforced. People are getting more blatant about it, too. Managers just look the other way. There are restaurants where dogs are welcome at the outside tables. I'm OK with that as long as the owners don't set the dishes down for the dogs to eat out of.

Another thing that makes me red-purple furious is screeching, screaming babies and kids who run around in a restaurant as if it were McDonald's playland. The parents pay them no attention, and the servers have to do a dance to avoid them while carrying a heavy tray. You can bet if the little darlings got hurt, the restaurant would be sued.

We were at a Golden Corral where there was a baby constantly screeching and screaming at the top of its considerable lungs. The kid was so loud it could be heard clearly all over the restaurant, and there was no place to move. The parents did nothing to quiet it. They should have taken the kid out until it quieted down, or left if it didn't. I complained nicely to the waiter and then directly to the manager. He told me they were guests in the restaurant, too, and he wasn't going to upset them by asking them to do something about their child. I replied that we and our friends were regular customers and asked which was more valuable. He didn't reply and nothing was done.

I must be getting old and cranky because when kids or people are too rowdy, I'll loudly say "shhhh!" Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I don't like it when people call other people stupid. I know I'm not very bright but it is still hurtful when other people insinuate that I'm stupid.

I know, that happened on my mother's grave near her birthday. When I hear of things like this, I wonder if I am living on another planet.
The very first plant I ever put on my father's grave was stolen. I was just beside myself. What I have done ever since is put the plants in a rectangle-shaped planter and strapped it to the headstone. Pathetic, but it has worked. My mother put a plant there last Sunday and by Tuesday it was gone. :(

The thing with the dogs in stores is really unusual. I know here that isn't done outside of pet stores. All of the pet stores allow pets to be brought in. The occasional service dog is all I have seen in stores other than a pet store.

Call it a "service dog" and people can do whatever they want. This is the age of entitlement.

Yep. I have been in two restaurants in this little community where I live and seen "service dogs." One was legitimate, the other was some kind of prissy little yapper. They even brought the dog bed.

I can top that. There is an elderly couple who adopted a small dog, a shitz zoo (sp) sorry.. He is very cute, but they are so attached to it.

They never leave the dog at home. It accompanies them everywhere. I mean everywhere!! I feel bad for the dog, because it really wants to run around sometimes, and obviously, they cannot allow it to run. This dog is sweet and has a ton of energy.

The dog is well mannered, however, They take it to CHURCH!! to all the Masses!!! and all the functions!

At the quietest, most solemn, times, you can hear the dog bark!!

They get away with this by putting a 'service dog' logo on his harness.

When asked about the specifications of service; the reply is, after the husband had cardiac surgery, he was very depressed. His doctor suggested getting a small dog. Now, that dog is termed, by the owners, as a 'service' dog...

Now, At church we feel really bad, because the husband suddenly passed away, and now this elderly woman has nothing but the dog. I think they have a daughter, but I have never seen her around.

Sad..

Kind of gets you annoyed and aggravated when the dog barks, growls, yips, during Mass... but what can you do...

Legally speaking, even a legitimate Service Dog can be asked to leave (just the dog not the owner) if the dog is disruptive or ill-behaved. Of course at church I imagine the pastor would be reluctant to ask a lonely old lady to take the dog out, but legally that is allowed.

I'm not talking about church or a pet store, I'm talking about Walmart. A week ago there was a man and a son buying leashes for their dogs. They had a dog bed in the cart with two 3-4 month old dogs. These are not service dogs. And this in only 1 of many cases I see.

PS. I have to shop at Walmart or I don't eat. There is only one other grocery store and they don't carry very much and they are super expensive.

The way I understand it there are Service Dogs and Therapy Dogs. Any dog can be with a doctors blessing a therapy dog. There are specific requirements for a Service Dog. There are certification requirements for the dog and the owner is also certified as needing a service dog. Therapy dogs don't have the same access protections that service dogs have. Of course someone can get one of those vests, put Service Dog on it and go where they please. People aren't going to question them.

Walmart could keep them out; they choose not to. My brother works at Walmart and he says they're told not to question anyone entering with a small dog or other small animal (that can be held or put in a bag). I guess they made their choice about what they'll allow.

Only Service Dogs have public access. There is no certification process; this would exclude too many disabled people. All online certification sites are scams. But a Service Dog must be trained to do at least 3 things to mitigate their owner's disability, and must be well-behaved. A store owner is allowed to ask: "is that a Service Dog?" And "what is the dog trained to do?" Those are the only questions allowed. It is illegal to lie about this but it's not up to the store owner to say they're lying. Only dogs are allowed to be Service Animals, except some people with severe allergies are allowed to use a Mini Horse instead. But there are very few of those so it shouldn't come up ;). If the dog behaves badly they can be asked to leave. No other kind of animal is legally allowed public access.

EXCEPT that some people are allowed to travel with their Emotional Support Animals. This only applies to travel (planes, buses, trains, etc.), not stores and stuff.

Therapy Animals are the ones who go to hospitals and nursing homes and such. No certification is legally required but the individual hospital/etc. may require certification to ensure the animal has been proven to have the right temperment and training.

Emotional Support Animals are allowed to live in no-pets housing. That's the only special privilege they get. You need a "prescription" from your mental health professional. They can be of any species. They do NOT get public access. I think this is where a lot of people get confused.

But anyway. Businesses can choose to enforce the existing regulations, but many don't because they don't want the hassle. Their choice. But if there's an animal being disruptive, nothing wrong with reporting that to an employee.

I guess it depends on the program. There is an organization here in Columbus that is a nonprofit and supplies dogs to the blind. They are very thorough. They have pre-selected foster homes for the small puppies socialization. They then spend 6 months training the dog, they can often be seen downtown while in training. They then match the dogs with their owner. The dog and owner go through a month long training program together. They occasionally have dogs for adoption that washed out of the training program. They are perfectly fine healthy dogs that make good pets they just weren't cut out to be seeing eye dogs.

Yesterday it was printers! Mother Dragon knows the story because we PM back and forth quite a bit, but for those who don't, my printer died. Well, the printhead bit the dust. Now I just went through this about three years ago, too, and it's frustrating. I took the printhead out, cleaned it (carefully, of course) and re-installed it. Only to get the same dialogue. I kept taking it out and re-installing it. Shutting the printer off, unplugging the printer. Starting it back up again. Blah, blah, blah. Checking things out online to see if I was doing something wrong. Nothing. And I still have a bad printhead.

I have a ton of unopened ink for this printer (ink not even six months old) and ink is expensive. So I looked online for printheads. *gulp* For the price of a blasted printhead, I could buy a new printer. So, I found an older printer at Staples that still takes the same ink cartridges, bought it and it should be here by Friday. :sigh: That was an experience in itself, trying to find a printer. For the same price as what the printhead would have cost. I even talked to my BIL, who is my computer guru, and he said, "Just save yourself the aggravation; buy another printer and be done with it. These days, printers are considered to be disposable." Seriously? Suffice to say that I blew my afternoon with blasted printer problems.

What do you guys do in a situation like that? Surely I cannot be the only one who has had printhead problems, am I? Is it an HP thing? This is the second time I've had that happen and had to buy another printer! I think it's a HP racket, to be honest. And isn't it convenient that when HP develops new printers, they must develop new ink cartridges for them, too? So no more expensive printers; from now on, I'm buying the absolute cheapest printers I can find!
I hate HP printers. Every one we've had has been a problem.

I have a friend who is like that with their 4 (I've lost count) Maltese dogs. They baby them (she even dresses them up in those stretchy, footed things infants wear- Baby-Gro??). She doesn't do that around me, and claims she doesn't, but I saw a Facebook pic once. Anyway, they won't leave the dogs at home, as the dogs will get upset. No wonder--you've never trained them not to, because you never leave them at home! Now, I do like dogs, and, when they had only two, I kind of liked having the dogs over. The cats did not, except for Marge, who would play with them. The dogs weren't the problem--my friend and her husband were--they would let the dogs run around the house with the leashes dragging, which I thought was dangerous. That wasn't so bad, though--it was her constant running after them, trying to control them, fussing about it, arguing with the husband over canine "child-rearing" practices (this is her 2 husband ; she does not and won't able to have kids with him for various reasons). I realize that she was probably trying to be respectful of my house by being a helicopter "parent", but it drove me nuts. I actually was laid-back about the dogs running around. I thought it was fun, and I expect a certain amount of activity with visiting pets and kids. I'm fine with that!

They always leave early, because the they think the dogs are being bad. Oh, did I mention that the one dog wears a diaper, even though he's young? I AM glad, though, that they leave before I have to see a doggie diaper-change.

On top of this, I think they gave us fleas the last time they were here, over a year ago. We never had fleas in our house, and my cats are indoor, as well.

This is my best friend, and it makes socialising so difficult. She won't leave the husband at home, either, and DH and I dislike him, although he's always been very polite to us. Long story, but we just don't care for him. So, since she won't leave hubby at home to care for the dogs while she's away, I get the whole package.

Every one I've had has been a POS. Especially the all-in-one wireless. Every time I want to print, I have to haul it to my computer, plug it up and re-install it, because it says it's off line. What's the point in wireless then?

We've had great success with our Epsons. For lasers, we have Brothers. We've been satisfied with all of them. No breakdowns, easy setup. We buy our inks and cartridges online at a pretty good savings. We do NOT use refilled cartridges. You never know what they're refilled with or if they're correctly filled.
