...with the cats...
@MelsBabies --i'm so sorry that your boy is having this kind of medical issue. it might be something to consider to get a second opinion from a different vet --- just like many people do when faced with a serious medical issue. sometimes a different vet will notice or catch something that the original vet missed. do you know any other people who have any cats, that you feel they take very good care of them? maybe someone like that would have a vet they go to who they consider "very good" or "excellent".

my two cats (one crossed the rainbow bridge about a year and a half ago) have/had various serious medical issues -- IBD, CKD, diabetes, idiopathic hypercalcemia. like many/most cat parents, i research and read a lot online about these medical conditions. i've been where you're at, delirious from being up all night on line reading into the possibility of my cats condition. in my experience, it's best to make sure we get the rest we need and also to limit (to some extent) how long we spend researching online. i've found that i need to take good care of myself so i can continue to take good care of my cat. this is especially important for long-term illnesses and diseases, because with time it's easy to develop "caregiver/compassion fatigue".

edited to add:  i just found your other thread, about having your boy seen by another vet today. sending
that this vet is able to treat the condition.

Sebastian is hanging in there. We had to do a few temporary things to help him through and he seems to be on the upswing. ::knock on wood::

MelsBabies, it really is terrible that these vets just administer the shot without considering their health and well-being. What you are going through is just awful and I'm so sorry. Admittedly, I've been giving Sebastian a top to bottom inspection almost daily after reading your thread.

@GoHolistic, so happy about this! Hope the upswing continues.

Today I just read what MelsBabies is going through and it breaks my heart. I hope her boy pulls through this terrible ordeal. It really is awful that these vets administer shots without considering what's best for the animal.

Finally some good news. At least we know Sebastian has a solid immune system regardless of his other issues which is always a plus.

You've been through the wringer... You should treat yourself to a break one day - maybe a spa session for some relaxation and rejuvenation.

Continued success!!

Thank you all.. So much. Glad Sebastian's immune system is in the clear, Praise God! My boy is definitely giving us a fight to pull through this. He even moved from the corner of the bed to my side at night as he normally did to sleep next to me. It's another miracle. This is the same cat that twoVeternary specialist tried to get me to put down 4 days ago.. And here he is, going strong, little by little making a come back. He requires alot of patience, love, and attention at this time. And I have that & some for him. He will make a miraculous turn around, cause my faith is strong, I am reading to word of God to uphold me during this time, and the miracles that he creates when you believe, is setting I know I can rely on. I spoke with a Homeopathic doctor from Australia, and ordered 3 products that are amazing for Helping with the anemia, as well as blood and liver. I also will be purchasing a product they have that detoxes him from the metals etc. that cause the side effects of the Vaccine. I am eager to begin treatment, and will be receiving these products tomorrow (amen). He is currently eating from a syring a blend of organic chicken liver, pure pumpkin (canned/teaspoon), warm water, and sometimes I infuse with iron supplement Pet- tinic. He is using the litter box again, and pooping solid a little bit. I am a little concerned with the condition of his teeth, they look a little discolored, more so the back ones. I'm also concerned at times with his breathing.. Especially after he walks slowly to use the litter box. I read any exercise at this time is overly exhausting, being that he is still anemic, and just had a blood transfusion. Is it normal for the vain where it was given to be darker and more visible on his arm a few days later? Any support is always greatly appreciated. Thank you.. Praying everyone is well, and so are your furry angels. [emoji]10024[/emoji][emoji]128591[/emoji][emoji]10084[/emoji]

It's not the vet's job to enforce the law, that is reserved for animal care and control. Nor is it their job to enforce licensing (tho some vets will submit applications on your behalf with your proof of rabies). Any fines or warnings about not being vaccinated will come from the state (ACC), so it sounds like your doctor is just being a giant PIA.

I'd go to the appointment and refuse the vaccine and just say "I will handle the issue with ACC on my own, but thank you for the recommendation". The vet isn't breaking any laws by not vaccinating your cat, it's technically your responsibility to have your pet vaccinated, so if you refuse it has nothing to do with the doctor.

At least... that's how it works in my state.

I have 3 animals that see the vet relatively regularly.  They all have chronic conditions that make me cautious about giving them vaccines.

My vet has been flexible for a few reasons:
  1.  they are not "healthy" animals
  2. they are indoor/backyard only so they are low risk for "contact diseases"
  3. we don't live in a high risk area for rabies
  4. she has a good understanding of the law language; she knows she is not responsible for enforcing the law, and she is only responsible for reporting IF there is an "incident".  Since my animals are fairly used to the vet and being handled, the risk of incidents is pretty low.  (One of the older techs even told me she loves to play with Pippen's paws and show off his unclipped claws to the newbies when they draw his blood
    ).
  5. It also helps that we've been her clients for about 10 years, and we've discussed everything from food to pain meds (no Rimadyl!) to vaccines.  I respect her expertise in surgery, diagnosis and treatment, and she respects me as a fairly well informed client.
As for my other 2 animals... well, they just don't go in unless there's a super good reason for it.

@furmonstermom I want to advise you to look into Homeopathic alternatives to treat the condition of your Chronic kitties illness. Whatever it is, they have a cure for it. Hampl is the name of the company, and I'm telling you, it has saved my cats life! 4 vets told me to put him down, a perfectly healthy cat before the vaccines, who ate all healthy foods took vitamins, and drank purified water! Yet they over looked ALL possibilities, and a week later, my boy is on his way to a FULL RECOVERY! It's amazing, all from topical homeopathic medicine. And iron supplements. He wasn't showing ANY improvement on the antibiotics they gave me for him. He was getting worst day by day.. Even his breathing was deep and vigorous, it armed me. His gums were pale, paws were pale, he looked awful. He wasn't even eating on his own or drinking and his saliva was thick and pasty! Behavior changes were just as dramatic, he wouldn't even look at me when I called him by name... And it's only been 3 days on the homeopathic medicine, and his recovery is remarkable! I almost can't believe it. He is eating alot on his own, using the litter box, his paws and gums are pink again, he is responding to his name, etc. it's such a blessing! This would not be the case without these drops, I'm telling you. The drops and my faith in God is what helped heal my boy. I am sooo grateful, and want to share the testimony I have with others who are in dire need of direction with their pets health. Go to their site, and search by their condition and see what you find. Their prices are reasonable, I paid 35$ per medicine, the Rabies Detox was 28$... It varies per medicine. Anything beats the prices these vets charge to run test and screening. Plus you stress out your cat for what? I wouldn't take my cat to a vet ever, unless I knew it was life threatening and they needed to be stabilized, yet even then I would dictate what I want done, and not let them do whatever they want. Knowledge is power! We gotta be the voice for the voiceless! They depend on us. Doing the right thing for them is crucial.
