Excellent, arouetta arouetta ! Although I hate that you are going through the stress-fractures, of all the things that COULD have been found, those are more PITAs than BIG HORRID THINGS.

Quiet day today. I must go nap..

Very true, and no one has said (to my knowledge) what kind of cancer it was. The thing that bothers me about this is that she was alone. Generally, when terminal cancer has been diagnosed, a person dies in a hospital or hospice, or at home but with some kind of caregiver. Except, of course, if one has no insurance, no money, and no family to take care of you. And in that situation, the chances are high that one doesn't visit the doctor to get a diagnosis. I hope she wasn't in too much pain, but I strongly suspect that she was. :(

News:
Heart - just fine. Woohoo!
Brain - stable. Woohoo!
Shoulder - stress fractures. Ouch, literally. Doctor is sending me to an orthopedic surgeon. He doubts I'll need surgery but is convinced I will need PT; either way I need a specialist.

Back to lurking.
Good luck and I hope it feels better soon!

Alright, so earlier in the afternoon (sorry, kind of collapsed after it), AWM and I got all four kitties up to the vet for rabies. (We had to make two trips, and I know it's not safe to only have two carriers, but I'm working on getting more.) Anyway, most of the cats were fine (a little nervous and needing treats and comfort, but fine), but Spot was oddly groggy after his shot. It took a few hours for him to get back to normal (and yes, he's still mad at me). He wasn't groggy last year, after his shots, so it seems strange to me. :headscratch:

Yes some kitties get groggy after having shots. It should get better in a day or so.

Well I am hunting down a lawyer to help me with my rights in regards to the pension. Jon is worried that it could get liquidated since we both worked at the same employer. I am hopeful in getting some kind of answer. I was under the assumption that there were laws passed after the Enron debacle but I could be wrong.

Nervous about his future. He spent 46 years there and now it could be taken away. I also got the notice in the mail about the chapter 11. So let's hope that there's some kind of protections but if not I told him I would never leave him high and dry. But he would have to drive the bus while I work so to speak. One plan is to join a real union and go on the road for work. I really don't want to do that. But unless there's stable work in my area I will have no choice but to pick up the house and move to where there's employment.

My nerves are shot.

foxxycat foxxycat That is terrible.. I wonder if the Labor Board could help out? Or advise you about the pension part. Or who to contact about it.

They could even advise you about the Chapter 11..

I bet. Deep sympathy, and I agree with artiemom artiemom . It's well worth asking the Labor Board; they may have the information you need, without the necessity of paying a lawyer.

There are definitely some protections. A Google search produced this: Company Is Going Bankrupt. What About My Pension? - Good Financial Cents

On April 1st, a guy got a ticket at Falls Park for putting his baby ball pythons on the ground instead of holding them. I took note of that because I have 3 ball pythons and thought that was ridiculous. BPs aren't very fast, and I'm sure he was standing very close by to make sure they didn't escape.
Man receives unusual fine for his pet snake

Then I went to Falls Park on Sunday and he was there again (not putting his snakes down, lol) taking collections to cover his legal bills (he intends to fight the ticket, not pay it), so I went to talk to him. Nice guy! He had a large adult boa constrictor, a baby boa, several ball pythons, and a box turtle with him. I got to hold the baby boa, the one in the pic in the article. He says his story went national very quickly---due to the ridiculousness of it---and he's getting a lot of donations. He said he has an online fundraiser going but I can't find it. But it was cool to talk to him anyway.

The boys are still having a bit of tension downstairs, Montressor spooks easy and Midway stalks him. I may do some more territory swapping to work on that. Upstairs though they are now doing fine. What made me sure was the following event.

  • Midway was lying on the bed taking a bath.
  • Montressor walked up and whacked him on the top of the head with his paw.
  • Midway ignored him, still taking a bath.
  • Montressor hit him repeatedly on top of the head; all the while Midway kept taking a bath.
  • Midway finally looked up from the bath and gave me a look that just said "Really? Really??" as he was being hit repeatedly on the head.
  • Midway snapped at his paw a couple of times as Montressor kept smacking him on top of the head.
  • Midway gave up his half-hearted attempt to bite Montressor's paw and went back to taking a bath.
  • Montressor gave up smacking him on top of the head and lay down right next to Midway.

LOL...there's nothing like boredom to promote either hijinks or peace....looks like peace won this time, arouetta arouetta !

foxxycat foxxycat Dear heavens, what a mess. Hope all goes well on this. I'll be thinking of you. About the best I can do!

I have noticed lately how very verbal Hekitty has gotten over the past couple of years. Up until then, I never heard a peep out of her. Other than a purr so soft it could only be felt, not truly heard. Then, out of nowhere, she started "talking" to me ALL THE TIME, and with an amazing array of different vocalizations! There are meows in several tones, mrrps, meeps, mews, grumbles, and a few choice words that can't be repeated in polite company. I know that's what they are because the only time I hear them is when she asks for a treat and I say, "NO! You just had one, you have to wait!" And she mumbles something foul and STOMPS off to pout. I think I'm enjoying this phase of her life. OH, and she has begun enjoying and demanding belleh rubs, which she would never even tolerate! Now, if only she would let me clip her claws! They are really overgrown, but I don't have a way to the emergency room, and she doesn't mind sending me there when she is totally displeased.

Okay, now some of you may be wondering, "Where's jennifurr?" To be honest, I am going through some major stuff. I plan on moving within the next few months, meaning I may leave the animal shelter I am in now, because our home is in a different county in Ohio. We are moving closer to my husband's workplace as the plan. Although there's another shelter like the one I'm at now (thinking of volunteering there), it will probably hurt me to say goodbye to all of the cats and volunteers there.

Even more unfortunate, even though I am taking Kiki with me, I may have to leave behind Molly and Sammy, because technically, they weren't my cats, they belong to my in-laws first; I didn't own them until about 3 years ago when I moved into my husband's current home. They have looked up to me since, but it is really sad because I really wanted to take them both with me along with Kiki, and they will figure out that a special loved one will no longer be in the house. I don't even know or want to think about this situation anymore, I wish saying goodbye was easier...:frown:

Okay, so this morning, before I went to bed, Spot brought me a living baby bunny. Again. (This one was much less injured than the first one, and very energetic. I cleaned up the scratches and let it go.) So far this spring he's brought me two rabbits and a squirrel. Now, I'm not complaining, and I give my brave (I think) little hunter treats and praises for his "gifts", but why is he bringing them to me? :headscratch:

Well, I thought the cats would avoid the carriers after going to the vet (which they clearly didn't enjoy), but they keep playing with them. It's fun to watch. Speaking of the vet, I was going over their paperwork and looking over the cats' weight. Ra is 11.5 pounds, Spot is 10.5, Asia is 7.5, and Princess is 4.5. I find it difficult to believe that Princess is only four and half pounds. I think it more likely that she was bouncing on the scale.

Two words: Online ordering. The only enjoyable time I've ever had shoe shopping was ordering online.

My shoes never fit right as a kid, too much toe room and too much gap in the heel. Found out why when I was 14 - I signed up for the basketball team and back then there was no such thing as women's basketball shoes. Every other girl had to get special inserts to fit the men's basketball shoes correctly. Not me, turns out I had wide width feet and fit men's athletic shoes perfectly.

But finding wide width shoes is a painful process, especially if you want something other than athletic shoes. Payless Shoe Source does stock them, but they tend to be uglier than regular shoes and those shoes fall apart fast. Then my work revised their dress code and one item was that women's shoes could have a heel no higher than 2 inches, as measured from the back of the heel. Manufacturers measure from the front of the heel (or where it should be, in the case of wedges), so going by the back adds about half an inch. Yep, shoes that short are even harder to find than wide width.

And then despite being Gen X, the generation that grew up with home computers (I was programming in Basic in 6th grade), for some reason online ordering never occurred to me until 2 years ago. I tried it, it was awesome!!! Picked out my size, saw a bunch to choose from, and they were cute! Wide width dress shoes that were cute! I could then narrow down by other selections (heel height, color, toe type, price, etc) and I still had a decent selection and they were still cute! And the pictures were very good shots from every possible angle so I could know exactly what I was ordering. They came, they were comfortable as heck, they fit the dress code and they were cute!

I got a job offer following the interview so fast that I absolutely had to get a pair of work shoes that I could be on my feet all day in earlier than online ordering would allow so I had to look locally last year. Found a nice shoe store, the shoes don't quite break the three figure range but they come close. Went to get my husband some work shoes earlier this year, between the return and the following online order I ended up with a $10 gift card. Went there today planning on using the gift card towards some nice sandals, since I have some casual dresses now. The only wide width sandals looked like flip flops. I then looked at dress shoes now that I'm applying for office jobs again. No wide width shoes.

I had a little talk with the general manager, who told me that corporate decided there was no market for wide width shoes other than athletic shoes. She thanked me for the feedback because she could then take that to corporate and suggested talking to a sales clerk about placing an online order. I told her that she could also tell corporate that I was just going to go to a competitor instead, so they lost a sale because of their belief that women with wide feet should wear athletic shoes to the office. And all the way home I wracked my brain for the name of the website I used before.

I just ordered some dress shoes, the sandals can wait until the next payday. (I just found out I lost a bra cup size, so between the earlier bra band drop and this drop I can now fit the cutesy bras instead of the lunch lady bras. So I went a little wild in the undies shopping last night. But my bras are now cute!)

The only thing I dislike more than shoe shopping is bra shopping. I only have 2 pair of shoes and 1 bra that is falling apart and it's full of holes. I desperately need some new bras but I hate the thought of being measured for them. I also gained some bra sizes since I last brought a bra. I brought my last pair of shoes online but you can't do that with a bra.

I'm slightly off, it puts me at a cup size larger, but larger leaves a lot of room in the cup. Lane Bryant professionally measured me and same thing.

I get it. In my area (which covers parts of two states) there's only one store that even stocks close to my shoe size. :alright: I know how you feel.

I tried ordering shoes online once--despite claiming they were the right size, they weren't. So I sent an email explaining the problem, sent the shoes back, got another pair--that were not only nothing like what I had ordered, but nowhere near the size my feet are. (I will admit that with my size feet, it was the first time I'd ever put my foot in a shoe that was both too long and too wide.) In short--it was a nightmare. A nightmare I refuse to repeat any time soon. If you're having good luck with it--glad to hear it and congratulations! :party3:

I don't actually let people measure me for bras. They tend to say I'm much much bigger of a cup size than I am, so I go to the store and try them on starting with the last size I got and adjusting until I'm comfortable. Maybe you could try it? Just a suggestion.
