I don't know about the rest of you but I have a hard time finding shoes that fit. They need to be 5 1/2, wide and not too flat because I have very high arches so a ballerina flat hurts my arches. I like cute shoes but those are always too long or too narrow. Kids' shoes are impossible, they hurt everywhere, and for sneakers I buy boys' shoes as I like hightops and they don't seem to make those for women, they also need to be big enough to put my orthotics into them. I wanted to get some boat shoes but can't afford Sperry Topsiders which can get wet and never get hard even when splashed with salt water (yes, I do still go sailing.) Payless had some imitation ones but even a 6 1/2 was too small and the back was so soft they would not stay up, so those went back. I did find two pairs of sandals at Payless with a wedge about 1 1/2 inches high that fit, don't hurt and are cute but I would like to find a pair of more dressy shoes, can't wear heels anymore, getting too unsteady on my feet due to age and a bit too much weight. Yes, tiny feet with high arches are no fun, they just look cute.

For those with the same shoe shopping woes, maybe look at 6pm.com? I've gotten three pairs of shoes through them and they fit exactly right and were just like the pictures showed.

I've looked at the site and while they do have cute shoes in size 5 1/2 with just a little wedge they all come in size M and I don't think that will do. Most of them are also a bit more expensive than what I can afford although I will give them a try and see what I can come up with. Thanks, arouetta.

Zappos.com is good, too. Free returns if the shoes don't fit, lots of wide options.

I wear a very average shoe size, 8 1/2 medium. I used to wear narrow but my feet have widened with age. I only order online because 8 1/2 is such a common size that the stores are usually out of that size, lol.

LOL...I found a lovely pair that I covet, and in my size. They are only $135 less than my monthly income! SIGH...I'll keep buying the flip-flops for now.

Just went and fed Little Bit. Hekitty wanted to gripe a bit, but I stroked her, and shook the Temptations container. She'd FAR rather have a treat than fuss about another cat. Say what you will, those darned things WILL distract a cat from almost anything at all. Wish she would go for one of the healthy snacks, but I'm done sending $100 bucks worth of rejects to the animal shelter. It is what it is, as much as I hate that saying. OH...I may have found assistance for the ferals here. Or, at least, I found a clearing house for feral rescues with a contact sheet, and sent them an email, explaining where I am, and why I can't afford to buy my own traps and transport ferals myself. We shall see.

:grouphug::grouphug: It's always hard with odd-sized feet.

I'm still very wary of getting shoes I haven't tried on.

You sound like RB. He has what I call the "universal foot" as in, "every shoe store I've ever been in has his size." I, on the other hand, have actually had shoe stores (even ones that advertise they specialize in odd feet) turn me away at the door telling me they have nothing in my size to even try on. So--I'll look into it.

I wish you the best of luck with both the shoe shopping and the ferals. :clover: (There was a point in time when I was able to get some dress shoes from one of the local thrift stores. You wouldn't believe the odd sizes that show up there.)

Well, yesterday (officially) RB and I went to a barbeque place for a free rack of ribs. (It's part of an annual giveaway.) He's a little miffed at me for the moment, because two hours into the wait time he was bored and wanted to go home. (To be fair, we got there four-thirty in the morning--and there were still other people there! We were fifth and sixth in line at four-thirty in the morning! The place didn't even open until eleven!) Well, part of the problem was that, despite assuring me he had, he didn't really pack anything for him to do. (I, on the other hand, brought books, coloring books, coloring pencils, and twelve different colors of yarn with which to make stars and roses for the people working this thankless task of a rib giveaway! (Even before I worked in customer service I thought that was a rotten job. Now I'm certain of it.) Anyway he was asking, right up until the party games (silly things designed to entertain an insanely bored audience) started. He got exceptionally miffed when I insisted on actually ordering things to go with my ribs. (I understand that he was bored--but come on! The last time I ate out was back in December and I don't know when I'll get another chance! Of course I loaded up on food I liked, that was picked out only for me. Okay--truth time--I also got AWM a peach cobbler, but only because their peach cobbler is amazing and I got myself one too!) Besides, I put in for yesterday and Friday off (I wanted to be first in line) back in the middle of March when the giveaway was first announced and he knows it!

Was I being unreasonable? I mean, he took off from work too to go.

tallyollyopia tallyollyopia Nope. Not selfish OR unreasonable. Sometimes the world doesn't revolve around a man, although a good many of them don't seem to get that. OH, BTW...been meaning to tell you how much I like your user name. Sometimes I say it out loud several times in a row. It just tickles me for some reason. Always makes me smile.

Okay, AWM and I were talking about hard to fit feet, and she got a lightbulb moment. She wants to go to a school to learn how to make shoes, so that she can make made-to-fit black dress shoes (because black goes with everything) for women with insanely hard to fit feet. (Like mine, like hers, like that of most of the people on this site...) So--we were thinking of starting a Kickstarter for it, but there are two problems. 1) we're not sure it's something that people would actually want to get behind, and 2), we don't know what we would offer to our kickstarter patrons. Any thoughts?

If you google "custom made women's shoes" you can see there are a lot of companies that do that already. Unfortunately I think the cost of the equipment would be extremely high. You could look at those sites and see if you can think of anything to improve on what they offer.

If she can figure out a way to do it that shows a profit without charging insanely high prices, she should go for it! And having limited colors and styles would help with that. My poor mom wore a 5 AAA...VERY short and narrow. IF she found a shoe that fit, she bought every color they had.

I wear an 8½ or 9, M, which isn't all that uncommon, but I still have problems finding decent shoes. There are two issues:
  1. I have never deformed my feet by wearing shoes with pointy toes, so I can't wear shoes with pointy toes.
  2. Most women's shoes have little to no padding on the insoles, and no room for inserted insoles.
I've been known to shop the men's department because they assume that men actually have toes and want soft insoles, but it's impossible to find appropriate dress shoes there. I don't even want heals, just flats that don't look like running shoes but fit me properly.

Fortunately, I visited PayLess the other day and they had a nice pair of black canvas shoes that fit beautifully and were on sale. I'm having a bit of trouble with the back edge digging in and wanting to cause blisters, but I'm wearing those anti-blister Band-Aids on my heals and that takes care of it. I suspect that if I wash them a time or two it may soften them up enough to take care of the problem.

Now, these aren't technically "dress shoes," but all of my actual dresses are long, so the shoes are just peeking out; this means that, as long as they don't look like running shoes, they're fine. (Many years ago I found a style of dress that looks good on me no matter what my weight is, so I bought three, in different colors and slightly different styles, and I'm still wearing them. I recently had to have them shortened, though, because I'm no longer 5'4½" tall; I'm now 5'2" -- I was starting to step on the hems. The woman who did the work for me [she has a really good sewing machine, unlike me] took patterns off of them while she was at it. :) Inferior sewing machine or not, I foresee a good deal of sewing in my immediate future.)

I did google it--and I wasn't impressed with the results. Those weren't companies offering custom made shoes; rather making odd sizes.

(I don't know how to do that @ name link.)

Segelcatt - Weird, when I just went on there and put in "5½" "W" and "Wedge" I found a lot of shoes.

Margret - I set the parameters to things like "Round toe" and "Snub toe". I can't wear pointy shoes either. The one time I did, a badly cut ingrown toenail caused a fleshy growth (in one night!) and not knowing what was going on I ended up having a doctor cut the nail out. Never again!

Mamanty1953 - I tell it to sort by "Lowest price" and I get a lot of $25-$35 choices.

I saw the orthopedic surgeon today. I don't have a broken bone, yay!!! I have a torn ligament instead, boo! The swelling seen in the MRI was around one of the ligaments holding the clavicle in place, as well as scar tissue on that ligament. The doctor talked me into another steroid shot and I'm not feeling a lot of pain but I'm trying to remember I'm hurt and trying not to move my arm in ways that normally hurt a lot. She said there would be a massive ache for a few days from all that liquid being squished into a tiny place but the ache only lasted a few hours. I'm to wait one week for the steroid shot to do its stuff and then PT two or three times a week. She also said that a common complication from this injury is arthritis, the scar tissue just wears on the cartilage edges. If that happens, these injections will become a routine part of life until I decide enough is enough and have surgery to cut away the edges of the cartilage.

There was a bit of a bad moment there, she had me do a strength test to see if there was pain and there was a lot. She had a weird look on her face, but I asked to do it again before she said something. I asked because while most of my brain said "Pain!", a little part of my brain noticed the location wasn't right. Turned out to be the elbow tendonitis, which has come back because I quit doing those exercises since it made the shoulder hurt worse.

I have an interview for a cushy office job, yay!!! But while it's an office job, it may not be a cushy one, boo! My husband's job is not entirely stable at this time so we've both been mass applying to the area we want to go back to. I've been glancing over duties and requirements and applying to anything that I think I can do and haven't been noticing business names all that much. And the place I've landed an interview at is a correctional facility (I don't know if prison or jail). Um, wow, what did I get myself into??

So after setting up an interview I decided to check out my nice clothes. Eek!!! I've been checking out slacks at Goodwill and buying when I find a really nice pair because I knew I wanted an office job again and I have four pairs that only need a bit of hemming. I also have a nice black skirt. But all my nice shirts are gone, the weight loss meant I out-shrunk them and the blazer that I just bought May 2016 is so huge I could fit another person in there. (Waste of $70.)

I went to Target and between employee discount, Cartwheel discount and red card discount I got a black blazer for roughly $25 but it's a tad too tight. It's an 18 and according to their size chart I need an 18W, which gives about a half inch more room. It'll work, but I'm going to see if the gray blazer I got at Goodwill today will work with the gray pants I have (the shades don't quite match). If so I'm going to return the black blazer and swallow the cost and order the 18W, which is roughly $36 after employee discount and red card discount. The big problem with ordering is that it will show up next week and my interview is Friday. And I have another potential interview for either Wednesday or Thursday. I did find a nice suit shell and a nice long-sleeved shirt on the clearance racks, though to be fair I knew that suit shell was there as I've been eyeing it since before it went on clearance. I'll keep both as I have to replace my nice shirts even though I only need one for the interview.

Speaking of the gray blazer from Goodwill, it fit so well it was like it was tailored for me. I kid you not, it feels and looks good and I can even button it, which I normally can't do with a blazer due to my generous hips and butt. That is one thing I'm going to be sad about moving back to Virginia, the thrift stores there don't have the standards this one has which means I have never seen quality goods like they have here. The only other thing I'm going to miss about this place is how easy it is to see a specialist. While finding a PCP has a three month waiting list no matter which practice you call, I've been able to see a psychiatrist, a cardiologist and an orthopedic surgeon within a week of calling.

Resurrecting an old topic (thread necromancy!) I tried one of those goodie boxes through the mail, Nature Box. Omg, it is so good! The costs are a tad high if you are used to Lay's potato chips and Fig Newtons, but stupid cheap for organic non-GMO, most snacks are $4-$6 a package. And the packages actually last a few days, I haven't emptied one yet, and are actually diet friendly and diabetic friendly. I'm hooked, lol. But since I am attempting to diet, I've been reading labels and wow, I never realized how many calories plain raw walnuts have, eek!

---BIG SNIP---
You type @, then you type the name. On the old site, possible selections would come up as you did so, and you could click on one at any time and it would complete it for you. Now the possible names come up as you're typing, but you still have to completely type the name, then you click on the suggestion to accept it, so that it will make a link. Much less intuitive, but workable.

I haven't had that problem yet, but it's good to know!

Pardon me; this next bit gets a little bit ranty as it's about my night. Feel free to skip--I don't want to ruin anyone's mood. Or meal. If you're eating I highly recommend you skip.

One of the nice things about working a convenience store is that I'm plugged into the gossip chain of what happens at what store so I know what is about to hit the fan because of what happened. (If anyone reading this is curious--the card cleared for all those cigarette cartons so all I got was a, "Only five from now on.") Well, it turns out that another employee at another store got arrested. I don't know the details--just the incident report. (Police officers like to gossip just as much as clerks and customers, because they're people too.) Apparently the male employee attacked () a police officer and is being charged with "assault with a deadly weapon" (although if I was an officer and attacked I would be thoroughly TO'd, so even if the weapon was one of the crappy so-called "safety" boxcutters--that aren't sharp enough to cut tape--I'd call it a deadly weapon, so I'm not putting too much on it) and while he was being searched officers found three LSD stamps and two grams of crystal meth on him. I foresee a lot of drug tests in our future. Then as I was going about my nightly chores I got to the bathroom. (I don't care what the task sheet says--there's no way anyone else cleaned it!) The men's room was so nasty, with crap--literally--everywhere. It was all over the toilet (both inside and outside), the walls, the toilet paper dispenser, the paper towel dispenser, the mirror, the condom dispenser, and the soap dispenser (which was empty). Before I cleaned that I had to clean the little stand for the toilet scrub brush because someone (and I have no idea who) decided to use it as a urinal--and while it was filled, by the looks of the floor whoever it was mostly missed. It took forever to get it all clean and thank heavens the women's room was clean because I don't think I'd have had enough time to do anything else last night if I'd had to clean them both! Well, I got everything but the floor done (and I had fresh water in the mop bucket), so that was good.

Less than an hour after I finished cleaning the bathroom (and sprucing up the other to make sure it looked nice for customers), I had a customer come in. She had been in earlier, gotten cigarettes and gas, and she came in to complain that her gas gauge was still reading zero. So, I asked the obvious question: did the gas pump? (I do not assume our pumps work.) She said she had thought the pump worked--she heard it turn on and turn back off again. Then she asked what I "recommend" she do. I told her (as politely as possible--which may not have been as polite as it should have been since it came after the bathroom) that I recommend she take the car to a mechanic because it doesn't sound like a pump problem. She drew herself up to full height (a few inches shorter than me--while in heels, I might add) and demanded to know "how dare you say there's something wrong with my car!" She then demanded her previous receipt so that she could take a picture of it and her gas gauge and inform my manager in the morning. (Both my manager and AM have been warned--I thought it was only fair.) I went through over two and a half hours of receipts to find hers and print it, but I got her out of the store. I count it as a win. So, I'm working the store and the register waiting for my relief and teacher to come in (because they were supposed to be there at five-thirty in the morning) when six o'clock--shift change comes and goes. And with six o'clock came our milkman (a new milkman--I'll get to that in a minute because they, too, like to gossip) and a customer who wanted his receipt from pump 1. (Pump 1 is one of the pumps whose printer will never work, because each station has a certain number of those to encourage the customer to go into the store and buy more stuff. Just--you know, pointing that out. It's not the clerk's fault--we have no control over it.) I asked him if he knew how much was on the receipt, and he said that was my job to find out. I explained, calmly and politely, that the pumps have a few minutes of time before they relay with the interior computers in the store. I also mentioned that, in cases like that, I have been authorized by my manager to offer a free soda or coffee to the customer in question. He said he didn't care; he just wanted his receipt. I told him that my manager has taught me how to make receipts, and he said that if he let me do that it wouldn't have the card numbers on it that he needs to get a refund for the gas from his boss at work. So, since the store was filling up with customers, I checked the computer for his receipt while occasionally assuring the milk man that I had not forgotten I still needed to check him and his inventory in. Suddenly the man shoved in front of a customer who had been waiting since the door (I was doing good at thirty seconds a customer and still managing to plus-sell). He was shaking, foaming at the mouth, and said, "You stupid git! I want my receipt!" I patiently told him that the computer still didn't have his receipt, and he slammed both hands on the counter and shouted, "So make me one, you stupid :censored:!" I patiently reminded him that I had no idea how much gas he had gotten so he gave me a number, I made him up a cash receipt for it, and sent him out of the store. The customer he had butted in front of commented that I had kept my temper remarkably well. (Personally, I'm more impressed I didn't burst out singing, "Na-na- na-na! You don't have the card numbers on that receipt!) I just smiled at him and that, thankfully, was when my AM came in and I could get off the register and take my garbage and recycling off to the appropriate dumpsters.

I couldn't go home, because I had more lead training this morning, that only my manager could do--and she was over an hour late so I was an hour behind starting the training. One of the things I had to do was go over invoices for deliveries yesterday, and I had to go over the longest one (four-hundred and eighty-six items) four times trying to balance the invoice out--and at that my manager had to go behind me to try--but it wasn't an error on my part. The incoming inventory had been scanned into the computer wrong, so we had to write a note about it before sending it off. So, how long was my workday? Slightly over eleven and a half hours. I finally clocked out, got my stuff, went to the car--and got a text message from AWM asking me to pick up her cigarettes before coming home. :frustrated:(I did, of course.) And I still have to go to the hospital and yell at them about losing my last payment on my bill!:bawling2:

tallyollyopia tallyollyopia , :alright:. It sounds like a terrible day!

BTW, if your convenience store chain were in my area and I found out that there were pumps deliberately set to not print out receipts and the register inside wouldn't be able to do it for several minutes, I would be boycotting your stores, and not just for gas. You may want to pass that on to management. They may think that they get more sales because of this, but in reality they're antagonizing the customers. (I totally agree that the one who gave you grief was way over the line, but he did have a valid reason to be angry -- just not at you. Angry people seldom make that distinction, however.)

Every once in a while I go to a gas station where I don't always get a receipt at the pump. I just walk away in disgust and look it up on my comp when I get home as this station only takes debit cards so it shows up on my comp immediately. I don't know if it's always the same pump or randomly as I avoid getting gas there
