FaBEAR FaBEAR - Big Red's been gone many years now; the sweetest, most gentle kitty I've ever known.

From an old Polaroid: Measle and Big Red (33 pounds):

I love the old school quality of the photo! I'm hoping Tiger will grow to give Big Red a run for his money! Even if not a maine coon, every ginger kitty I've seen has been a big one, probably because the majority are male!

FaBEAR FaBEAR - When @mwallace056 asked a recent question on the Breeding Forum, I actually considered reviving this thread:

All Things MAINE COON

since you (and Tiger, of course) and so many Maine Coon owners make up a large portion of the "regular posters" these days on TCS. I'd enjoy seeing interaction among you, mightyboosh mightyboosh @Shane Kent @valentine319 @MistyDawn thefiresidecat thefiresidecat @sabian and other "Coonies" comparing notes and photos, and I've no doubt that other Big Breed fanciers would as well.

Yes I thought the MC crowd here seems few and far between. I live in Ireland and I have never seen a maine coon in real life. Either they're not that common here or more likely they're all indoor cats. Another reason the vet thinks Tiger is a maine coon other than his features and personality is that he was abandoned with Maine coon sized food (giant kibble!), a vaccination cert for only indoor cat vaccine and, well a note that said he son was very allergic and she could not keep him. (he purring and remaining calm and happy while getting his check up and shots!)

So I would love to see and hear from other MC owners!

Well you asked for it...……...but wait, I was about to flood this with stuff but I'll drip feed instead. I'll start with a vid. It's been on before but what the heck.
Oliver had a spell of illness and went down to just over 17lbs but after using Hill's (God bless em) miracle food, he's back up to about 23lbs now.

Im glad Oliver is feel ing better.

Be careful with hills. We were feeding hills prescription diet based on vets instructions. I latter read it was very high in carbs and although only available thru a vet and fairly expensive was poorly rated in terms of nutritional quality.

I'll read up on that but we don't have a choice really. We tried every type of food for him but nothing was being digested properly and he had the runs all the time with whatever we tried. Now he's on Hill's his stools are as they should be and he seems happier.

Jasper, my sister's Maine Coon. I believe he's around 5 years old and weighs roughly 15 or 16 lbs. I don't know if MC's are known to be a laid back breed, but Jasper is so mellow. He goes with my sister and her husband in their motor home and just loves it. Nothing seems to stress him out for very long.

Well, I have one Maine Coon and his four half Maine Coon daughters. The mother was a tiny domestic short hair (about 5lbs), it was an accidental litter.

Wonderful looking cat family you have there! The weights are really helpful!

I wish I knew for sure Tiger's breed, but given he is 18/19 weeks, and 8lbs (and my aunt who used to be a vets nurse said he looked skinny) then we do know for sure he's gonna be a big breed!

Jasper is awesome! I do love his colouring. Tiger seems to be laid back too. I'm going on hols next week and my sister is going to mind him and I'm worried he won't settle but we socialised him when we got him by bringing him places so hoppeully he'll be ok!

That was a good idea getting Tiger used to different places early on. He probably doesn't immediately freak out when he sees the cat carrier. He'll just think he's going on an adventure.

was the siamese a normal sized kitty or a tiny one? the difference between those two are astounding! both of them gorgeous!

looking at your profile pic if your kitty isn't at least half maine coon I'd eat my hat. that's a maine coon if I ever saw one.

here is my maine coon. she's currently 12.10 pounds (and that is pretty skinny for her. we've been trying to get her to gain some weight back. for awhile she was 11 pounds,
but in her younger years touched 15.10 pounds. she lost weight. she also has digestive/allergy issues. we think thought... turkey was to blame but we're not sure of that. she seems to have ibs/allergy something like that. she's also very very finicky about what she will eat or won't eat. it must be pate. no chunky shredded ect. it can't be fresh food that is identifable as a protein source. (seriously she'd die if she were in the wild or lost lol) she also does what we call the dairy explosion. if either of us have a dairy product. cheese, something with cream ect, she will get up and be super demanding for some. so you give her a little. 99 percent of the time she doesn't even lick it. she smells it and goes ERHMAHGERD DAIRY!!!! and does a run away from you at high speed lol. honestly not entirely sure what to make of that behavior. it smells good and then it doesn't? even the smell is sensation overload and she can't handle it? lol"
From these pics you can get an idea of her preferred posture. there must be a dangle paw! lol. she also does what we call the stretchy paw and we've come to understand it means want. that want can be various things from food outside time to lap time. she reaches one paw out towards you and opens her toes in a kneading motion in the air at you.
