I"m starting a thread on this because I'm a bit at a loss on what is going on with my 1 year old female kitty. She keeps getting this 'rash' on her back leg (one side), and she's started scooting.
She developed a rash like area on her back leg last December. The first time to see the vet for this, she received a steroid shot. She did not do well with the shot, but it seemed to clear up the rash. The rash came back about 2 months later. We took her to a different vet about early April and this vet thought it was a skin infection and gave my cat antibiotics. The rash seemed to clear up after 2 weeks of antibiotics. Shortly after we finished antibiotics, she developed very soft stool and started scooting. Now, it's late June and the rash is back, and she's still scooting.
During the time after the second vet and after she finished 2 weeks of antibiotics in late April, she started scooting and having very soft stool. Long story short, I switched her to grain free, and it helped her stool tremendously, but she is still scooting. Now, this rash is back for the third time!
The 'rash' doesn't seem to bother her. It is no where else that I can find. It comes back at the same spot. She doesn't try to lick it or scratch at it. The skin feels thickened. My other cat seems fine so it's probably not contagious.
The scooting is often awhile after she's used the bathroom. She scoots about once every other day. It's always on soft surface like bedsheets. There's enough to usually make a mark. Gross! I've done tons of laundry. I'm almost hoping that they will find a cause for the scooting and it's not just a bad habit!!!
I included a picture of the skin rash. I have no clue what it is causing it. I'm guessing the vet will work her up for the typical causes of scooting (worms, anal glands). I'll try to update after her vet appointment.
