Had a consultation with Dr. E (our vet). She is confused as well. He is too young for the malignant cancer, he is just a baby.
She is hopeful that we can manage his skin tumors by finding the right combination of treatments. First step is to get the Mast Cell tumors under control while keeping them from have bacterial issues. So anti-itch shampoo baths once or twice a week combined with LimePlus dips every 7 days. (Those dips sound fun, not.) Benadryl spray rubbed onto his skin once or twice a day. Oral anti-histamine and Presidone, longer term. A full two weeks at twice a day, then two weeks once a day and finishing with once every 48 hours. With checks between and ready to make adjustments.
The hope is: with getting the Mast Cell tumors gone and he doesn't show other symptoms we may be able to manage his condition with daily doses of anti-histamine. With managing he may live a longer, happy, quality life.
Prayers are greatly appreciated!
We made the hard decision to assist Dasher over the Rainbow Bridge. His Mast Cell tumors exploded all over his poor body, including around his eyes. Nothing we were doing was making any difference in slowing the progression.
So many people are very confused by his condition. Two vets and many people in cat rescue for years have never seen anything like this in a kitten so young.
All 11 kittens have been adopted!! Including 1 by us!
This was a back and heart breaking experience. But so amazingly heart warming and rewarding at the same time. So I decided to do it again! More fosters in the future for me.
