I would try to block all the places that wouldn't be accessible to you. Cats often wait until the last minute to actually use the nest instinctively.

You are doing a great job with your kitty!

foxxycat foxxycat Great! She is really big now, and the kittens seem to be having a party in her stomach! She is due Sunday! I'm really nervous, even though I know most cats handle birth fine on their own. Just hoping I'm there when it happens:worship:

Also, can you do flea treatments on a pregnant cat? We were going to try to reduce the fleas in the household before the kittens come. If we can't we will just do everybody else and do our best to wash all sheets and carpets.

Yes, Advantage II is safe and works. You may want to buy a carpet flea spray as well as vacuuming and washing all linens in hot water. If you're infested, doing all of this 2 times and 2 weeks apart will usually eradicate the outbreak.

Do cats tend to give birth on their due date like rabbits, or are the normally a little late? Just wondering

No, it's rare for a cat to deliver on the due date. It's usually close though.

But the reason may be that most people don't know exactly when the cat mated, and vets are guess-timating too. :)

We got home very late last night, to find Rory with 4 kittens. When we got to her she was sitting on them and had no idea what to do. We moved her to the nest and got them nursing. There are 3 blacks and one that appears to be tortoiseshell. I weighed them this morning, but I don't know how accurate my scale is.
#1-3oz-black kitten chest+tummy white
#2-3.5oz-black kitten white paws + tummy
#3-3.5oz-black kitten all black
#4-3.5oz-tortoiseshell
Are these weights fine? Sorry it's not in grams. All of them seem to be happy, and have full tummies.

Congratulations! ;)

Yes, their birth weights are excellent!

Continue to weigh them. Grams work best to chart daily gains. This lets us know if they are getting enough.

Feed mom lots of wet food!

Is it normal for her to growl at them when they meow? It's normally just when she eats though, so it could be that.

It sounds like she is just figuring things out. Most cats need about 48 hours to settle in as new moms. But no, most moms don't growl at their newborns.

ok, will wait to see what happens. It is very hard to tell, but I think the blacks are all boys and the other one is a girl. But I won't know for sure until they are older.

The tortoiseshell will be a female.

The black ones could be either. It's much easier to tell in a few weeks!
