Corn gluten was an issue ONLY in SOUTH AFRICA .... I would say call SD and ask where the orgin of it was ... I know Nutro caim out and stated there was USA grown

Nutro was one of many brands of food involved in the pet food recall. The list is located here: http://itchmo.com/recalled-pet-food-...nd-other-pets/

Dear Kitkat84:

This is my personal opinion/experience only, not an expert's or a scientist's or anything. We've been very happy with Nutro canned and dry foods for many years; as you can see, it seems to grow and maintain healthy, happy cats! I have never bought the pouch varieties which were mainly the recalled ones; to my knowledge, all of the varieties I have always bought are, and have always been, completely safe. What happened with the recall could happen with any food as long as controls and inspections are lax and greedy, dishonest people live on this earth. The sources of contaminants were not limited to one company or nation, as far as I know -- and the truth is, we will probably never know the true extent or origins of all of them. Just like in human consumer products, "you pays your money and you takes your chances", unfortunately. I trust Nutro and I have never stopped using it.
Hope this helps.

I think that there are sufficient numbers of people - informed, aware, "in tune" with their furkids (sufficiently observant of their behaviour patterns/health) who are reporting illness that appears to be food-related that, a reasonable person could conclude that there are ongoing issues of contaminants in petfood.

Read some of those discussions/reports on Itchmo http://itchmoforums.com/

When pet food companies refuse to state categorically where foods are manufactured, the origen of ingredients, the types of testing they "do", the results of those tests........then, one just has to wonder. Part of that wondering MUST be: if there are no problems, WHY ARE THESE COMPANIES NOT RESPONDING?

If there were no problems, wouldn't it be better for their businesses to ADVERTISE THIS FACT CLEARLY AND PUBLISH THE PROOF???????

The pet food industry has broken the trust.....the onus now is on them to prove the products are safe.

Just like in human consumer products, "you pays your money and you takes your chances", unfortunately.
I keep my ear to the ground, my eyes wide open, and do my research before I pays my money. I want to reduce, as far as I can, the chance that a decision on my part will harm those entrusted to me.

Informed decision making is what our kids deserve...keep your head in the sand and they may very well suffer.

Dear Kitkat84: I haven't seen the dry dog food complaint; and as it doesn't have anything to do with wet cat food or dry cat food, I wouldn't let it limit my choices. That's just me. As I said yesterday, we're longtime and loyal Nutro fans, and nothing I've seen so far makes me change that. This could happen in any company, anywhere, at any time. You may remember the contaminated spinach scare, and farther back, the Tylenol scare? This stuff does go on, for many reasons. We love Nutro. It grows very healthy, happy cats.

Same subject as previous poster, different news source (dog food and human food has botulism). Does this mean that the same company produces human and dog food in the same plant?

If so, good for the dogs, not so good for us humans. Makes me wonder if we humans also get the same ingredients that the dogs do.
this particular company use s a "human only" plant for just those cans as they supposedly are fine for humans to eat...

Most plants do multiple foods or food types

I found out a company s dog biscuits were made by and at a well known human cookie plant...yummmy

...and not to go off on a tangent, but rumor had it that the Jack-in-the-Box junk food restaurant chain was owned by a company that also made dog food, so one time I asked an employee, who confirmed it. Hmmm!

Aw crap, I just bought about 12 cans of Nutro Max Cat Gourmet Classics Kitten wet food (Chicken & Liver Formula)...

According to the Nutro website, this product has NOT been added to the list of recalled items, but how worried should I be?! Wouldn't they have stopped selling these cans if they were concerned AT ALL?

ugh...
