Thank you so much. Just worried that Leon is giving him mixed signals. One minute playing with him or being fine next being angry and telling him to back off.
Don't think they will be the type of cats who sleep together, Leon being a British short hair is not a snuggly or a lap cat.

Up date. Now 3 weeks in, Leon and Bertie seem to be a little bit better. They play together a bit each day, chasing and play fighting. They sniff each other and do their own thing. Leon does still tend to howl and hiss when he's had enough of playing or if the kitten annoys him when he is doing something. So I'm hoping things will continue to improve as Bertie gets older. At the moment he just does seem to understand when to back off and give Leon some space.
We still have them sleeping in separate rooms at night. Is this the right thing to do?
I just hope we can reach a point were we get through the day without yowling.

That all sounds pretty good. Maybe spend a bit more time playing with Bertie to tire him out, particularly when he still wants to play, and Leon has had enough.

And maybe try letting them in the same room at night on a weekend, or when you won't mind if your sleep is disturbed by any feline interactions.
