Introducing Betty White

The last time Betty was in the office for her last pre-dental blood check, that exam was performed by the doc I like and prefer. It was also an in-office visit. I saw my first non-ER/non-specialist vet in person since 2020. Then we got Betty on the other doc’s schedule for earlier this month because my preferred doc didn’t have the earlier opening. Then happened. And I ended up on preferred doc’s schedule after all. But yeah. I’m expecting extractions with this dental. And the only thing that’s keeping me from freaking out about it is the relationship and trust I’ve built with both docs over the course of the year—a relationship and trust that new doc doesn’t have. Yet.

It's top priority and I wouldn't settle for anything less.

10.64 on 129 daily calories. Down a bit from 10.72 and 138 average daily calories last week. I chalk some of that up to running out of the poop pills for a couple of days. And some of it to being on vacation and thus at the tap room every afternoon. But mostly she’s just not finishing overnight anymore. I think maybe she’s preferring sleep to snacking. Especially as I turn the heat off at 9 and the apartment slowly gets cold over the course of the night. Good for sleeping. But not so much for wanting to get up to eat or pee. In any case, doc wanted her to lose a little weight. Maybe we finally know that the 130-140 range is her target point. Above it she’ll gain and below it she’ll lose weight.

Of course, as I’ve mentioned before, I have weighed one of her poops. It came out to approximately 0.05 lbs. In other words, her weight loss from last week is still within a poop and a half margin of error.

It’s all good data though.

Ahhh, had a feeling the English Sparrow would eventually appear! Brought over by someone who liked Shakespeare. They’re probably digging out the highly nutritional sunflower seeds, if there are some in the mix.

Looks like I figured out how to cut through her sniff and snubs. I mean besides carpet morsels. I take a small amount of A/D (about as much as it would take to coat one or two more capsules) and smear that on the leading edge of her food. It gives her an appealing entry point. And often once she gets started….

Oh my cat! She just ate breakfast in one go! She hasn’t done this in furrever! Not since high dose of steroids. Or high dose of gabapentin. But she’s on the outer edge of her last dose. She also finished overnight portion with hours to spare. Maybe the poop pills have finally filled in the gap from last week?

Of course, come dinner, this A/D trick won’t work. Because cats!

In other news, I wore a Betty bib last night. Her idea. It was very sweet. But it was also more endearing with an 8 pound Krista vs an almost 11 pound furry bowling ball. Ooof!

Well, in my world, anyway, you take what you get and you are grateful for it. ANY cattage is to be grateful for. Because, you're right, CATS.

Cat-based affection is hardly a rare occurrence here. Betty is ALWAYS down to clown. She loves a good scratch or rubdown of any kind, at any time. Booty, belly, chin, chest: she loves it all! And she can never get enough. I call her a SHEdonist. Because pronouns.

I am guessing she finally got her eating pants back from the cleaners and tailored too. They seem to be fitting better than ever.

I just put down a 40 gram lunch serving at 11:30. When I finished washing the dishes, I came out to this. I estimate that’s no more than 10 grams left. This remainder is going to have to last her until 5.

And to think I was worrying about her uptake and intake last week.

I think she has just been soldering through cases she didn’t enjoy. Since we started into this new case, she’s been finishing her plates. Almost in one go. The A/D starter smear is not needed. For now. So I guess I’ll be labeling where and when I got a case as I bring them home now. And thank you Betty for eating through the cases you were less crazy about anyway.

She doesn’t seem to have a limit. She does have a rotation. That is that she will sit up and give me a face bump, then she may give me the elevator booty before rolling back over for the big stretch and belly rub again. And then she may walk to the nearest surface that she can rub her face against. But that doesn’t mean I should stop. She’ll give me a look if I do. But rather I think she’s doubling down. “You keep scratching that spot there. I’ll take care of the cheeks and chin.” Such a shedonist! I don’t kink shame her. She wants what she wants.

I thought Elvis didn't either--until fairly recently, when he proved to me that he does. So I try to know when to say when.
...(sigh) and here I was going to ask for Betty's number or site so I could ask her if she repairs silver and gold jewelry.

I like that in the middle of our fuss sessions while I’m waiting on the stove timer, Betty wil get up and head to her plate. She’s finally choosing food over fuss. Like a cat should.
