Google Jaguarundi. The gray ones kind of look like big domestic cats. I hope he's not a wildcat.

Well yeah, I would never shoot any type of cat. I love big gray boy kitties. I want a gray British Shorthair someday.

oh dear. i may have a jaguarmundi.
big cat looks much more like that then the first pic.
i assumed he was domestic because of the ears.
but, the jaguarmundi has the ears of a house cat.

well, i'll feed it, but i'm not sure i should lie down in his presence.
yeah, i'll go armed, endangered or not.
this thing is big enow to really hurt you.
drifter could scratch n claw me, but not really hurt me.
this thing could put me in the hospital.

presumably, it won't stay around just for hand outs if he's a wild cat.
kittens will be interesting.
things i've read about half breed dogs are not very good.
kittens could end up more dangerous than the parent.
i'm no longer sure what to do.
if they are born in the house, they will want to come in sometimes.
if they are half wildcat, that is not very smart.

That's so cool, because they are rare. But the sightings have all been in your area. Hopefully they don't eat cats, it says mice and rabbits. Just make a lot of noise if he scares you, that's what they say to do if you see coyote or wolf.

orange, the bob ct pics you posted didn't have long n pointy ears.
i guess big cat could be a bob cat, because they are also in this area n not rare.
i will get a pic if he keeps on eating here.
what worked with drifter should work with him.
my only concern is the size of possible kittens.
drifter is too small to get huge babies thru her birth canal.
the reason i wanted to strap drifter to a board is so i can help.
see, with a cow, you get a rope over her head, n another on a hind leg.
then, you knock her over.
once she can't move, you reach up inside n grab the little hooves n pull. then, you get ropes around the calf's legs n pull n pull..
this works, because i have done it, saving an expensive cow n expensive calf.
the cow had walked around all day with one baby hoof sticking out her rear.
this was the first calf for that heffer n she just couldn't get the baby out.
i saved 2 lives n could do the same for drifter if i had her strapped down.

No, Susie!!!! You can't help a cat give birth to kittens the same way you do with cows!!! C'mon now. Stop thinking about strapping Drifter to a plank. You're likely to get a seriously deep bite wound if you try that.

You'd only see white on a bobcat on its belly, under its tail and on its face. They grow anywhere from 11 to 30 pounds, so it would be easy to mistake a small bobcat for a regular cat. The only strange thing would be that bobcats almost never come out during the day...and you said that Shrek walked right up to your window? Makes me think maybe it is just a large DSH cat.

if drifter is in trouble, i'll do what i must to help.
this is ranch country. we are supposed to deal with difficult births without a vet.
big cat may well be a mutant domestic.
all i know for sure is he's much much bigger than what i think of as a big kitty.
it has occurred to me that drifter might be safe from coyotes because of him.
coyotes are fierce, but they know if they get hurt bad, even winning a fight, they won't be able to hunt, so death will come.
big cat isn't as tall as a coyote, but not much different in body mass.

I understand you have a lot of experience with animals, but cats are unique little creatures. I even had a vet once tell me that animal medicine now recognizes that "cats are not small dogs" and must be treated differently. And they certainly are not miniature cows!!!! So, please, please, please erase from your mind the idea of strapping Drifter to a plank.

If Drifter is pregnant, and if she was to run into trouble giving birth, and if you were absolutely unable to get her to a vet, log onto this site and post in the Pregnant Cats and Kitten Care and one of the site experts would reply and offer advice.

But long before Drifter's possible due date, maybe put aside some emergency money, and find the location of the nearest vet, just to be prepared. And maybe check out some "cats giving birth" videos on Youtube.

oh, i'm not looking forward to helping her birth.
perhaps a straight jacket could be fashioned.
if i'm super lucky, drifter isn't preg.
if i'm just middling lucky, the kittens will be normal size n she can take care of herself.
i don't even know how much the size is determined by the sire.

thanks for the tip, ruby. i'll check those sites.

I know you're in ranch country. My parents, and father's parents and many other relatives were raised in the High Plains, SE New Mexico. I know where you're coming from. No matter how independent you are and how much you want to "do it your way", you do not have cat experience. If on no other subject, you're going to have to trust me (us) on this one: strapping a cat to a board for any reason is a very, very bad idea.

If Drifter is pregnant, I agree with rubysmama...come on here and get help in the Pregnant Cats and Kitten Care section. There are a few people here who have helped countless people with problem-births and with taking care of sick kittens.
